Lately I've been reading alot about Franco and his regime in Spain.
While he looks like a typical fascist dictator at first glance, I've come to notice that he focused alot on education, social equality of women, faire loans and overall suported the proletarians strugle against the bourgeoisie.

What's your opinion on him ?

Was Franco /ourguy/ ?

Then what makes him a fascist?

so what is the "natural" interest rate for you?

Class collaboration isn't supporting the proletariat. It's actually the opposite.

Out of all Fascist rulers, the only one who didn't lead his country to ruin was Franco. Still, all that he amounted for was America's bitch.

Franco wasn't a fascist, he was a traditional conservative autocrat relying mostly on the military, the church, monarchists and landowners as relays of power. He co-opted the authentically fascist Falangists by integrating them in his single-party rule.

By handing it over to the native Catholic clergy?

By outlawing divorce and contraception?

That's so sweet of finance capital!

Unadulterated bullshit. The civil war was caused by a right-wing Catholic military coup against the left-wing republican government of the Frente Popular, and the Nationalist faction was backed by landowners and businessmen during the war. The bourgeoisie and petite-bourgeoisie were the support base of Franco's dictatorship. Under Franco, unions were banned and strikes were outlawed. Government-sponsored psychiatrist Antonio Vallejo-Nájera even tried to find a "red gene" to medically "stamp out" Marxism from the population. The White Terror (i.e. anti-socialist) death squads were so brutal and ruthless they shocked even Himmler himself.

This is "hello fellow leftists" brought to a whole new level. Fuck off.

I have a lot of relatives who lived under Franco, including my own mother. The only reason it was any decent compared to Germany and Italy was because Spain didn't go to war, besides that it was meh. My whole spanish family is pro-republic btw :)

This.
It blows my mind how people can talk about the spanish civil war and posterior francoist dictatorship around here without even reading some wikipedia. The other day there was a guy saying that thr poum was really franco's fifth column lmao.

It was decent when spain opened itself to europe and the US, the autarchy period was very bad, with a lot of misery. And even then there wasn't freedom of expression, every publication had to go through censorship.

The only decent guys on the other side of the civil war were the original national syndicalists who got purged by Franco

They weren't "purged", they were co-opted and integrated into his rule — not unlike the Iron Guard under Antonescu's military dictatorship in Romania, though those eventually rebelled. Sure, some Falangists whined about it but they never actually took a stand. Their significance eventually waned in the '60s during the so-called Spanish Miracle.

Anyway, they weren't "decent". They were petit-bourgeois fascist scumbags who pushed for totalitarian nationalism and class collaboration. Fuck them.

...

christ, reading about this guy makes my stomach churn

*a lot

And no, not our guy.

What is this from?

Franco rolled back every advance towards women's rights made under the republic.

The workers of Spain hated the Nationalists. In fact, Spain was one of the few countries where politics split almost perfectly down class lines. As a rule, proletarians and peasants supported the republic, bourgeois and landlords supported the insurgents. When the insurgents took a town it was common practice to shoot a few dozen workers at random to show them who was boss. One Nationalist general estimated they would have to exterminate 1/3 of the rural proletariat. Franco was quite possibly the most anti-worker dictator in Europe.

Not to mention he was an opportunistic, scheming coward. He didn't even joining in the military riding until it seemed likely to succeed. During WWII, he funneled raw materials to the Axis and praised them endlessly in the state press, while refusing to commit himself, only to do a 180 and fall on the Allies mercy as soon as the war turned.

At least men like Primo de Rivera and Mola had some damn convictions.

Fuck Franco, spineless sniveling manlet piece of shit.

No the Basques are.

its bait gentlemen… お前はもう死んでいる…

I will destroy FET y de las JONS.

Capitão Falcão (Captain Falcon). He's a superhero from Salazar's Portugal, who defends the nation against the ever-present threat of Communism.

Is the film any good? Looks like good satire to me.

I like it. The concept is pretty unique and it's quite funny.

Sounds like nationalist succdem trash. Read Rafiq
