"As Hurricane Harvey gains strength, residents along the Texas coast aren't taking any chances; they're filling sandbags, stocking up on water and boarding up windows.
In Corpus Christi, where Harvey could make landfall and Mayor Joe McComb has issued a voluntary evacuation order, Walmart shelves were clearing quickly, as the city canceled Friday's dockets in city court and provided self-serve sandbags to residents. Port Aransas on Mustang Island and nearby Portland issued mandatory evacuation orders. Houston, meanwhile, has canceled the first day of school on Monday. Harvey is rapidly strengthening and is forecast to become a Category 3 hurricane with winds of at least 111 mph by the time it hits the middle Texas coast late Friday or early Saturday, the hurricane center said Thursday. After hitting Corpus Christi, the storm is expected to stall over the state, forecasters say."

Just as a comparison Katrina averaged about 6 inches of rain, this one is projected to be 12 to 24 inches plus of rainfall. I've also heard that they haven't given an evac order because they are afraid of mass panic. The stores are already devoid of food and water, many people just heard about this and the storm has been projected to get even stronger before it makes landfall. And yes most of the areas that are going to be effected are black.
Pic related from halfchan, already low on food.
How are things looking? Did you just recently learn of the hurricane?
Kayden Richardson
I live in the 15+ inches area and I'm not too worried. Every past hurricane for years they have been hyping it up like this one and they all did not do shit.
Xavier Long
This is some of the scariest shit. If they'd keep quiet for something like a hurricane imagine how quiet they'd be if someone launched a nuke.
Nolan Russell
Pretty much. I'm not right in the path but I could expect a shitload of rain. And flooding. Flooding would be the main problem, really. Back in 2001 or some shit a tropical storm, not even a hurricane, hit my area and caused a flooding disaster. It was so bad they retired the storms' name (allison) even though it was never a hurricane. I'm not sure what this storm could do quite yet, but it's slow moving so more rain will be a problem. I haven't been to stores personally but I hear they're running out of stuff already. Another problem could be the inevitable traffic jam if everyone evacuates. That happened with one hurricane that wasn't even that bad and a bunch of people died in huge traffic accidents.
well, to their credit, they have those electronic traffic billboards everywhere saying "storm forming in gulf, get ready" and shit.

Trump will build a wall to stop the hurricane and Texas will pay for it. :^)

There's a chance the storm will make landfall twice and may even sweep by New Orleans. New Orleans water pumps have had problems lately.
Am I stupid or are natural disasters bad for the stock market? Because shit's already heading south on that front right now. The thread about it died though.

Shit coastal weather means great weather here in dallas, lower temps and rains that relive us of summer heat.
Andrew Sullivan
guys i live in san antonio and we may have shitty infrastructure and oil refineries on the texas coast but New Orleans was literally at or below sea level and with shitty levees the worse hit are will probably be houston because its so flat but its not gonna be as bad as katrina. or who knows it my be worse
Justin Garcia
A lot of areas here in Houston will probably be flooded or underwater. Right now I've got food but evacuation would be a problem and if power goes down I'm gonna be bored as fuck.

Everyone needs to read up on the Common Ground Collective's actions in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They're basically the model for radical crisis organizing, and if the administrations response to this is as bad as feared it's probably going to be necessary. If you can, I recommend "Emergency Hearts, Molotov Dreams" for an in-depth look.

In fact, if the apocalypse happens and we ever run out of power I'm going to get a handcrank and just put all my books on my kindle and have a library that lasts however long it takes for it to break. Then I'll transcribe all the knowledge like some kind of monk.
I'm headed to corpus to help right now. We won't let it necomw that. No way. If you are in the zone, be assured we're coming to help. Stay safe.

I don't have a printer.
It would be very difficult to get one right now. Luckily it won't be as bad as Ike and I hopefully won't get flooded too bad.

Someone needs to do a compilation image or pastebin of specific examples of horizontally organized groups who have managed to successfully do specific things (disaster relief, media, food, shelter, etc.) as good as or better than states/corporations, to demonstrate to people that it is feasible. Maybe I'll compile it together. Anyone got other examples of this sort of thing? I know about Unicorn Riot and the anarchist group in Portland that repairs potholes, for instance.

Houston Metropolitan is the most diverse city in burgerland, with Missouri City being the most diverse. Of course there's a relatively wealthy part of Missouri City so it'll be harder to see. I'm guessing the eastside will be the worst off and the wealthy parts of the westside will be ok. t. Houstonfag

Look at general election trends. Trump won the state by less than 10 points and the state is getting filled with more brown people. In addition, smaller counties are tired of getting fucked over by big oil companies. It'll be a swing state by 2028.

The police chief said that one good thing about this incident is that his family had faith and the belief in the afterlife gives everyone closure.
They shouldn't, because if the afterlife existed, he'd be in hell. This was an act of justice. Hurricane Harvey is a comrade.
Thomas Clark
I'm suprised they have any infrastructure. They probably have a shit fuck ton of police with lots of military grade hardware. I wonder how well it is working out for them now. Did they try shooting and praying the hurricane away.
