What can we do to support the upcoming WGA strike in the coming weeks?
The members of the WGA are spooked. Pro-Clinton Hollywood writers are hard to sympathize with, I get it. But despite the celeb culture, the majority of writers are not rich, and are being denied parental leave, overtime, and their health plan is about to go insolvent
I support the strikers 100 percent. Porky and Hollywood have never been closer and the industry needs a shakeup so we can get unclasscuck people in "the business"
This is a huge opportunity to use the internet to expose all of the Porkys in the media who don't support the strike.
Juan Jackson
fucking lol. See? This strike is a powerful way to smack a lot of people in the face with reality.
Luke Sanchez
see this is the shit that pisses me off with leftypol. we'll jerk each other off about theory all day but when a serious labor dispute becomes national news, no one gives a shit.
Jordan Martin
opportunist
Christopher Scott
something something something armchair
Joseph Nguyen
The problem is when all of these writers get immediately fired and replaced by up and coming new writers fresh out of school begging on their hands and knees to work for almost free for their "big break".
Easton Lopez
Seriously though, this is probably something we should get behind. What that would look like, I don't fucking know. What kind of propaganda will be needed and who should it be directed at?
Asher Butler
you're goddamn right i am.
Dominic Young
normies mad that their favorite talk shows are off the air. the talk shows get shut down first. then, the normies who blamed the strikers for their shows 10 years ago like "Heroes" beginning to suck. We need to explain that it's Porky's fault their TV is getting fucked up, not the people who create it and are losing a piece of the pie.
no im not in the wga by the way. im in a diff entertainment union that sucks dick. i am jealous of the wga.
Grayson Cook
Question should be, what could you achieve with it? Higher wages for already specialized front of labor? Further expansion of capital?
Jeremiah Young
If some user can figure out what needs to be done, in terms of graphics/advertisements/propaganda pieces/demographics/things that need to be done, I'm all for getting behind something.
I don't like people that associate Leftcom with doing nothing, I prefer to think of it as people that can contribute via online campaigns rather than in-person protests.
Liam Murphy
was this successful last time in 2008? if not, why should we care about a wga strike?
Jonathan Garcia
A strike's a strike. Let's say we help the strikers and their demands are met. Perhaps this could be useful in raising the profile of the actual left in the US outside the context of academia and smashies?
Nathan Scott
yes. The strikers got New Media contracts. Netflix and other streaming services would have been nonunion without these strikes.
On the other hand, the film industry is actively dicking over the WGA and undermining them with 50s style writers rooms for franchises. Much less pay. An old, shittier system that's new again.
Jeremiah Ramirez
Maybe make more of a point that copyright a shit, and then slick entryst how other private property is also theft:
Jack Ross
So called prestige TV and streaming services have really hurt writers. Writers get paid per episode and television seasons are very short these days (and getting even shorter). And syndication is quickly becoming a thing of the past thanks to Netflix and Amazon. I support the strike.
Evan Martin
Just off the top of my head. this could be tied to things like a series or franchise being dragged on for too fucking long either through a hundred gorillion filler episodes or a like number of sequels.
Landon Fisher
Also, free work is out of control. Hollywood, more than nearly any other industry, is deeply guilty of exploiting extras, PAs, writers assistants, and unpaid interns, who can't unionize and defend themselves. The celebrity culture it spawned arguably created Trump.

This ties into "reality TV", which has flooded the industry with low-budget substitutes for actual writers, and made more obscure those writers who are involved.

Organize in the discord using a plan that looks something like this:
1. Make propaganda, very leftist without any macarthy triggering words (eg. no mention of communism, socialism). Mention class. Mention the disparity of wealth. Maybe the WGA already has propaganda made.
2. Post on a socialist subreddit of this plan, but make it appear that it is a new idea. Please please please, make no mention of Holla Forums.
3. Post the premade propaganda on the thread, important to make it look like you just did it.
4. Post the propaganda on late stage capitalism sub. It has enough subscribers to make it to the front page.
4. We promote the fuck out of the posts.
4. Promote the tits out of WGA strike news on /r/news.
5. I'm not familiar with the twitters but definitely do something there.
6. Contact the fucktards with socialist meme pages on facebook, give them propaganda to post.
7. Contact the socialist groups and the #resistTrump groups and convince them of helping out
7. Also contact the feminist and all other fashionable groups. Make the message so it is relevant to whatever they are. Feminists -> "women are not hired for certain jobs, and when they are, they are not paid enough."
7. ????
4. profit
four easy steps.
It's important that people get on discord and coordinate.
Maybe get the socialist e-celebs tell their audience to meme the WGA strike into something bigger. What we want is to use the strike to spread class consciousness.
Blake Diaz
Stupid excuse and a scare tactic. Theyre begging right now too. Lets not raise against the porky because we can get fired.
Colton King
Probably gonna be a scab and get my career started tbh
Aiden Jenkins
If you cannot convince a scab into solidarity, acquaint his head with the pavement.
Cameron Perry
what a cunt
Tyler Jackson
Leftcoms should all be executed
Caleb Richardson
Lmao
Of course.
This board is more dedicated to complaining about idpol than it is to supporting workers.
Hudson Garcia
Holy shit we should do this. I'm gonna show it to the letter discord
