Lysenkoism

Hey Holla Forums what are your thoughts on Lysenkoism? Is the idea of natural co-operation really that absurd?

isn't this the guy who denied evolution?

He never denied evolution.

Isn't this just mutual aid? In which case no, not even Darwin denied its existence.

Yongsheng Liu. Lysenko's Contributions to Biology and His Tragedies
imichurin.narod.ru/liu2004.htm

he never denied evolution. He denied mendalian inheritence and thought you could turn barely into wheat. got 3 gorrilion biologists shoah'd for no good reason

The best I have to say about him is that vernalization worked but he thought it'd become inheritable (while it only affects fenotype)
but overall he was pretty shitty
here, have a screenshot of a turbo tankie unironically defending him

...

Oh, the irony! At least his works on Vavilov centers and mimicry were eventually recognized.

...

It was bullshit (and this is undeniable)
One of the greatest errors by the Soviets was to uphold him (even Stalin did, although he changed his mind afterwards).
But I think this has to be analyzed in the historical context.
People were starving in Ukraine, Souther Russia, Kazahstan…..And the Soviets were desesperate to produce more grain.
Lysenkos idea (probablt bu pure chance) actually sohwed an increase in grain production at the start, so they supported it(in the classical ultrapragmatism of the bolsheviks)
Still it was a huge error, and a black stain in the otherwise good recall of the USSR as the bastion of science that they were trying to create.

Thing is, Gunnar's actually posting the truth and it has been been shown that environmental stress does feed back into which genes get activated in an organisms progeny. So in that regard, Lysenko was correct. The problem is that Lysenko massively over-estimated the effect; he assumed if you started amputating limbs, this would feed into the progeny of the organism, which is patent bullshit and led to all the problems.

As an addendum, the issue with all those biologists being sent to happy camp is a case study in why free speech is important and anyone using the frozen fruit meme needs a vigorous beating.

The idea that the capitalists were intentionally holding back grain development was not terribly unsurprising, especially given that they'd been dealing with the ukranian capitalists who were doing just that. But it was pretty obvious that they rushed into what should have been a purely experimental set of tests. It looks ridiculous from now but analyzed in historical context it's not as insane as it sounds.

???

"muh freeze peach"

Freeze peach is such an incoherent concept that it's effectively impossible for any human to take it seriously. Case in point: Yourself. In your own post you advocate violence against anyone who sufficiently contradicts your worldview.

Whether you're joking or not in this particular case is irrelevant. Everybody on the planet agrees some people's ideas are just to dangerous to be let free.

one of my favourite tankies tbh

You are not worth speaking to, so all I shall do is point out your reddit spacing.

...

Yes, I made a spacing shitpost to someone worthless. What of it?

Not the smartest, are you?

Of all the retarded things to come out of "real socialism", this was arguably the one that came second closest to being literally retarded, as a distant second to the Great Leap Forward, which was in part inspired by it.

Oh god so does this mean the Jews were right and holocaust suffering is passed down genetically?

Not genetically, no. The genes themselves doesn't change.
High level of stress can have an impact on gene expression and that epigenetic effect can carry on to the next generation.
It's important to be as accurate as possible when talking about scientific topics.

Have read of this: naturalhistorymag.com/features/142195/beyond-dna-epigenetics

Isn't it just a case of po-tay-to po-tah-to?

Or maybe it's another mechanism altogether. Morphogenetic field, anyone?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epigenetics
That's a field fairly large but i can't really expand on it cuz i'm no biologist.

I don't get this reference, is it an English related thing?

No, it's not just a different way of saying the same thing. As an analogy: changing the rendering settings in a video game does not alter the data files of the character models but you still see changes in their appearance in the game.

The funny part is that the Nazi is right in this case. The guy also denied Darwinian evolution in favor of Lamarckianism. Stop being disingenuous and advocating pseudoscience because you want to have a full tankie LARP suite.

Why are you defending a nazi?

Because he's correct in this instance. He's not automatically wrong on everything if he's a Nazi. If he says "2+2=4", will you disagree because he's a Nazi? Science is science, math is math.

Different ways to say the same thing. I mean you said the genes don't change but something changes thanks to epigenetics, which is like saying genes do change in a way.

I get what you're saying, but the thing is, information is being carried on by the epigenetic effect. Where is that information stored?

A Marxist philosophical lecture on Lysenko. Very good imo.

Outside of the base pair sequence that makes up an organisms DNA. Genes are each part of that base pair sequence. The wikipedia article you were shown earlier has an image showing modification to the ribose chain encasing the base pairs.
