His biography after he dirs.

i think "violence" is one of the easiest

Violence and First as Tragedy, Then as Farce and now that you're at it, familiarize a bit with Hegel and Lacan.

Do you have anything you'd recommend for a brainlet like me to get the gist of Hegel and Lacan, at least to the extent that Zizek uses their ideas? I always hear that their writing can be very tedious to read.

ah that will indeed be a sad day, the day he dirs

op read first as tragedy then as farce. it's short, it's simple and you're probably familiar with a few of the things he says by watching his videos.

Tbh his books aren't that great.

If you watch his lectures on YouTube, you get the idea.

If you're totally new, pirate "The Pervert's Guide to Cinema" & "The Pervert's Guide to Ideology", two movies.

Thanks. Sounds like I'll read Tragedy and then move on to Violence.

Thanks, already seen them though. Those were my first exposure to Zizek other than the memes.

Why, you thinking about which order to throw them in the trash?

I'm extremely reluctant to get into Zizek because he talks and acts like a complete post-modernist, and then there's his history with liberals… Am I wrong?

Yes, you're retarded if you judge a book on purely imaginary grounds.

Visit us over here homie

I've watched a few videos with him. I wouldn't make judgements if I were completely unfamiliar with the man.
And you didn't my question. Nobody whom I ask about Zizek ever does, which is very worrying.

I answered your question at the beginning of my sentence. You're wrong. Just fucking read him.

he frequently engages with pomo from a critical standpoint. the dude is a marxist and a lacanian, both of which are fields kind of antithetical to pomo rhetoric

The one where Chairman Pow BTFO liberals

China has come up with a tern for Modern Western "Leftists":

白左 (literally "white left")

Zizek was right

Does China even have a welfare state anymore?

also, i really want the anti-pomo crowd to understand this: complicated ideas=/=postmodernism.

every time i see someone accuse an intellectual grounded in psychoanalysis and/or marxism of being a postmodernist i cringe. yall clearly don't know a thing about current philosophy

hes a witting or unwitting gatekeeper much like chomsky, he exists to keep college students busy with pedantic western liberal theory masturbation as the world descends into endless proxy wars and the banksters slowly but surely instate worldwide population control and neo-feudalism under the unipolar auspice of the burgerniggers and their snaggletoothed inbred anglo puppet masters

at least he has autism and is a deviant, that makes up for some of it, also his bits on Pretty Coolism and his yugo army stories are preddy funny

which of his usual points of interest inhabit this category?

i have two issues here: one, your slurs here are so memed out that i seriously don't understand which groups you're referencing, and two, pretty much all of zizeks discourse (even, a lot of the time, the non-explicitly economic issues he addresses) is predicated off of a recognition of modern philosophy's relationship to the global capitalist order it is produced in. this is literally the foundation of his criticism of postmodernism and postcolonial studies.

you can say the classic 'well what is he doing about it' bullshit in response to this, but that fundamentally misunderstands the role of philosophy and theory in emancipatory movements. not only will there always be people who support revolutionary action without necessarily being a part of the 'groundwork' operation (this idea itself has serious problems), but an effective revolutionary movement's goals and ideology have a philosophical underpinning. for thhe development of this, we need philosophers.

pfft and I get accused of lacking the basics

While I struggle to work through your post I think I get the jist of it, a)he acknowledges that everything he puts out or anything else for that matter will always be a product of the "global capitalist order" and b)its not his fault that he doesnt actually offer any solutions nevermind some kind of Gestalt that people can latch on to because that isnt the job of the "philosopher"

Well thats kinda bullshit in my honest opinion, at least in contrast to the amount of reverence and fanfare he recieves, so far he seems to have contributed nothing of any merit just a bunch of wordy needlessly complex drivel and popculture faff that is downright demoralizing if you arent steeped in it

I find it somewhat telling that your retort was not

no, instead you offer me up excuses on why its fine that zizek has never really done anything and that at least he understands hes part of the problem with the underlying message of everything being kinda futile anyways

almost nothing that he says that ive heard is relevant to the common man in the west, nevermind some poor haji in fuckin yemen, putting the penny-pinching slovene on a pedestal is ridiculous and he seems to be the absolute darling of the "left" right now, I dont fucking care about lacans revulsion of menstruation or autistic similies about fistfucking I want to know how to not be a defacto war criminal by paying taxes and I wouldnt mind having some kind of fucking future that isnt fighting waves of man-eating cockroaches after a global thermonuclear war. health care would be great too

what we need is to shut this shit down, not another limpdicked indecipherable intellectual, its gone on for too long, im open to the strangest of bedfellows at this point, and on some level that seems to be the intent, it might all be a fucking Kantian ProblemReactionSolution thing that some spook has conjured up

I have this goofy theory that wittgenstein went to the same school as hitler as a kid and since he was a such a raging sperg he gave addi all these horrible preconceptions about kikes, well what if zizek exists to do something similar, he is there to turn any red blooded male away from leftism by being such a sputtering dishevelled looking ninny they turn away from anything on the "left" in disgust

I can confidently say that mad max keiser is infinitely more relevant to some kind of international form of socialism than zizek, and hes a spastic coke-damaged former banker that deeply believes in gapitalism and the "free" market

If you've read Violence, how legit is this critique: youtube.com/watch?v=atRaFE2i8z8

I really enjoyed First as Tragedy, Then as Farce. Even though it's nearly a decade old at this point, it's still pretty insightful. Zizek predicts Trumpism in it by way of criticizing berlusconi. Do recommend.
