Miami comrade here, things are fine, people are memeing about running like Naruto in Cat 5 winds on Facebook, gas lines are long but orderly, we're pretty well prepared. I was able to get two large storage containers full of canned goods and Parmalat milk and 10 gallons of water, plus two bags of dog food for my dog. Gun is secured with plenty of hollowpoint food just in case looters come to my house. Haven't seen or heard of any cases of price gouging just yet and people are evacuating Zones A and B in Miami-Dade like they're supposed to.

People still remember the devastation of Andrew back in 1992, and this storm is stronger than that, and I think slower moving too so it'll linger longer. I expect total disaster, Miami Beach and the rest of the coast to become Atlantis.

I'm not gonna attack the system Cuba has set up for hurricanes because I'm sure it works, but don't blatantly lie either. No matter how great your system is expect a certain amount of loss of life, especially with a force as great as a hurricane.

My conservative contemporaries are far more inclined to believe in government weather manipulation and/or divine intervention than natural causes. So I'd say never.

There are nuclear plants in the path of Irma, btw. Remember the chemical plants in Houston? Well American nuclear plants keep nuclear waste on-site, meaning if the wrong parts of the facilities get breached, we're talking about highly radioactive material getting caught up in hurricane winds. And that's assuming the plant is shutdown so that a meltdown isn't in the cards.

I know you're joking, but it is true.
Not really in the weather control sense, but the nations (esp. Burgerstan) most responsible for global warming have the best resources to save themselves. Or at least to save their bourgeois, petit-bourgeois, and labor aristocracy.
Its like one of thowe games (fpr example, Magic) where ypu have strategies that rely on fucking up the whole board and covering your own ass enough that everyone else dies before you.
