Your desktop (based off of Red Hat running XFCE) operates without an internet connection, it does not communicate with any other machine, ever. it is 100% isolated.

This hypervisor virtualizes everything you do in seperate virutal machines.

every time a virtual machine is closed it gets scrubbed. I can download and install a virus, and after restarting the VM its gone.

Only way to infect the entire machine is to connect your dom0 to the internet (which there is NEVER any reason to do) and then install malware.

This. It's pretty much what I do. I have a desktop that I play games on and I have my laptop that I do most everything else on. Would be cool if I could do high end gaming in a secure manner, but Windows 7 with some common sense opsec is the best I can do without sacrificing my hobbies. Will give up on Windows in general when Windows 7 stops being supported.

yeah, i'm able to run most windows games on steam through wine. some are more tricky than others to get to work due to certain packages needed and whatnot and stuff like directx but most of it's pretty easy to get to work.

But on the topic of Qubes OS, you can install windows into a domain and have a full fledged windows machine running on the OS… that way you dont have to wine anything…

Since Qubes is a type I hypervisor, you may as well virtualize windows (if you have the extra mem that is) rather than using wine
