I suppose it would depend on what country your in, but in the US nazis or fascists make up less then a percent of the population with alt-righters maybe making up another half a percent, so your not off. The sad reality is most people don't have time to engage in politics, those that do or find the time to usually just scratch the bare surface and side with a party, and the few that do become far-left or far-right are (usually) too seperated or disassociated to really amount to any significant numbers or threat, at least nationwide.

Alt-righters aren't really that different from mainstream Republicans. All feels, no capacity for introspection, natural hierarchists and so on. It's not a clean association, but they're natural allies.

What I'm suggesting is that the reason both sides become violent is the demonization of the other side; if you make them inhuman you can commit violence more easily against them, and that will be followed with violence. If you want change, deescalation is key. Followed by well reasoned arguments, and maybe a eugenics program so that higher Autism Level people will naturally choose a correct path for our future. American antifa is now in the best position it has ever been in. And to an extent, they are now a valuable potential recruitment tool. The best case of this is the Richard Spencer punch - Democracy failed most Americans on multiple levels in 2016, and there was an undeniable rage among liberals and centrists which they were too big of pussies to express and too spooked to completely articulate. When that punch landed, it not only hit the bratty, idiotic smug face of the alt-right - it hit liberal establishment politics, too.
Now, a sizable group of Americans are just about rooting for a group who were barely acknowledged as anything other than opportunistic assholes with leftist leanings not long ago at all.
