I quit my job in part because my boss bitched me out for taking a moment to finish a conversation with my friend outside before coming in, since I was fifteen minutes early. Mind you this was shortly after he started slashing any sort of overtime and only paid people strictly for the hours they were supposed to be there, ignoring any time they spent before or after the shift. So he wanted me to give him 15 minutes of completely unpaid labour, and got pissy when I refused. Then, he whined and got pissy when I quit before the busy season, where he would give employees a bonus of 20 bucks a day instead of overtime. Where these fucking porkers get the nerve is beyond me.

Who can honestly say Social Democrats and Liberals aren't left wing? It makes as much sense as a Holla Forumsfag claiming that mainstream Republicans aren't right wing because they don't support their crackpot racial theories.

Also I had a wider point that most political movements have smug people in them, both left and right, extremists and centrists. If you're utterly convinced you're right and you're not willing to entertain doubt about your own beliefs, there's a good chance you'll end up smug. Just look at imageboard culture, it tends to create incredibly smug people.

The only coherent political spectrum possible is one based on economic policy, and "left" in that sense has always meant critical of the current system while "right" has meant a desire to preserve and entrench the current system. The current system we live under is neoliberal capitalism. If you really want to push it, social democrats can be called "left wing" in a sense because they're minimally critical of capitalism (but only to the extent that they want to "fix" it and control the bad outcomes through redistribution and social programs), but your average liberal is absolutely not left wing.
