Low Wage Hellholes

are you compelled by economic necessity to take the best shitty mcjob you can get or does this belie a lack of creativity/moxie/bootstraps.

when do people in these career paths become the economic parallel of the battered woman who won't leave her abusive partner? i tend to believe that everyone has a chance at some point to "get out", although it may present itself sooner for some than for others.

Based on fucking what?

my own life experiences, observation, but, most importantly, Muh Feels.

there's always an angle, free will is overrated, but we have some.

People are creatures of habit, so it can happen. Some people just can't find other work or get an interview in something else. Depends on where you're living and what your prospects are like tbh.

Speaking from my own feels and experiences working with and being around low wage workers, they do have dreams. The young ones at least

As they (I guess I'm part of them) grow older thier dreams fade away and they learn to tolerate it and not expect anything more

educate people on how bootstraps is a myth and there is a reason why people in other countries get paid more for doing less work/have less income inequality > tax the rich even more > build a government of the proletariat for the proletariat > use sed government to seize the means of production for the benefit of the worker and not the elite/bourgouise > use reasources to build full automation of workplaces > fully automated luxury communism where no one has to work slave labor and everyones "rich"

its a simple process you fucking idiots, go get it done

Get out and go where?

Low wage hellholes are all there are now. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't.

I've worked as a cashier at Burger King in America before. It paid $7.25 a hour not $9.

I wonder. I mean, I can understand being stuck in a string of dead-end jobs, sometimes there's just nothing else available. Maybe family and friends are tight-knit, and you're unlikely to find better prospects elsewhere.

But what about somebody in a real shithole, inner city slums like Watts L.A., or Jamaica N.Y.C.? Maybe not everybody fits this description, but there's hundreds of thousands of people who grew up squirming inside the feuds of murderous gangs that personally hate them, broken families, no jobs, perpetually on welfare, renting apartments and sporadically homeless, stuck with kids and unmarried, see them going down the same path you did.

Why would any of those people not just pick up stakes and LEAVE.

funny fact:

Burger King worker Poland

$3 an hour (after increasing minimal wage by 200% by new conservative government last year)
NO vacation at all
NO pension plan
don't neet to chose between paying rent or food because he doesn't have enough money for neither

I live in shittiest place in Europe ;_;

Why aren't things cheaper in Poland?

the 'hard economic facts' about the modern market are just that spending immediately and irrationally takes precedent over saving for the future. There is no interest rate right now and there are several debt bubbles ready to collapse. You are supposed to be frivolent.

no one will ever be a success and make it with all the talent in the world through media like youtube, twitch, or instagram. only a certain percent does get successful as a carrot on a stick and even they have no certainty, benefits, and they have to sing for their supper every night.

WITH WHAT MONEY? Do you not understand what living paycheck to paycheck means?

You deserve this for ruining the 20th century. The Polish nation must be destroyed when the time is right

Drive, buy a bus ticket, just GTFO. There are countless nicer places around the country they can be penniless and jobless.

people like this don't necessarily deserve their sorry demise, but are at least implicated in it.

the worst are the ones who get promoted to manager, then the entirety of their sorry lives are that fucking job.

I did. i took a chance and left. short term job, no guarantee of somewhere to stay. why don't other people leave?

i guess what i'm wondering is, are you even straight up COMPELLED to take a shit job.

we all have to work, there's no avoiding it, unless you can prove disability Porky is literally standing there with a gun to your head, forcing you to "earn" a "living".

but why do some become mega rap stars and others dead drug dealers?

seems to me if you're put under the gun forced to work how do you have time or energy to develop anything else.

Is that for real?
If so, dayum.

ahahaha

man fuck poland

The "get out" mentality is stupid. You are born in that situation and the only way "out" for your family and yourself is to start a discussion, organize, form a union, and threaten action in conjunction with other workers in your field. I overheard some workers at my local coffee shop talking about how they are fucked over by "maximum" part time work. Where you work 30 hours a week at minimum wage, but if you worked for 31 hours then you get full time pay and benefits. They want to work more too, because they shuffle their hours around so the workers are basically working full time in everything but name. The time is now people.

the people i work with are all like that stupid fuckin polish guy tho, they believe in work ethic and rugged individualism and tax cuts for job creators.

they get all worked up about the "lazy" coworker with the health condition not pulling his or her weight and not the fact that their boss isn't paying them a decent wage or healthcare or a pension.

they still believe in the system, when the system is clearly just not that into them.

what i don't understand, is, if this is the land of opportunity how the FUCK are you supposed to go to school and do reasonably well in your classes while working full time. it's total fuckin bullshit.

Largely depends. Many need those jobs to survive and as such you should treat them with a modicum of respect and decency. I've worked shitty jobs like that and they suck ass. The trick is to always be looking for a way out if you can find one, as difficult as that may be for a lot of people.

just to be clear, I am from this background.

Most people are in denial. Realizing that the American dream is just that, a dream and that class mobility is a myth are two difficult pills to swallow. In my experience, however, I've known socialists/anarchists in my low wage jobs in the past and they know that it's all bullshit.

yeah this aligns with my experience

i was wanting to kill myself every day in mcdonalds, but i'm glad i didn't. i held out, and i took my entire pay packet - every penny i earned - and i went to the petrol station. i bought hundreds, maybe thousands of lottery tickets. every single penny i had, i slept in the kitchen and stole food from the bins so i could squeeze in an extra 5 a week. ticket after ticket after ticket. I was getting down, just ready to kill myself on a Friday night when I realized I had one ticket left. I stopped going up the stairs to the roof and checked it at the place I bought it. Sure enough, it was a winner. The jackpot in fact.

Now I'm a millionaire donor and welcome at all sorts of Labour party Grandee meetings.
So never give up, just keep buying. Throw everything you can at it, work even longer hours if you have to, and eventually you'll be a success like me!

Well the system is in such a state where to work full time and be a student (aka get out) is so near impossible that only the most exceptionally dedicated to be almost considered superhuman are able to escape. And when such a small standard deviation (comprised of extreme work and luck) are able to improve it is clear that organization is the only way for a mass to improve their lives. Ironically this insane difficulty is championed by the right. It is akin to having 100 people run through a mine field and then having 2 or 3 make it to the other end, and then the organizers of the event thinking that these lucky few prove that running through a minefield is possible and therefore justified. Instead of questioning why the minefield is there in the first place.
But whatever, just talk to these fellow workers. If they are too spooked then move on and try to work with other fast food/ lower skilled workers in your region.

This is for you

union electriciananon reporting in. my entire fuckin apprentice class are fuckin republicans.

me: "hey guyz how are you supposed to go to college and better yourself when your job pays like shit".

them: "lol learn a trade"

me: "it's a fuckin boys club you fuckers"

i should really be an engineer, what am i even doing here, everyone else tells me so too.

either they're all really spooked or i'm really bad at talking.

i'm never the cool kid at my job, this isn't helping things much, i'm a little bit nerdy, and think thoughts.

and now imagine you don't have rich parents/your parents die/make no money

its physically impossible to work a job, go to school, and pay rent. bootstraps is a literal myth.

socialism is a necessity and the most revolutionary class has become the most reactionary :/

lol witty

...

...

Are you the same femanon technician from that unionism thread a few months back? Either way, I hope you're doing better now.

must be, i haven't seen any others. i appreciate your concern.

This is the freedom you fought for.

That implies free will, you silly goose.

there's some free will. probably not much. "not any at all" is pushing it too far.

rip comrade.

I couldn't say, maybe its because when you're poor you often need a support network to get by, family, friends, even a gang. I want to leave my hometown desperate but I don't have the money to pick up and leave or a job-offer and I have a gf that complicates things some. Once you get the bus-ticket where do you stay, a hotel, a hostile, do you rent an apartment? How long can you maintain that until your money runs out?

I live at home with my parents cause I couldn't make rent on what I make. My gf works too and even if we pooled together and tried to make it, we would be just barely getting by.

Granted, where I live is more like McSmalltown then Helltropolis but I think there are parallels.

just do it user, that's what i did, you have to take a chance.

stake out a promising looking area and trust in fate (but mostly your innate creativity and resourcefulness).

i don't see why the gf can't come with you, two live cheaper than one.

Ya, that's what we're trying to do, but she is still in school atm. So, we're saving up what we can but neither of us gets paid shit, so sometimes it feels like 'what's the point'?

I keep trying to save for the future but I'm only a man, I do like to enjoy life every now and then. When we make that move we're gonna need every dollar we can get tbh

Burger King worker Mexico

I hate Mexico tbqh familia

How much do the burgers cost there mexicoanon?

Cheapest combo is 3 dollars or so.

Dude super-exploitation lmao

Amazing the price difference from .85 hour to $20 an hour is roughly $4 truly increased wages will cause all manner of items to become un-purchasable take that you economically illiterate commies.
