Is cyberpunk unironically over? I feel like Altered Carbon no not that awful S2 was the last truly *cyberpunk* piece of media to come out in recent years. With how Cyberpunk 2077 seems to have damaged the rep of the genre, it seems like no one's really interested or talking about it much anymore. Will we ever see a resurgence or something? It's one of the truly /comfy/ settings that I love to get lost in.
Is cyberpunk unironically over...
>>164638658>Is cyberpunk unironically over?I hope so. Homophobic CDPR killed the genre with their garbage game.
>>164638658Real world is cyberpunk without cool aesthetics>Corporations own everything>Asian country dominates the world>America and Europe in decline>Political and religious extremism
>>164639624but i want my cybernetic arms and legs, user
>>164639658Wait 15 more years bro
>>164639624>religious extremismOnly if you mean the state religion of söy by that
>>164638658Normies latched onto it and ruined it. Dont expect a faithful/passionate cyberpunk setting for several years if even
>>164638658I'm sure more video games will come out, film not so much. Can't say I care that much either way, I'm over it, we got our fill plenty in the last decade.
>>164638658It was over when BR 2049, Ghost in the Shell and Battle Angel all bombed in a row. Hollywood won’t try again for at least another decade if that.
>>164639718On the other hand we got more than our fill of capeshit but they aren't stopping
>>164638658Cyber-noir > cyberpunk
>>164640012This OP is probably better off watching stuff like pic related or Dragged across concrete to get his kino fix
>>164638658Don't worry user, if you didn't take the vaccine then you'll most likely live to see it happen in your lifetime.
>>164640012Absolutely based. Although, I don't really know of any movies in that specific sub-genre. Would love to actually see a modern one tho.Pic related. Guy Noir, Private Eye but in the dystopia future.
how much media can there be about hyper capitalism and corpo dystopia? Why else would something be set in a cyberpunk world? If you're going to say "because it's cool" please watch 100 films made before 1950
>>164638658season 1 was dogshit
>>164640209>Although, I don't really know of any movies in that specific sub-genre.Bladerunner is the big one. The Thirteenth Floor is kind of tech noir, also very good. There's Godard's Alphaville, which is the only movie by him that I liked. And one of the shorts from Animatrix, "A Detective Story."
>>164640209>Guy Noir, Private Eye but in the dystopia futureSounds pretty dope, does anyone have any good examples?
>>164638658Most of the people who make shows these days are unironically too stupid to write cyberpunk for film or streaming.Just look at Altered Carbon, it was cool until they jumped the shark near the end of season 1, and the show could never recover so nobody even bothered with season 2. They will fuck it up, time and again, unless you put in the rare few who know what the fuck they're doing and actually want to do something more thoughtful.
>>164639624This.
>>164639765This.
>>164639624Don't forget state-funded propaganda, forever-conflicts and social credit scores
Cyberpunk 2077 had issues but it was still a great game and didn't deserve all the hate it got. Also I'm sure there will be more cyberpunk media. There are lulls sometimes, like before the most recent resurgence, but it'll come back like it always has since the genre's inception.
>>164639390FUCK OFF FARQUAAD SPIC
>>164640837It deserved all the hate it got what the fuck are you talking about? I still enjoyed it but you can enjoy janky trash while still admitting its janky trash.
>>164641309It wasn't trash though. It had bugs and was unoptimized, it could've done with better AI (the police was baffling), and the traits should've been better balanced but the base was good. It helps that I was playing on a decent PC so it performed well enough, and I only experienced one annoying bug in the last quest. I really think most people complaining about it being a janky mess were playing on last gen consoles or something, because for the most part it was standard new release troubles on my end.I liked that I had several ways to tackle most missions and side quests. I enjoyed having so many dialogue options that seemed to affect the later game. Most of them weren't major mind you, but I had a couple of moments where I was impressed like when talking to that old Japanese guy before breaking into the Arasaka compound. A lot of people like to act like literally none of your choices changed anything except for the last quest but that simply wasn't true. I wish I could bring up some detailed examples but it's been 2 years now.So yeah it had a good narrative and fun gameplay, janky maybe, but it wasn't that bad. The game wasn't trash at all. It's one of two AAA releases that I really enjoyed in the past decade.
>>164640837>>164641309The complaints against it were legit, but yeah the fanboys jacked off too hard and the haters hated too hard. Now that all this time has passed and it's been patched a million times it's a fairly decent if unremarkable game, but at launch it was a bug filled mess, they cut out a full third of the promised features, non-combat mechanics were either dull and few in number, and the ai and spawning mechanics were retarded.
>>164638658>Is cyberpunk unironically overGod, I hope so. An 80s vision of the 2010s? wow that deserves 4000 franchisees in 2022
>>164641830I still think the bugs were majorly exaggerated. Like I said, I only saw one major bug in the last quest and that was around launch.I remember there was some new YouTuber at the time who was gaining traction on Holla Forums, and he was blatantly playing an unpatched version of the game on a launch PS4 so he could make it look as shitty as possible for clicks. It sucked that they cut out so many promised features but that's more of a problem with marketing than anything. Most games cut out a ton of features by release but they don't always advertise them like CDPR did.CDPR marketers were pretty fucking stupid, they were doing well generating interest with vague teasers but they just went balls to the wall overpromising shit starting in 2018.I would've loved some of those features like wall running and third person perspective like they said would be possible but what we have now is a pretty solid game.
>>164638658trannies ruined it like they ruin everything else
>>164638658What are you babbling and whining about? There is more cyberpunk as time goes on than ever before. There was barely a handful in the 90s and 00s. There's a whole live action blade runner series coming next year, in addition to the animated one not long ago.
>>164639765>>164640594Load of whiny shit. BR bombed in the cinema too. Not all films are designed to be box office winners, studios recognise the value of sleeper hits and cult franchises these days. You are deranged if you think br2049 hasn't made a massive profit in sales and merc by now, and it will continue to make money for decades.
>>164639658
>>164642135There's also a Cyberpunk 2077 anime
>>164638658Cyberpunk 2077 literally BTFO the entire genre with their reddit take. Thank god, maybe we can start getting Raypunk/Retro Futurism kino.
>>164642278And a bunch of stuff plebs here don't even know about, people don't look too hard for content and only look at the big AAA releases.
>>164640109Have you seen Copshop? It’s pretty fucking good.
>>164640209There was a good sci-fi film about androids that had a grizzled nourish cyber cop in it, forget film name, but it was pretty good.
>>164640837>>164641757>CDPR apologistWtf are you doing bro, they released almost 50 gb patch day couple of days ago nuff said. I liked some parts of the game my favourite being fag detective and politician couple, I played it last december and bugs were pretty rare (flying enemies in one place, can't finish some quests without killing target, textures broke for me once and that's about it). My biggest grasp is pacing and booring empty, but at the same time pretty big world with 1 trylion of completely pointless endevours a'la ubisoft. I liked that they also put some roleplaying options (you had pro corpo and anti corpo dialogue to choose from as ex corpo) but they were to few in between. CB made be want to play new Deus Ex even more.
>>164639695Op is one of them normies.
>>164642246The proof is in the dream of electric hand jobs.
>>164642050I played it the first time on ps4pro and again recently on ps5 and had a great time both times. People like to fucking whine about dumb shit.
>>164642347>they released almost 50 gb patch day couple of days agoThis is basically one of the biggest reasons I don't bother with modern titles anymore. Like thanks, I'm not downloading GB of patches just to play a fucking game that should be ready on day 1.I'll just stick with my Diablo II instead.
>>164642489Like thanks, but I'm not*
>>164642489It was less a patch and more of a complete rework of the original game. But continue to play the same 10 maps on Diablo like the autismo you are.
>>164642347I'm not trying to be an apologist and say the game didn't have issues. I just wish more people would give the game a chance because it's definitely worth a playthrough.I'm glad you enjoyed some of the game. I do think there should've been more to do in the world but I really liked the side gigs/quests. A bunch of them were designed so you could come at them with different approaches and there was some neat lore hidden in them. I remember one where you had to kill a Mexican gang leader for some reason and the guy who gave me the gig later called to tell me about some shady shit they were doing with Arasaka which kind of tied into the main story. I also loved the politician quests. I really hope they make an expansion about that blue eye conspiracy.>>164642374I'm thinking about starting a second playthrough now, myself. I'm just now looking at the 1.5 patch notes and it looks like they made a ton of improvements.
>>164642726>I'm not trying to be an apologistYes, you are. And pretty blatantly too. It's fine if you enjoyed it, in the same way that it's ok to like mediocre games and that you shouldn't feel offended when someone puts it down because liking isn't (or shouldn't be) a facet of your identity.
>>164638658how can cyberpunk be over when its the reality of our present times and the more into the fututre the more cyberpunk its becoming
>>164639624>Cull entire Holla Forums with one postHoly based
>>164642842I mean I'm defending it but I'm also leveling my own criticisms at the game and company. The thing is I don't think it's a mediocre game, it's great albeit flawed which it seems they've mostly patched out by now.Like I'm not offended by people talking shit about the game, I just want to put my own opinion out there since it's relevant and might change some minds. It seems like the subtext with that post is, "You can like things that I don't like if you want, but don't you dare disagree with me about it on the internet."Just saying "it's ok to like things that are trash" comes off like you refuse to even consider other people's perspectives, as if it's a fact that it's shit.
>>164642726>>164642842Fuck off to v if you want to waffle on about patches and release issues virgins. This is a Holla Forums thread about cyberpunk. Stop shitting it up.
>>164643335Sorry, I'll stop.
>>164643307>but I'm also leveling my own criticisms at the game and companyNo, you're not, you're making veiled remarks to make it seems like you're not an apologist, but you severely underestimate anyone reading your posts, e.g.>I do think there should've been more to do in the world but I really liked the side gigs/questsPerfect example where the second part invalidates the first one because for you that was enough. You're like people that say "Look, I'm not racist and racism is wrong, but if 13% of the population commit 50% of the crime..." with the difference is that they are based and you're spineless.>>164643335STFU faggot, go back to tumblr if you can't handle people disagreeing with you.
>>164643446You misunderstand. The user I was responding to said the game was boring and empty but also had pointless Ubisoft shit to do. I agree with his first point but I thought the "Ubisoft" stuff was fun.
>>164643335How about this, Altered Carbon would still be a thing if they had cast Joel Kinneman in season 2 instead of black guy du jour Anthony Mackie. How’s that?
>>164640504>unless you put in the rare few who know what the fuck they're doing and actually want to do something more thoughtful.Bullshit. Cyberpunk like every other "punk" is just an aesthetic. The thoughtful aspects are usually icing on the cake or autistic overreading. Cyberpunk fans just want neon lights, rainy high tech mega cities, and cybernetics tacked on everything. Absolutely no different to the steampunk fags that just slap cogs on victorian era architecture and clothing and call it a day. You only need good artists to make said aesthetic look appealing and then the autists will go all in trying to connect dots and make it sound deeper than it is. Cyberpunk was never anything more than communist propaganda in the future. It only got "deep" retroactively because corporations really did take over the world. Everything else is just edginess and teen angst.
>>164643446>>164643495To elaborate because my last post wasn't clear I don't think the side quests were enough content for an open world game. It was fun but they should've included more to make it feel like there was more to do in the world like card games or something. There's nothing to interact with so the world feels dead. It's like I have to be 100% hate or 100% love for something if I want to discuss it on the internet lol. These kinds of discussions or tiring for me so I prefer to include both.
>>164643495Every single post you have made describing any part of the game boils down to "Sure, guys, it's true that the game was trash, but it actually wasn't because this and that part I liked and therefore it has any flaws you mind find do not factor in the equation". Ergo, an apologist. Again, it's fine if you like it, but there are literally thousands and thousands of post stating what's wrong with the game, to the point that yes, it is a fact that when Cyberpunk 2077 released, it was irredeemable trash. This not an hyperbole either, you can go to the Holla Forums archives, and spend the rest of your lifetime reading those comments.
The genre was over by about 2000, the recent revivals were just puppeteering its corpse
>>164640671>state-funded propagandaThis shit has been a thing since the dawn of time, what are you talking about?
>>164643656>no different to the steampunk fags that just slap cogs on victorian era architecture and clothing and call it a dayI take unprecedented offense to this comparison and I beseech you to take it back.
>>164643679You can reword it however you like but I'm just saying it's a good game that has some flaws. I didn't defend their shitty AI or poor balancing. The only thing you can say that with is the bugs/optimization which I really don't think were an issue unless you played on a release PS4 or something. But I suppose you're just going to see whatever you want to see.Anyway, if you base your opinions on how many posts support that opinion on Holla Forums you're probably an underage retard.>>164643335This is my actual last post, sorry for derailing!
