I tried messing around with the flags on a different board as a test. Country flags seem to work fine, but trying to enable "Holla Forums-style" flags refuses to save as a setting.

As others have pointed out, Codemonkey probably just broke something and this will likely be restored soon-ish.

Part of the appeal here is that this board has a sense of humor - something lacking in a lot of current "leftist" groups. The flags are part of our board culture.

I found the kneejerking useful - that way I didn't have to get very far into a discussion before a poster reacted and accused me of being an uppity nigger, and I could just disregard their opinion quickly.

Whilst this is obviously just codemonkey fucking something up, I definitely think it's a decent time to potentially trial non-flagposting because as other people have pointed out oftentimes it encourages shitposting and dismissive attitudes between posters, plus Holla Forums seems to be posting a lot of sectarian bait threads where they attempt to play off one tendency against the other beyond the usual friendly banter

that aside, my one big concern with removing flags temporarily is that it might encourage more tripfags, and it's the sort of annoying flagposters that go on to be annoying trips
