It's weird how the idpol sector of the left made Foucault into a secular Saint of sorts even when he was a quasi Nietzchean edge Lord at heart, thought identity politics where just another form of control and went full neoliberal towards the end of his life. Imo some interesting things on his work, but not good for the left so far, specially in its institutional academic received Californian version. The emphasis on muh discourse over the obvious material realities of power in particular was a boon for bourgeoisie academic chatterers

Foucault had sympathies for classical liberalism as he was laying on his death bed, yes; but let's not try and claim otherwise that the homophobia and anti-semitism that was rampant in the French Communist party didn't alienate him.
