There's no such thing as natural hierarchy. Yes there are natural differences, but think about which ones are the main responsible for shaping your social status and you'll realise that they all relate to the mutable cultural values, which in turn relates to the material conditions of a society.

If you have a militarist society, that depends on territorial expansion and conquest, you need a militaristic people with strong men and a warriorlike tradition, and weak faggots like you and me are the bottom of the barrel. But eventually these people would settle, develop cultural institutions, dedicate themselves to trade, art and science and other fag shit, and you have a whole different social norm arising from it. A new type of person becomes the ideal, while the brute who loves combat is just the low-class scum.

Modern capitalism has the worst of all worlds combined. It's utterly militaristic because it needs constant wars, it's utterly competitive, because the job market itself is designed to make you constantly try to outdo each other (and don't you love being a loser in those job interviews?), it has no place for social ties and communities that don't serve an utilitarian purpose, it turns all social interactions into a battle for social distinction, etc. Everything becomes a constant competition, a constant battle for people to prove they're better than others, and we're already socialized into this as soon as we step into our first classroom. There's always a thousand different bullshit standards and norms you have to attend. That accentuates the divide between losers and successful people, and the latter gain access to a lot more in life.

So we may never have complete egalitarianism, but the absurd discrepancies in quality of life and happiness we have today is a result of our economic system.
