What I wrote in another thread: There are people who will say that Marxism-Leninism is the specific ideology of the USSR after Lenin's death ("Stalinism") and that there is a non-ML Leninism. (I'm pretty sure some trots would call themselves a kind of Leninist but not ML's.)

You know a lot of Holla Forums still thinks that Italian and Dutch-German left communism were super different, but both were Leninists. It's just that in the mid-'30s, a specific faction of left communism in Germany went a different way (Hamburg split of the KAPD, most notably) and that's what became "council communism", which rejected Leninism. Pannekoek for example dismissed Lenin only after things like Brest-Livotsk, which is what ignited the whole anti-Bolshevik sentiment and disillusioned some of them in Leninism. The same thing happened in Italy, where the "Bordigist" and "Damenist" factions arised which were perhaps less radically non-Leninist than German councilism, but still rejected a lot of traditional Leninist notions. It's gotten to the point where today, in left communist/ultra theory "councilist" and "Bordigist" are pejoratives for these alternative persuasions gone mad and little more than theoretical quetism. Bordiga, Pannekoek, Damen, etc. are all still appreciated in them, though, as well as Marx, Engels, Lenin, etc. of course, in these modern leftcom/ultra persuasions, but those dogmatic Bordigist and councilist currents are seen as worthless and dead.
