Plus there's a bit of a stigma attached to telling people you have a lot of food, water, tools, guns, crops, a place to escape to, etc. - because before there's a crisis they'll think you're a crazy doomsday prepper getting ready for a zombie apocalypse or for 'the end times', but if shit does turn bad then they'll know someone to come to for shelter, handouts, and safety.
