I guess I don't have much besides personal experience, I've found that just living in a surburb/exurb and being a little shy is a little deadly when it comes to social development. To a large degree, your level of social interaction will come down to luck, and then whoever your parent(s) arranges playdates or meetings for. Kids can't drive to their friends house, and a lot of parents don't let their kids go somewhere on their own volition.

Suburbia and exurbia are just the natural consequences of the real estate "industry", and the societal ramifications don't end at kids. Adults too, can feel isolated and are sometimes physically isolated. Gas is expensive enough nowadays, and homes are far away enough, that being social can be real expensive even if you don't buy anything.

Never mind how housing prices force proles to move wherever they must, while workplaces generally don't. Now people are wasting 2+ hours a day in traffic, all because porky needs to profit.

Anyways, we can completely overhaul our housing system and probably see decent results immediately. Most of socializing is just getting practice.
