I bought into the accelerationist idea. I was wrong

The idea of Trump somehow shocking and revitalizing the left seemed relatively sound, however that idea is now a myth. We thought Trump's elections would lead to mass leftist movement, however the opposite has happened. Trump has actually led to the consolidation of power to the liberal movement, as the aim of most of the opposition movement is to impeach trump–not focus on any of the things that he has passed. The establishment has geniously used him to further anti-Russian hysteria that Obama for all his faults somewhat contained. Now the cat is out the bag and once Trump is impeached, it is likely that the establishment will move to start WW3 with Russia.

Hillary=Trump. There was no difference by the election whatsoever. It seems the only thing left to do now is organize with whatever leftist movements are available to prepare for the coming capitalist crash. Only the worsening of material conditions has the ability to wake up the working class, but even that is no guaranteed. FUCK YOU PORKY.

cool slide thread Holla Forums

Cool dubs, you schizo retard.

Only if you're a retard btw. During the elections you could already see signs of the liberal establishment reaching out to and rehabilitating discredited Bush-era neocons for their "anti-Trump alliance", and also widespread frustration among all left-of-center types at third parties and Bernie-or-bust types, and these people by now have probably bought into the narrative that splitting the vote has costed Hillary the election, which is something that will continue to be used against us.

Reactionary governments always lead one way or another to consolidation of all opposition into one bloc lead by its most conservative elements. If doesn't happen on a partisan level, it happens on a cultural level. So now we'll have the prag-progs becoming the synonym for "liberal" when this time, last year, it seemed like we had the chance to push them out of politics.

Only retards think like that as well. There are more commies in the few lasting bastions of social-democracy than in all the main neoliberal shitholes put together.

There isn't much of a left in the USA to begin with. DSA membership is booming and Bernie is the most popular politician if that means anything to you.

Give it a few years. Big happenings will give us massive momentum. Next crisis of capitalism cannot take long.

If we want mass movements like those during the era of the great depression, worsening of material conditions seems to be absolutely necessary. People wont get off their ass unless their own livelihood is at stake.

The "consolidated" liberal movement has put the democrats out in the open as collaborators with the republicans as they try to oust Trump. In all practical terms, they are severely weakened, and people hate them. Meanwhile, socialist organizing in the US is seeing more growth than it has in decades.

God you are hopelessly retarded. 'Accelerationism', which isn't even the correct word for it, is not about creating a movement in reaction to mean things trump says you autistic faggot. It is about further intensifying the contradictions of capitalism. The next crash will hit very soon and we haven't recovered from the last one. Everything is progressing as capitalism's material conditions dictate.

what garbage is this?

Also, if you haven't seen support for the left then you're checking the wrong places.

Check how opinions and support for $15 min wage and single-payer healthcare has changed over the last year.

There is already signs of social democratic movements being co-opted. Look at the TYT and their massive shilling for anti-Russian propaganda. Look at the rise of individual donor funding from billionaires in response to "corporate donations". I don't think we are screwed yet but I don't think Trump's election helped. Once he gets removed, the opposition movements besides DSA and fringe left groups will relent.

There's still a lot of hope but looking back, I don't think it made a difference.

The biggest Socialist and Labour movements in history happened during periods of relative stability and progress. In the US, the Socialist Party, for example, reached its peak after Teddy's government:

This was never replicated again in history, even its worst moments. During the great depression, during neoliberalism, during the Civil Rights conflicts, ever. Similarly, the Second International, the best working class movement in history, existed mostly between two large crises.

"Things need to get bad enough" is a meme spread in bourgeois media to get jaded socialists to think that when capitalists win again, it's "deep down" a victory for us. It's meant to pacify us and get us attached to fatalist notions of an incoming super-crisis.

How then do you explain the fact that there's no big socialist movement now?

But what's your logic here? Politics-wise we're living one of the worst periods for working people since WW2.

how often do you browse leftypol?

Who told you something this stupid? Accelerationism isn't about revitalizing the left, it's about indulging the people's stupidity and watching them suffer for it.

It was a slow death. Crashes wake people up. The good thing about the growth of DSA since Trump is that once there is a crash, there is an organization which can channel that anger

It's irrelevant, it can't make things worse.

This is true, but crashes are part of capitalism and beyond our control, so it makes no point arguing for or against them. What I argue against is the pseudo-accelerationist idea that even during stable periods it's worthless fighting for more concessions because things need to get bad enough and so on.

I agree.

Dude if even our own board is anything to go by accelerationism is working, that and a combination of Trump dragging the name of the right through the shit once again.

The only problem is, if it continues through the next couple terms of presidency, or if Trump gets booted after 4, we maybe get a Bernie light and then everyone forgets about the revolution

Working conditions were absolutely horrible for people in the early 20th century which resulted in strong organization. The economies stability had nothing to do with it.

...

The success of socialism in the USA during the 1930s and 40s was because the more moderate elements of parties like CPUSA allied with progressive New Deal liberals in order to support social democratic reformism. This compromise was swiftly dismantled by more conservative political forces after WWII was won, mostly out of fear of the Soviet Union. Not necessarily a time of stability and progress, more like a shared commitment to moderation and progress in the face of fascism.

Regardless, I would agree that worsening material conditions do not automatically result in class consciousness.

But people were better off in the early 20th century then they were in the early 18th-19th centuries. The average Western citizen was still for the most part better off then your average colonial slave subject. The whole "things were worse back then" argument doesn't really apply because people could and did use it to defend capitalism, only the Left was strong enough both organizationally and ideologically that that wasn't too persuasive to the average worker.

What planet are you living on? How will they impeach him with no wrongdoing and no provable muhRussia angle?

American has murdered millions for less.

Just like last time when America transitioned from the Social Gospel to the depression. Top lel.

Aren't we discussing mass psychology and popular reaction to certain conditions? The point is they mostly saw improvement related to what they'd previously known, they weren't mostly shoved into Dickensian misery when labour unionism became big.
