Why did the Soviet Union become a dictatorship?

Why did the Soviet Union become a dictatorship?

Why was democracy weakened, not strengthened, after the civil war?

Why did the Communist Party coalesce around the whims of a single all-powerful man?

It didn't.

The Soviet Union was a shit capitalist country, but Stalin wasn't an evil god who personally dictated everything.

...

Miles Mathis pls

As an history nerd, my perspective is that it evolved much in the authoritarian direction because the leaders became too paranoid about muh american spies to focus on implementing actual marxist ideas. Also they needed to produce lots of tanks to fight fascists, and sometimes, producing tanks is a more effective endeavour under state capitalism than socialism.

wtf im woke now

puppets of whom?

Because violent revolutions tend to result in paranoid dicatorships. If your regime is the result of popular discontent with a prior regime, chances are you're sufficiently self aware to prevent popular discontent overthrowing your regime by any means necessary

Also the fact that even among left-wing movements the Bolsheviks were a minority - and the fact that their success in the struggle for control was only due to violence against opposing factions - had a significant impact on their worldview

What are some books that explain the extent to which Stalin held power within the party and within the USSR?

Didn't he dominate the NVKD and just send them to kill literally everyone who disagreed with him?

For the same reason everybody in history who has absolute control after military conquest rules as a dictator.

because Lenin was a sperg and his pet Stalin was a weasel and an opportunist.

What would this have looked like?

Has ANY socialist state done that?

A handful of dicks strong-armed the ideologues.

The secessionists lost.

Refer to 1. Also niggers.

Very interesting point

It's because Lenin never intended to have democracy.
It's rather damning to the Leninist narratives of either "Soviet democracy existed" or "it was only stopped by the civil war" to quote Lenin and look at when he did what he did. After all, Fanny Kaplan only shot Lenin and set off the civil war with the SRs (majority elected to the soviets, btw) siding with the Whites when Lenin dissolved soviets which didn't elect Bolshevik majorities.

All Leninism, not just ML, is a pile of shit.

Because people decided to go back to Capitalism after they realized Lenin had tricked them into doing Socialism preemptively without setting the groundwork.

It was a dictatorship from the beginning. So what.

...

IIRC they managed to overcome the majority Leftist faction (the Social Revolutionaries?) by opening fire on their headquarters

The opposite is true.

Totally nothing to do with the fact that the Bolsheviks were detrimental in defending the liberal democracy after the February Revolution against a right-wing coup at the gates of Petrograd, not the fact that the Bolsheviks were the most popular amongst workers who weren't a majority in Russia at that time, not the fact that the Bolsheviks were vastly popular amongst the soldiers because of their anti-war stance, not the fact the Bolsheviks were favored in the periphery because of their anti-imperialist self-determination stance, no, all this doesn't count for a liberal like you who fetishizes bourgeois multi-party elections ignoring materialism.

imo, cuba has done this to a fairly large extent

Blame Lenin

Please explain!

Because the majority of the population didn't like commies and the hunger, death and ruin their brought. So the commies started to murder the population to stay in power.
Happens every time, notice how communists never come to power peacefully and there is always a genocide involved?

...

...

KGB proxies, who wiped out tribes, burned villages and kidnapped civilians for wrongthink?

short answer: becuase the society had to be unified for the sake of war

*blocks ur path*

Except the Bolsheviks blatantly undermined the institutions of proletarian democracy. The Soviets were meant to be the main institution of worker political power and Lenin stripped them of their autonomy.

...

Wew lad.

Now I see where this 72 gender thing started. That's actually very good, that way you will always be divided, because you have no common bond like blood or heritage.

Please, for your own sake, read a book.
To reiterate myself:
Clear enough?

Polite sage due to replying to a troll

Because Lenin created an ad hoc machine that could let the only socialist State survive in the middle of crises of such proportions that we can't even begin to fathom. Historically, it would be par for the course to dismiss him as just another man who talked a nice talk but betrayed it when he reached power, a spiel very popular with liberals. But unsurprisingly, here in Holla Forums there's a more lenient view that he did plan to make good on the promises of freedom and democracy that he made. This isn't just wishful thinking on our part, however. Lenin fits the role of an Incorruptible leader, the kind of person who lives for the revolution, like Robespierre. Amassed immense power, but didn't use it for material gain, beyond common luxuries for statesmen, such as good healthcare and catering. So yes, there is a good chance that Lenin would dismantle that horrible machine. But health betrayed him, Stalin took charge of the machine, and you know the rest.

So basically it's just another red sect and not a real political ideology.
As if that would ever happen. The majority of the people aren't dumb and will rests the red plague. This is exactly why the commies always come into power through violence and genocide.

Socialists won massive majorities, just not Bolshevik socialists. Plus, Lenin's literally advocating capitalism in those quotes.
Also
Kill yourself. Kill yourself now, for the sake of all past, present, and future socialists. It's clear that your first priority is to justify and legitimize the rule of the party, not to free people from oppressive and exploitative material relations. You're not a socialist.

Lenin explicitly stopped the development of socialism. He even stated that the masses were a thousand times to the left of the most extreme left party.

Allende was elected by popular vote, you imbecile.

Lies. All lies, you stupid Trot. Read the pdf linked in

...

...

No no, you're talking about the capitalist side in all of those fights

I wasn't aware Marx advocated for a dictatorship of the peasantry or the petty bourgeoisie

I wasn't aware Marx advocated for a dictatorship of the military

???

Be honest, is this a ruse or not? If not, be honest, does it say "Lenin did nothing wrong" or "Lenin did everything wrong"? Because I have a hunch this is an all-or-nothing screed.

AYY LMAO

fucking retard

Urban workers (ie, the proleteriat) overwhelmingly supported the Bolsheviks.

What is class.

I literally posted an example of a communist being democratically elected and you just said "lol he doesn't count because reasons". Not to mention what other user's say, the Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, and left SRs dominated the Soviets and constituent assembly after the February revolution, all of which were socialists who achieved their positions peacefully.
