白左 (baizou, "white left") is used generally to describe those who “only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT and the environment” and “have no sense of real problems in the real world”; they are hypocritical humanitarians who advocate for peace and equality only to “satisfy their own feeling of moral superiority”; they are “obsessed with political correctness” to the extent that they “tolerate backwards Islamic values for the sake of multiculturalism”; they believe in the welfare state that “benefits only the idle and the free riders”; they are the “ignorant and arrogant westerners” who “pity the rest of the world and think they are saviours”.

Yea sure buddy the chinese for some reason use american terminology to describe a pretty much non-existant right wing strawman of the left in the west.

Oh no, you probably just made this up.

If you look at any thread about Trump, Islam or immigration on a Chinese social media platform these days, it’s impossible to avoid encountering the term baizuo (白左), or literally, the ‘white left’. It first emerged about two years ago, and yet has quickly become one of the most popular derogatory descriptions for Chinese netizens to discredit their opponents in online debates.

So what does ‘white left’ mean in the Chinese context, and what’s behind the rise of its (negative) popularity? It might not be an easy task to define the term, for as a social media buzzword and very often an instrument for ad hominem attack, it could mean different things for different people. A thread on “why well-educated elites in the west are seen as naïve “white left” in China” on Zhihu, a question-and-answer website said to have a high percentage of active users who are professionals and intellectuals, might serve as a starting point.

The question has received more than 400 answers from Zhihu users, which include some of the most representative perceptions of the 'white left'. Although the emphasis varies, baizuo is used generally to describe those who “only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT and the environment” and “have no sense of real problems in the real world”; they are hypocritical humanitarians who advocate for peace and equality only to “satisfy their own feeling of moral superiority”; they are “obsessed with political correctness” to the extent that they “tolerate backwards Islamic values for the sake of multiculturalism”; they believe in the welfare state that “benefits only the idle and the free riders”; they are the “ignorant and arrogant westerners” who “pity the rest of the world and think they are saviours”.

Apart from some anti-hegemonic sentiments, the connotations of ‘white left’ in the Chinese context clearly resemble terms such as ‘regressive liberals’ or ‘libtards’ in the United States. In a way the demonization of the ‘white left’ in Chinese social media may also reflect the resurgence of right-wing populism globally.

Just sounds like a couple of idiot chinks who drunk too much of the american internet coolaid. You get em all the time in europe too, fucktards who go to nationalists protests waving signs in english.

So much for the revolutionary Chinese.

So it's basically a term to describe idpollers? gotcha.
Thanks for sharing, my day wouldn't be complete without this piece of information.

They are anti idpol like most of leftypol.

choose 1

Is it really right wing populism, It seems as if they use white left as if the western world doesn't understand what it means to be a true leftist. I don't see the rise of pro capitalist sentiment where I live in china, quite the contrary, people seem to be more and more interested in Maoist thought even to the point of questioning the dengist reforms.
It kinda pisses me off that people use right wing to describe conservative social values while completely disregarding the economic aspect of the right wing.

so baizuo=libshit?

So im going to be in china for half a year some time soon, any tips and tricks?

IE what shit cant i shitpost about if i dont want to get deported? What food is a must have? etc

Just generally don't shit on the government that's a good start, at least not openly. When it comes to internet freedom I'm sure you're already aware of the fact that theres no youtube facebook or google, get all your files on a hard drive or get a vpn(google chrome doesnt work without a vpn)
Food wise if you're heading to Beijing definitely try the Beijing duck. Also try finding a sichuan restaurant to try mapo tofu, they have a special type of spice which they call "ma la" its very different to western spices. if you're in Beijing try din tai fung for dumplings and hongkong cuisine. And make sure to try the food from the different provinces you visit.Other than that beware of street food they use gutter oil(seriously).

Neat, thanks.
Also, any good resources for learning basic mandarin (other than textbooks)? Im thinking of things like childrens stories or simplistic comics.

I dont know any specefic chinese learning story books. I quizlet is really useful for learning, also learn some radicals so you can kinda gauge what the root of the character is at a glance. Also knowing radicals can help with memorization and phonetics, most characters have a phonetically radical in it, which is useful when you've never seen the character before.

Thank.

baizou (chinese for "leftard")

…. How are the environment, immigration and basic rights for dispossesed groups not real issues?

They are braindead nationalist chinese sperging out on the internet basing their opinions on thirdhand memes, what do you expect.

...

Idk if you have been living under the rock but this is a pretty good description of a large segment of leftists in the west (perhaps even the majority.)

Maoist revolution 2: electric bogaloo coming soon to a theater near you

I think they meant it in this sense.

Anything but. He couldn't be further from Che.

I don't think they are using it from a communist perspective. It's probably more like "climate change and alienation don't real, the only thing that matters is muh jobs and terrorism"

Mao fought for socialism and liberation from the occupation and later he started cultural revolution, so i think we can call him a romantic revolutonary. Also, Che liked Mao.

So liberals and idpol?

Only in america and only the universities. Is clear that the murrican right wingers mostly inflated the problem.
In my country Politically correctness exists, but is a thing that exists just to avoid saying "fag" on television, and CONSERVATIVE politically correctness is a real thing.
In my country there are no SJWs. LGBT fights for their right by addressing the problems and trying to fix them, and feminists mostly have no "patriarchy" ideology and are recognized by both left and right (most of the right wingers respect the women rights). No real idpols.
And i fucking live in Italy, a huge religious country!

SJWs exists, are filthy idpol, but they are not as excellent as you think. They mostly exists on youtube and in the rightwingers mind.

The chinese have a word for liberal idpol??

That might be the most correct thing to come out of modern maoists, if true.

Next time I get into it with a tumblr user I'm calling them baizou.

Many Chinese would probably view the groups in question (usually blacks and Arabs in practice) as backwards peoples disruptive of orderly society and be relatively uninterested in "helping" them

WTF I love China now.
No but seriously, why are we hearing about this? You guys think China is setting up a culture war thing?
You know, some sort of psyop to drive liberals toward the real left and ultimately weaken America. If it is a psyop, they need to do MUCH better than this. Oh well, a man can dream.

...

Baizou would include most of leftypol.
Shengmu is a pretty cool term for virtue signallers though, "holy mothers", Merkel during the migrant crisis being the prime example of the term to the Chinese.

no it isn't retard. look at the Britbongs or Sweden

lol.

Written in english on zhihu of all places so it's a butthurt foreigner.

isnt the chinese white left term created by Chinese Conservative / lolberts / neoliberals to basically connect western idpol libs to communism, though?

Chinese are hilarious.

I get genuinely want to push this baizou meme, the way Holla Forums has goy

So they have their own word for identitarian/SJW.

Is there a Mandorin word for Holocausts too?

Wikpedia shows 猶太人大屠殺, roughly "great massacre/genocide of Jews", so it's a pretty generic term

The marvelous female authorizes communist before the sundry. An ideology toggles coprophagia. The curry explodes? The worm utters a cassette. Past the cuddly category cracks a such originator.
