Also I'll finally make a start on that non-shit chart later today, I'm thinking we should have one that covers RTS and RTT and a second chart for TBS and TBT (there's too much to get all four subgenres in one chart and not enough to make four satisfying chart before we even get into fringe cases). The only issue then would be how to classify the more hybrid games like Total War, Darkest Hour or Rule the Waves short of just making a third Grand Strategy/Misc chart and grouping them under that.

Project Perfect Mod's a pretty decent place to look for some pretty dope mods. Moddb too, but PPM is usually kept more up-to-date by the modders. ppmsite.com/

Pic related is a GDI detainment center I built in Twisted Insurrection's Delta City map.

Lesser known but still great RTS. Check them out if you haven't, but we're in an RTS thread so you've probably heard of them.

RTS with Hero unit. What makes it unique is the sheer volume of stuff. Warlords Battlecry 3 has a dozen races, a dozen domains of magic a mostly open world campaign and just in general the game has so much goodness. It is very rough around the edges, but if you like fun, this game can be a lot of fun. You can play a merchant who pays half price for all their units, an assassin with 25% chance to insta-kill 3 times a second, a mage who summons giant armies etc.

A Japanese flavoured RTS made in the west featuring four distinct factions. Unique to this RTS is its unit production, where peasants spawn over time (increased by the number of houses you build vs how many you already have) which you send into one of three production structures to train into a unit. Send a peasant into a Dojo, they become a Spearman, send a peasant into an Archery range, they become an Archer. But build on the back of that is the ability to train a unit twice. Sending a Spearman into an Archery Range (or Archer into a Dojo) produces a Dragon Warrior. It's a unique system that tickles the brain. Fighting generates a special resource used on upgrades or to recruit late game hero units.
That's without mentioning the campaign, one of the few where choices you make can actually influence the gameplay (mostly in which heroes join your faction). Well at least in the base game. Winter of the Wolf very optional.

An insect RTS game. Take control of bases and order them to produce one of three types of units from that base, then order those units to capture the enemies base. Simple, good fun. Five different base types for a total of 15 different units. Getting it to work might be impossible, but if you get it to work its 100 levels of varying fun and challenge.

Sci-fi comedy RTS that features over the top graphics like guys getting exploded into the air. Largely another base control game but its humour is good, its challenge is mostly fair and it can be a blast watching the soldiers fight.

It's another one of those early 3D RTS games with average pathing and clear influences from Command and Conquer, but it's still an entry worth listing that surprisingly few people know about. It's the Army Men series! Y'know, green plastic soldiers?

If you haven't actually played this game you are seriously missing out. It's a game about combining animals into super animals to act as your army. Whales with rhino horns. Vultures with scorpion tails. Lobster clawed hyenas. There's also at least one mod that pretty much doubles the number of monsters in it.

I haven't played it since Windows XP, but some fucker got it to instantly work on WINE. If anyone can figure out how to get it to run and to play at a playable speed, please respond.
I have been passing this thing from computer to computer for literal years and I don't want this ever to be lost.
It's only 8mb and its probably not a virus.

Wish Rise of nations comabat was deeper, or more engaging at least. Not autistic levels of micro but better than what it is. What a comfy game to play, I love civ type games where you advance in age, RoN combined that with RTS. Wish they made a sequel or better yet I wish I had the brainpower and skill to make my own RoN sequel

Where is the follow up pic where the French dude gets robbed and raped by an ethnic and his bread gets stolen.

Bad game.

Mechanically not great, but I wouldn't say bad.

Iron Harvest Gameplay

I don't like masterofrolfness

Attached: vicious dog.webm (640x360, 3.78M)

He's right though. I gave it a try some time ago and couldn't stand it past the 3rd-4th mission. It took me a fuckton of units just to take down one enemy jeep while the same fucking jeep could take down one of my tanks by itself, sometimes even more.

Looks like a poor mans Company of Heroes and plays like a basic as fuck RTS aside from the Inf cover.

Attached: Modern Gayman.mp4 (854x480, 809.91K)

did you also notice the grenade drops from dead grenade troops? grenades seem to be very strong

I did
I also noticed the extremely low number of units and the mortar units.

I think that's because masterofrolfness just sucks at RTS in general, the mortars seemed like it didn't really do much

Hmmm

Sounds good to me, don´t know what you are bitching about

I'm not. I said they namedropped it, as in poking fun at kikes.

Kill yourself nigger.

Has anyone played Syrian Warfare? Might be RTT more than RTS. Couldn't get into it the first time I tried it, but the second time everything clicked and its heaps of fun. Until the "rescue the pilot" mission which is just tedious. It triggers good goyim and rewards tactical gameplay. You keep your surviving units between missions and they gain veterancy. Supposedly mod tools are coming soon. I want to add Assad in a helicopter dropping chemical barrel bombs on bakery-hospitals full of children.

I liked it it was pretty fun.

So some threads ago I was posting about this idea I was toying around with to set notC&C4 during the Napoleonic wars, but with tech that would span from their own age all the way to twenty minutes into the future. Now, assuming that the Japanese faction is dropped for the Aztec one (which I am growing fond of because it would be visually appealing and easy to tell apart, a la huge Yuri head and conscript statues), and assuming that the other two battalions are the Entente and the Britbong Coalition, what kind of units would best fit each? Is there some gimmick not explored in previous titles that you'd rather see more of?

I can't get over how worthless they are in Kane's Wrath
Well maybe they were useless in Vanilla too but they at least seemed efficient enough in Nod's first mission

It's more on how easy it is to kill infantry in KW VS how much they cost what makes them as useless as they are. Shadow Teams with their Detpacks fufill their purpose along with being able to get away or infiltrate a base that lacks AA.

yeah they're worthless

I'd say you raised the bar if you posted download links.

Because I'm a lazy faggot, I'm not gonna do what the other user did and just post cover, screenshots and download link. It's up to you to add this shit to your backlog and check it out
especially that I expect all I post to be added into the actually good, non-cuckchenned list of RTSes mentioned in the OP and many titles I post are recent discoveries for me

I remember when that site was absolute shit. It's slowly grew into a decent resource over time.

Are you the user from last thread posting obscure RTS?

Thanks for the Mega user, I hope it's dolphin porn.

Ever tried Rise of Legends?

I had to shut that down immediately since the guy sounded like a faggot.

So Mental Omega?

I think a few people got butthurt over infantry rushes hence the easy to kill infantry.

Battlecry one is the only one in that series with a proper single player story campaign so it's worth a look. 2 is a dark crusade conquer the map one territory at a time deal. 3 reuses the map from 2 but has more of a roving adventure vibe with a hacked together story. 3 ended the series with a total of 16 races. Also in spite of being fairly generic it's got some metal as fuck artwork.

men of war

fairly reasonable actually, although >more tactices, less economny more strategy/tactics in general

that's such a blanket statement tbh

I posted one.
The rest you'll have to acquire on your own. You can usually get torrents for them pretty easy, but you can also get them all between Steam and GoG if you prefer that path. There is an open source version of Z called the Zod Engine.

I don't think so. I just wanted to share some of the games I love and bring some talking points. Also keeping Swarm Assault alive.

I actually don't like this.

You know I was expecting cancer. I was pleasantly surprised. Nice to know that there are faggots out there that understand that SP>MP in the RTS genre whether they will listen to polls is another matter

Attached: SodokoMakoyurihug.gif (533x300, 2.94M)

Daemons best race.

I never got into Battelcry.
I still like to play Warlords 3 - Darklord Rising with Stonehelm and K4 Units and even sometimes 1 and 2 though.

May I ask why? It was very novel in dawn of war. Being able to blast craters into the map for units to take cover in would be nice.

Daemon paladin. Though there is a special place for fey drowning the world in spriggan dick after researching a bunch of bonus xp for new recruits.

Stormheim…. man, what is with my brain today.

Grew up with 1, never finished 3 because reasons. 4 was just recycled battlecry assets and tears.

Attached: Warlords.png (640x400 11.35 KB, 9.52K)

If Swarm Assault works I'll add it to OP next time.

I don't think the sp>mp is best, it's good but for RTS it really depends on the game mechanics tbh, I'd argue that supreme commanders sp is rather boring while aom is really good

Unfortunately user I never played Warlords Battlecry 1 or 2. Funnily enough, I only played 3 because I had a physical copy, one of the broken ones where ranged units would always shoot in the same spot instead having varying aim, meaning if you were next to a tower and it missed you, it would perpetually miss you until you moved, and troll rings were the only item that randomly dropped. I had to download a patch. Those were the days.

I prefer the "summoners summoning daemons summoning imps" technique.

Undead were the best, best voice acting too when upgrading your skellies into doom knights.

Shame they never had a patch that made archer units useful. Elven moonguard was easily the most shit general in the whole game. Forest lord was also the most shit titan due to being a bow user as well.

I need to make a mental note to add these to OP.

You know what was really neat? cnc3 Tibwars having different AI personalities. As one site put it…

Balanced AI - Your normal AI that mixes defense, expanding bases, and assaults equally. Quite challenging and will fight until the bitter end. Medium Base defenses.

Turtle AI - An AI that will focus on fortifying its base and will also expand quickly to fortify those positions as well, while building a massive army in their base. Turtles can be difficult if not taken out quickly, as their assaults are huge and ultimately deadly. Heavy Base defenses.

Rusher AI - This AI will send in low tier units in very early in battle and continue with low tier assaults, eventually sending in tougher high tier units. Rushers tend to use their resources to build quick light assaults to batter your base down to size. Little Base defenses.

Geurilla AI - The adaptable AI, Geurilla AI will send in low tier suicide assaults to figure out your bases units and defenses, and will build accordingly to defeat it. Sometimes in their suicide runs, they'll sneak an Engineer to capture your buildings and use your technology against you. Geurilla AI is the most challenging for Single Play and is a dangerous foe to battle. Medium Base defenses.

Steamroller AI - Steamroller AI will always either send in constant assaults or low and high tier units, or will quickly basebuild up to their superweapon to send in high tier units very early in game. If you don't take this AI out quickly, you'll find yourself in a frantic defense against large amounts of high tier units and getting blasted by their superweapons. Little Base defenses.

I'm sold

that's nothing new

The only real issue with C&C3 is that the feeling was off, I'd say there wasn't enough weight to the units. It actually isn't a bad game when you go back and play it and there's plenty of fun stuff to do. Units just don't have much personality to them and nothing seems to have that oomph to it. Artstyle is another factor but that has been debated to hell and back.

It's basically a mod of MegaGlest. It's gameplay is a bit dated but if you are used to Tiberian Sun or Red Alert 2 you should be in comfortable territory. Think there is a mod that adds a new faction for it as well.

There hasn't been much new it RTS in a looooooong time. I just find it disappointing that more RTS games don't have more varied AI personality options beyond easy, medium, hard and cheating.

Hell even warlords battlecry 2 and 3 had specialized AI's for the different races.

I think the last properly good RTS I can think of was R.U.S.E. which was criminally underrated but suffered due to a lack of both map and modding support.

I don't know about that, I'd argue that a fun RTS hasn't come out in a long time

My problem wasn't so much with the art or the units felling like they packed a punch. So much as it was EA bailing out early without getting the balance right and fixing things like fanatics being useless. They were doing better with kanes wrath but they never did quite get things just right and even managed to patch-fuck their own AI to death with their retarded balance catering to e-sport faggots.

Infantry look like get just hosed down because its a squad now instead of one guy. It's probably more realistic, but its not fun, especially after Tiberium Sun where things had big health bars and RA2 where there were really good infantry units. They go splat real quick even compared to Generals.

Fun RTS games don't get made because DOTA poisoned the well for the genre. But again this is nothing new and for the most part these threads are more about reminiscing than anything.

Attached: MoK_Myrmidon_and_Friends.jpg (1208x989, 549.22K)

Remember it's all about getting into that e-sports pie :^)

Might be the fact everything was so fast as well. Some infantry units moved like they were on cocaine.

They all look sad.

nah it wasn't dota, it was starcraft2 that opened it up to getting poisoned from other kinda cancers

Dota and Starcraft, user.
The idea that every RTS had to be esports also killed the genre, when the RTS games that were seen as esports only got there because they had excellent campaigns and gameplay that people loved to play in the first place, and had a desire to test their skills against each other.
If you don't have a good campaign, you don't have single player appeal (or a decent tutorial, which is what a campaign can also be used for), and if you don't have good gameplay there's no appeal to play the game past the campaign.

Is there anything it doesn't kill? Quality/Fun gaming and "pro" sports just do not fucking mix. I mean how many more games have to fucking die before they stop chasing this garbage.

Sad but fashionable. Also wtf were the game designers thinking when they made upgrading the avatar require sacrificing other expensive ass units? I mean wtf? You are already wasting time doing micro on other things and now you've both wasted your time and made your expensive unit only marginally more useful and a lot more costly.

LOOK OUT CONSUMER! {game x} is going to be the next dota/starcraft/moba killer!

The dichotomy between supcom1 and 2 is a good illustration of how that kind of pandering can ruin a game. Literally all they had to do was remake the first game with better graphics and more units and people would have been happy.

they thought they had a cool idea that could be an interesting mechanic only for it to turn out to be useless and silly

Attached: Saboteur.jpg (788x400, 37.57K)

I just realized now that the Nod Announcer has the same voice actor as a Jedi Master (Forgot the name) in KOTOR II

...

Indeed. Most of the mods out there usually scrap it in favor of a pay to upgrade mechanic. It almost could have worked if they had either streamlined the process (like combining buzzers with scrin vehicles) and/or given you more for the sacrifice (like additional HP or dmg).

Actually i fuck up the announcer From Command and Conquer 3: Tibrium Wars same va of the jedi master in KOTOR II

If it was salvaging wrecks it would have made more sense.

esports isn't inherently bad.
It generates competition, gathers communities, adds stakes, gives purpose in a way.
But making a game in pursuit of esports is very bad.

user I don't think you got your symbols correct.

Or when you lose 40 Stanks?

–your head–
–the joke–

Only that purpose is either a cash prize or a shiney bunch of pixels next to ones name or avatar. Competitiveness can exist outside of an esport game, as can communities and even stakes. Its just that trinkets and money bring it faster, but without a regard to fun.

Remember the good ol' days when sneaking aspy into an enemy barracks/warfactory made your units get built with vetrenacy? When infiltrating a radar structure reset the fog? When infiltrating a refinery stole credits? When getting an engineer into an enemy tech center gave you unlockable units that used stolen tech?

Pepperidge farms remembers.

I largely agree with what you're saying, I've just found that in this digital age it is substantially easier to connect, communicate and share, and esports is an easy way to amass a large crowd to a single sitting.
Everyone gets to see tricks, share tech and try out new metagame strategies and tactics while testing their skills. It educates the less-good players and can help push the boundaries of the game wider.

In the Context of our conversation Lord Bane is one of the Four Horsemen in the Warlords Series.
Forgotten Realms Bane and Batman Bane are only slightly related I think.

You do realize that the investment goes down the drain if someone wises up and uses walls+rocket infantry in their defense, right?

Enjoy.

There's some of it in Tiberian Dawn if I recall though it's more a case of gaining access to units that were meant to be available to a faction but are locked. Also it depends on the game version.

For example Nod had to acquire GDI tech to produce Apaches and SSM's.
If Nod or GDI caps each others factories the following units became crossfaction:

can't find the shortened version only including the stank failiure but at least i've got this

think I remember something like that

Attached: the_butthurt_begins.webm (640x360, 1.06M)

Counterstrike also had an interesting bug that if you played Paradox Equation then quit out and played Skirmish all the altered unit states would be in skirmish i.e. Light Tanks turned into Heavy Tanks, Heavy Tanks turning into Tesla Tanks etc.

I actually think that the camo pillbox is a great design point. It's pseudo stealth that rewards attentive players.
More units should utilize this in RTS games.

...

Someone should draw Stank-chan getting spanked by Pillbox-chan

Wrong.
In Multiplayer Nod had APCs, MLRS, and Chinooks for balance reasons. You didn't need to crosscap for them, and Apaches came with the Airpad for Nod and the SSM was unlocked with a comm center and an obelisk.

I never understood that in MP. GDI doesn't get an artillery unit but after they get the Tech3 Advanced Comms which has the Airstrike and Ion Cannon Support Powers and MRLS design. Meanwhile Nod has Flame tanks, Artillery, Stealth Tanks, Obelisk and better infantry by just getting their standard Tech2 Radar and it gets worse once they build an Obelisk because the SSM outranges everything and one-shots MRLS and other artilleries.

Medium tanks suck dick vs swarms of Light Tanks in a cost-efficiency manner and Mammoths aren't worth it even if they only require a Repair Pad to be built, the only advantage GDI had was the fact that they had that ridiculeously powerful engi+APC rush but even Nod gets them that too in MP.

Actually I was calling stuff that could be built from a facility that normally shouldn't be.
Nod could call in stuff like Medium Tanks from Airstrips since in early versions of the game Nod actually could build Medium Tanks. GDI could build Light Tanks from the Factory. SSM's were not buildable in PC version Singleplayer but could be built funny enough in the console versions.

Fucking what? Every single unit has its own voice and personality, while everything before RA2 was the same 3-4 voices with like 7 lines each for every unit.
Also many units do pack a lot of punch to them. You'd be surprised at how much detail has been put into sound design and animations.

I agree with that user, though. Like, they had "personality" that was distinctive - but it all felt too generic.

never played counterstrike tbh

I enjoyed it. And it's good enough for people or at least that on emadman to care as much for it to make a patch that makes it run on modern systems.

it did, but I'd bet it's IPX-based.

Well if it has LAN capability then you can use a tunnler like Evolve or Hamachi

Generic how? They all had their own identity and you could point out each one just by hearing one line. They had specific quotes for being selected, quotes for moving, quotes for attacking when out of range, quotes for attacking when in range, quotes for being selected while in combat, quotes for when they're ordered to retreat, quotes that they themselves say when fighting enemies, quotes for abilities, quotes for dying, and a bunch of other shit. Are you telling me you didn't remember a single one of them?

The creepy Nod Saboteurs?
The arrogant, greedy Avatars?
The GDI Commando in general?

Hell, the GDI Sniper Team is the biggest example of how much work they put into it. It's a unit composed of just 2 dudes, a marksman and a spotter. Each one has his own lines for everything I've mentioned above; the guy with the rifle is cool composed, but starts losing his patience when under attack. If he dies and the spotter is the only one left in the squad, the unit's quotes are entirely replaced with his voice, where he sounds scared and shaken from seeing his friend die in combat. That's 2 units' worth of voice acting for 1 unit, and it's not even that much used.

And let's not even get into the sound design they made for the Scrin units.

I don't think I would want to add more than 3-4 super powers total, but I was thinking of adding weapons and buildings that looked like stylized versions of your typical Victorian-age and Aztec shit, yet with some tacticool and modern age twist to them, so for example, the conscript unit for the Aztecs would come out of giant stone heads, armored Redcoats, maybe the French could pilot some early historical tanks, shit like that.

TS/FS will always be my favorite C&C game but tib wars & kane's wrath doesn't get enough appreciation I'd say. It just felt rushed in some ways, missing content that feels like it should've had from the start [spoiler]haha oh wait EA was in charge of it just like tiberian sun of course they rushed it out with half the content missing

You have to go back

Post went through too early and I didn't notice. Oh well! I'm retarded, what can you do

I'd say they were trying way too hard to be red alert 2 or generals and it's out of place in a super serious setting that's Tiberium

thanks for fucking up my posts as well

People give Tiberium Wars/Kane's Wrath shit solely for the fact that EA published it, despite the fact that EA has published every single C&C game except Tiberian Dawn.

People also seem to forget that C&C 3 had Westwood developers in it, and were also the same dev team who've made Zero Hour, which is why it still turned out so good even with EA's kikery.

RA2 and Generals weren't even made by Westwood anyway.
I feel you're just trying to grasp at straws looking for a reason to hate on the game, dude.

Attached: 1467769008466.png (1130x900, 22.11K)

By the way
C&C 3 had the most serious atmosphere in a C&C game since Tiberian Sun.

RA2 was made by Westwood, but they were owned by EA at the time.

oh I've plenty of reason to hate Tib wars but no those two games were CO-developed by westwood Pacific and take a guess who, just for them to be renamed later as EA pacific

nah nothing of the same tone as Tib sun, they gave a personality to everything when in actual should have been fairly monotone and beak

for example

The people who made RA2 were originally called Burst Studios. They were bought from Virgin Interactive by EA along with the actual Westwood studios and were renamed into Westwood Pacific before developing the game, while the actual Westwood studio only helped in in some minor parts of development. Then they were both merged together and became EA Pacific, which was then merged with EALA, who, all together, developed C&C 3.

Tiberian Dawn was far from monotone and bleak with its funky music and unit screams, doesn't mean it was bad. It was just that Westwood decided to make Tiberian Sun a bleak game on itself, rather than making the rest of the series bleak from then on. Still, the ones that remained kept the bleak atmosphere around, which you would certainly notice when playing it.
Or are you saying having the same 3-4 voices saying the same yes sir/you got it/on my way/acknowledged lines over and over again for every single unit?

None of the units in tibsun were "monotone" save for cyborgs. You oughta get your ears checked.

west woods original staff completely left at the end of generals

Tiberian dawn is still portrayed as serious, it's almost something like naive as well.

an accent is not a quirky hamming it up character.

Does this look bleak to you?

And C&C 3 isn't? That'd pretty cherrypicky.

Meant to post this video

When would you like to play, user?

C&C 3 seemed like it wanted to be bleak and rather desolate setting but it comes off as bland as well as over the top. I don't get your point of posting anything to do with Tib [redacted] that was just trash through and through which doesn't make Tib wars look good in comparison either.

Ok.

Attached: WW C&C 3 (3)

now lets look at what it's like in game, oh look it's not a photoshop wonderland

Attached: harvester.jpg (1600x1000 413.5 KB, 477.87K)

Attached: 136385522447.jpg (500x392 721.67 KB, 48.6K)

The blue & yellow zones in the game, especially the city maps felt pretty bland but once you get into the red zones with those sweet as fuck glaciers you finally get the good stuff you want out of the game. Firestorm's heavy use of tiberium flora and lifeforms was so damn aesthetic that it was the only thing I wanted more of in C&C 3. Too bad they didn't really give us much of that

now for tib sun for comparison

I wouldn't mind the glaciers if they weren't the only fucking feature on most maps

Attached: Vegetation.gif (368x344 932.47 KB, 135.75K)

If I really must educate you on this, a bleak setting doesn't have to blot out the fucking Sun and make everything dark to be bleak. Bleak and grimdark are two different things.

Attached: ss_cfbf661309858bdd91145a1ce82815abd9582d06.1920x1080.jpg (1600x1194 123.75 KB, 550.84K)

For the sake of interest/datamining, what is your favorite mission type in RTS games?
I always liked those where your initial starting location was overrun by a vastly superior force, but the game gave you the means to smuggle away some of your construction units, rebuild elsewhere, and take back your home invade the invaders right back.

yes that's exactly my point.

Attached: kw2.jpg (1280x1024 431.35 KB, 238.67K)

Man, such a bright sunny day in this lil Red Zone huh? Such a nice neighborhood to take a stroll around; Tiberium glaciers eating up buildings, that sweet air pumped with so much Tib particulate that it turned green, thunderstorms around the clock…

==Hold the line=
I like defensive missions, ones where some defenses have already been built but you need to build the rest. Getting rid of the opponent is probably a secondary objective in that you only need to defend the place long enough.

Hold the line
One day while I'm not sleep deprived I'll get it right.

Just listen to these calm, welcoming tunes from the Tiberium wastelands! Such a nice ambience to live in, right?
Oh but naaah, it's not "Tiberian Sun" enough, so it's baaad.

Gimme a fucking break dude.

I don't think you understand my point at this stage, Tib wars design is bland and over the top with units that are quirky that ham it up. maps are literally colour washed with a primary colour with the variety being your units or the opponents. this isn't the case in any of the other games bar generals

Attached: Arena_M mega.png (1280x720 512.42 KB, 137.53K)

Start you out in a place with moderate/low resources but enough to get you an army and enough intel and terrain opportunities to have choice between many ways on how to take on your enemy's stronghold. Think Nod mission 4 on Tiberian Sun, where you're given many ways on how to assault the fortifications surrounding Hassan's temple.

I did not mean to link in

Please stop this autistic argument.

Attached: 1453171844723.jpg (500x500, 71.97K)

Scarce resources & overwhelming odds with constant barrage of units from the enemy is the tightest shit. Usually not seen too much in official maps but its not uncommon to find some player made stuff which is hell bent on being disgustingly unfair and punishing in this fashion.

Attached: 8b7fb2a977b95668fd37c1a8adda9635d308bf0fd93ad24fac70af7f8f637041.jpg (1280x800, 486.1K)

I've told fags to stop replying to Wolfspider's bullshit since forever but it seems like nobody's wise enough to ID filter the fucking autist.

What's even your point? You're just being so general in these criticisms that they don't actually carry any point.
You call Tib Wars bland while most of Tiberian Sun's maps are fucking brown, and sometimes white, as if it weren't color washed (which is what you usually do when you want a bleak setting and not a colorful carnival of a game).

dude Tib sun maps have lush colour in them and are not saturated in it

That's because unless you rush the fuck out of everything the AI gives up and can't do shit to you once you're turtled enough so from there it's just tedious cleanup, add to that the fact that's there's some map with starting situations that are way too hard for their own good and you get a shit difficulty balance that isn't fun to play in any way, and that's forgetting some of the atrocious SC1 SP missions that don't give you proper tech levels for the job the ask of you.
The SCFA campaign AI mod is quite a step up, especially if you also have some sort of modded AI and the campaign mod enabler which for some reason seem to make the campaign AI more intense, it would still need a few things to be truly great like the AI straight up starting to shit out waves of experimentals and T3 Arty / Nuke once the timer goes over 40 min.

They're brown. Every fucking thing in Tiberian Sun is drenched in brown tones, from the majority of the maps, to 3D renders, to cutscenes, to the menus, to the goddamn cover art. Are you seriously trying to deny that?

good AI is something RTS really needs but hardly ever gets nowerdays, goes to show the state of the genre.

nah this is TRrenames autism showing

are you trying to "no u" me?

Attached: command-conquer-tiberian-sun-wallpaper-21.jpg (1024x640, 147.97K)

No, I'm telling you the truth. In fact, I see more variety in any other C&C game.

Literally who?

lets compare again then, here's the first mission of Tib sun

first mission of Tib wars

some faggot who played planetside 2 in the /wwew/ squad, he regularly shits up the site

Green tiberium glowing in a brown map. Not unlike some C&C 3 missions but of course you'll ignore all the following C&C 3 missions that happen at blue zone cities with clean waters, arid desert-like yellow zones, dark Tiberium-infested red zones, missions during the night, during rain, during thunderstorms, etc. just to push your anecdote.

You guys could just start a C&C thread and bitch there.

Ah, I see those faggots are still shitting up the place then.

look I'm not saying the game is bad, I do intend just have alot of little nitpicks with it that mostly amount to cunts who's first C&C game it is thinking it's better then it really is.

he has a nice little group of fuckers who play on every regular 8ch servers as well

Attached: 68253.jpg (896x456, 62.18K)

Well there are other games to talk about for sure. Post some of your goddamn castles anons

Attached: SHC5.jpg (1024x767 576.1 KB, 661.76K)

I never said either game was bad either but I've seen way too many cunts shit on Tiberium Wars for the silliest of reasons, mostly because it didn't have Westwood's brand on the cover. I personally hold Dawn, Sun and Wars as the holy trilogy of the whole franchise, but I too can see flaws in them. But seriously now Tiberium Wars does have atmosphere, but just because it wasn't Tiberian Sun, doesn't mean it was bad.

Hey guise, can I play too???

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (1050x510, 1.37M)

sure a bland atmosphere

Your opinion, man.

Is there a site or something that has build orders for Kane's Wrath?

I've seen nothing other then professional matches

C&C 3 has some pretty neat multiplayer going on. Anyone know the reason why it never got popular? There are tons of videos with a fairly high view counts but it's mostly untouched and forgotten especially on the streaming side of things

EA didn't support it long enough and shit the bed with [redacted]

Attached: TD_MCV_Guide_Scan.jpg (640x475, 100.74K)

Same reason no RTS game ever gets popular for multiplayer, other than Starcraft: Because of Starcraft.

That said, yeah. Kane's Wrath has some amazingly hype multiplayer, and the community's full of banter.

...

TBH Starcraft isn't even popular (in the sense of making money) for MP outside of Korea. EA made a completely boneheaded mistake of trying to beat Blizzard in a market that wasn't even profitable for Blizzard. Even if they managed to make a game every bit as good as SC2 AND somehow market it to SC2 players enough to make half of them switch to C&C3 AND get all the sponsers for teams and shit in, they'd still be losing a shit ton of money.

What are the best mods for Zero Hour?
Contra
Rise of the Reds
Cold War Crisis
Shockwave
Something Else?

Attached: 1462198676787.jpg (439x400, 44.81K)

Starcraft almost single handedly popularized MP focus on RTS games and everything that came with it (pros, gooks, pro gooks, rabid pro gook bootlickers, esports, etc.) and ultimately got EA's attention because they thought it was making money, and C&C 3 suffered for it.

Operation Firestorm
Zero Hour Reborn
N Project
Zero Hour Retarded
Crazy mod
Blitzkrieg II: The Finest Hour
A Global Crisis (that one got ported over to C&C3 IIRC)
Vietnam Glory Obscured
Tiberian Dawn Redux
and that one mod that restored cut content

Attached: 15433488309854142464_screenshots_2013-07-18_00001.jpg (1280x960, 375.29K)

Why bother making high quality games and putting effort into keeping them alive? It'll never gain the popularity in the end anyway.

Here's a shitty f2p flavor of the month clone of a different equally shitty flavor of the month game that took no effort to make and manages to get streamers like this blue-haired fairy with +90k views doing fuck all. Good fucking luck encouraging devs to make a good rts or any game for that matter after realizing where the real money is.

Attached: noice.jpg (350x251, 34.69K)

So when are we going to have a Spanking RTS Tournament?

There's actually going to be a non-RTS tournament in the next month or so, currently it's a secret project so no spoilers.
If you haven't worked it out already /radcorp/ has a large crossover with the RTS thread.

Attached: elsa4.jpg (1670x1060, 261.03K)

It's more a case that the /rts/ thread gets shit done unlike other threads on Holla Forums

Pretty much the case yeh, honestly one of the best threads on Holla Forums.

what some fun things to do in AoE III?

what are*

When you get on the DTA lobby for some games.

i've heard great things about uninstalling it

Map Editor. Not kidding, you can do a lot of fun stuff making custom scenarios on it.

No exaggeration user, RA3 was bland and badly designed despite trying to up the ante of craziness. Each faction progresses in the exact same manner and pretty much at the same rate.
The differences between factions at that point are pretty damn small and uninteresting

Download in mega

Thanks for the mega link, i missed it before

I got stuck in the rabbit hole that are korean RTSes. for Christ's sake, they just keep coming

Attached: Cy4axl0UUAEVjLv.jpg (1200x720, 255.17K)

Thing about two is they softened up some of the units. Where in 1 you could have Gondorian Swordsman go up against Uruks and they do some damage but get killed, if you did that in 2, they'd just lose flat out. It's very much a weapons triangle but throwing in fodder and having decent archers gets you through 8/10 of the times. Don't like that to be honest, if I'm gonna attack move to a target, I want at least some units to survive.

Man i wish i could say something but i played it so long ago that i dont remember the meta at all
Gotta replay that and CnC3 if torrents still have seeds that is

Tell me if you can't get it working man.

Atrox, that apparent starcraft knock off, isn't anything to write home about.

Sure

Twenty years from now, people will be still playing Red Alert and Age of Empires via sheer autism alone, while these online-only streamerbait games wither away. Making something good is never for today, but for tomorrow. How many people will be willing to maintain shit like Fortnite or Overwatch? For all we know, the only game that followed these ones' path but will survive for a long time still is TF2.

And making low hanging fruit is the opposite, hence why they're gonna be shat out periodically, mutating to the newest fads as they come and go, forever.

You misunderstand, the goal of these devs is to make as much money with as little effort as fast as possible. This streamer bait fotm garbage is exactly that. They will sacrifice their chances of making a high quality game for a high profit game and fortnite was just a good example for that. Didn't some sort of UT game get cancelled because of this? Anyway, rts games aren't anywhere near as popular and requires far more effort to make a decent one so I doubt we'll see any major releases any time soon

I see the point you're trying to make, but a) this really isn't much different from previous CNC titles, and b) each faction still has its own niche

Rag on RA3 all you want but their cutscenes are kino

Was also one of the last things Tim did before his stroke.

Only because they managed to get Tim Curry.
And that qt. grill who plays Yuriko

This is downright sad if you still remember Dr. Frankensteiner.

imdb.com/name/nm2311982/
She's done a few minor things.

The implementation of controls is also very poor user. You can't single order the EMP missile from cruisers, for example. You have to manually select them individually. Same with Akula subs I think.

Anyone ever notice his right eye's clearly looking at the prompt but his left is looking at the camera?
That's pretty impressive.

I think you mean a Stanking RTS Tournament

Did everybody forget stronghold? Not exactly 100% rts but still a great game

Attached: SH3.jpg (1024x768 639.69 KB, 641.79K)

No they were not, they were shit, combine it with waifubait, retarded story breaking its own lore and numerous other shitty things and you have turd supreme that is RA3
Id say its the 2nd worst game in whole CnC series

What is the most casual RTS you have ever played and why

Not counting RTT?
Battle for Middle Earth 2?
Any game that primarily uses hard-counters.

C&C1 and Red Alert 2's cutscenes were much better, but 3 still holds some charm because PERLU HARBORU? and the absurdly sexy for a 3DPD assistants. Also Tim's performance was really good, but nowhere as good as RA1's Stalin.

But we aren't doing that for a job, right?

The last stand is my favorite RTS

Why is the only mention of TA in here related to Spring?

The best I can say about RA3 is they tried to do something with the humour. They utterly dropped the ball on the RTS side of it though, the game doesn't even trust you to play by yourself!

Attached: 1441036071832.webm (320x240, 1.98M)

Honestly, I'd like more co-op RTS. It was fun with a friend.

You're at the fields of green, and this guy harvests your crystals. What do you do?

Attached: The beautiful glow.jpg (537x720, 165.26K)

Send in some pitbulls and predators with the railgun upgrade?

...

Is there any reason to use diggers, stealth or flyers and other crap?
I'm talking about a creature that gets boosts to attack and defense while already being fairly strong (wolf) and resistant (ram).
Otherwise, great game.

Can Wolframs hit flying?

The co-op and alternate utility mechanics were really cool, you can tell the devs had a lot of fun programming the Empire units. It was also really great to see naval warfare being taken into higher consideration, but half of the mechanics fall apart after a few games (YOU NEED ENGINEER?) and they ruined the balance of the game by making certain units that were purposefully useless and gimmicky into multi-purpose shit. In the end they wanted to pander to both the Generals crowd and the Red Alert crowd and they didn't satisfy either. I mean, I like my RTSs fast paced, at least.

What the fuck

Attached: 0220b05f4c298901c8a533f126ddc985b13aa89239fb92c131077e377a8ed181.jpeg (640x789, 76.75K)

Shit.
Later in the campaign I'm gonna need something with either Herd or Pack that can fly.
Otherwise, I'm probabbly gonna specialize flyers into damage and send Rhino's crossbred for maximum armour + HP to soak up damage.

The expansion was especially cancer.

Ah who knows, there's probably something.

You're a retard.
The cutscenes in tiberian sun clearly show how fanatic and outspoken both GDI and Nod combatants were.

Rts are harry potter of videogames

yeah the vols/bo have been shit as of late

which cut scenes?

pchote if i finish those are we going to add them to openra? sleipnirstuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=83&p=306925#306925 Title: Sleipnir's Stuff :: View topic - New civ buildings on the works for openra I don't like the idea of adding new assets to the base game why is that? there are several first off, it aggrevates what is already an unhappy copyright situation secondly it dilutes the original game and in many cases (i'm not necessarily saying it applies here) the quality is noticably different, meaning that they don't integrate well copy right with who? you mean EA games? also there is a desert tile set on ra and a jungle tileset for td so i think we are passed the point of staying true to the original (decoretion wise) from the original game we have, but making it worse doesnt help also if you are talking about copyright issues about those asset, i made them so we are ok ok but in the video scenes of the game, you can clearly see that there are citys involved in the war, so i think this could be an improvement considering that there is already one city building added to the game the game itself wasnt set in cities though yes but that dosnt mean they dint want to add that at some point, i mean there is always a time line when you make games sure, look at ts/ra2 as we can see in red alert 2 for example yea to be honest take a look at some user maps that are using the only one city building that exist in ra multiple times so they can make a city like map, the problem is that they end up adding the same building over and over again, so having more buildings is going to be a better solution for them, and i am sure the players will appreciate this, dont you think? players would appreciate many things that are not realistic projects need to define boundaries on what they are willing to include is not realistic to have city buildings tho? not in the sense of project management, no so red alert 2 and tiberian sun is unrealistic is that what you are saying? i'm not talking about in-game realism

why not just call it for what it is - a FEMA camp

What fucking mod is that

I want to say it's this mod

moddb.com/mods/shattered-paradise/images/scrin-ship

but I'm not entirely sure

The future is FEMA fam. :^)

Pretty much this, what really grinds me gear is that he used the "muh copyright" as a excuse for not adding more assets, if it were such a huge deal then C&C overall would have hardly any mods at all. At least OpenRA is gud for modding stuff in it, too bad that making missions is a pain in the butt, because they thought it would be "great" to use lua scripting for that, instead of using bunch of trigger placement and other stuff in the map editor.

Also I just finished doing a medium play through of the Soviet campaign both RA 2 and the expansion of it. It was not too shabby but it was a bit underwhelming since I didn't had to put much thought how to deal with it. I find it weird that the 6th YR soviet mission was more hard since it took me 3 attempts to finish it, I ended it up using only apocalypse tank and cosmonauts to destroy the base. The 7th mission wasn't really much of a challenge since all I did was build up the economy and the defense, go to the left and right side of the map to get rid of the meat grinder and for bonus shekels. Then I sieged the soviet base and rush b to the PSI emitter and from there I launched the attack to Yuri castle, also for some reason there was a lot of unused siege chopper which I put it into use to destroy the left side of the yuri base, to cripple his defense.

I feel like playing the GDI now in Tiberian Sun but the fact that it has some mech units triggers my autism. Meh I guess I need to figure doing a voxel only replacement then, no stat change.

I want 18th and 19th century warfare, is Cossacks the best game for this?
If yes, do I play 1 or 2?

Attached: 1438745541637.jpg (2000x1083, 1.28M)

Yes and you play 1 or American Conquest which I personally recommend over Cossacks 1
Cossacks 2 is more centered around regimental fighting than basebuilding and high amounts of unit recruitment
You could also play Cossacks 3(D) if you want better graphics and some QoL stuff

Don't do this to me, please.

Thanks, I'll get the first one then.

Probably because it was largely overlooked when it came out and kind of bland to bad honestly when it came to gameplay.

RA3 caused Tim his stroke.

Apparently someone is in a butthurt crusade against Generals and also the RTS thread. a.k.a. cuckchan is flooding the board.

Considering they already raped OpenRA to hell and back what the fuck does that even mean?

Fog of war alone fucks those missions up to the point they become unplayable since they were not designed for fog of war.

What about a Mech in a wheelchair?

Clearly you need anti-spank units :^)

farseer a shit

also has anyone here played Surviving Mars?

You know when it's reversing it looks like it's giving a pelvic thrust.

So i installed Swarm Assault and it works just fine
Except my colors are fucked up a little bit, i tried running it in 256 colors only and in WinXP compatibility mode but it still doesn't work

I found colors are fine but the game runs sluggish.

Surprisingly the dev page is still up

and now the game no longer works after I tried playing wtih compatibility settings. Absolute wew.

Try to run in with comparability of Win98

Funny enough doing that is what made the game unplayable. Even when I turned it off

Dont worry, i tried to take a screenshot showing off my colors, well the screenshot came out worse than i thought

i like the idea of powersuit / exosuited mechs because I like Bubblegum Crisis

Attached: constanza pillbox.png (457x422, 13.32K)

I like them because they feel more like a bulkier metal humanoid, an extension of it's user than a contraption/vehicle.

so draw more of them fagitlordo

City buildings are not okay but cancerous Yak meta and ALLIED HINDS are fine and don't dilute the original game whatsoever.
Can't someone someone make a branch of OpenRA without cancer already?

it's called dawn of the tiberium age

speaking of wolverines I'm glad they changed the design of them

That's not even the titan. The titan from C&C 4 was a straight carbon copy of the one from Kane's Wrath.

Yes he is. He used to shit up SS13 threads as well before he got banned and ban evaded once again.

that's rather apt

no that was TRrename

Attached: use_the_frag_by_swirekster-d33b0c1.jpg (900x745, 155.21K)

Nigger you're still lowercase tbhposting everywhere and you are now blaming other people for your fuckups? Just get out of here, you already put the thread on bumplimit with your bullshit.

With the risk of derailing the thread, what did he do in the SS13 threads to get banned?
because if you haven' noticed all of this is banter

Attached: Humans1.jpg (768x432, 48.28K)

Pretty much what he's doing right now
Eg: Either create drama or do as many low-effort shitposts as quickly as possible to drum up post count and kill the thread as quickly as possible. Used to go by the ckey Chaosyourgod and was renown for attempting to ERP.
I think he also had an f-list at some point but i can't find it in my archives.

Sounds like Roleplay autism to me, but I might be wrong .
He's made some quality posts on this thread.

Also, why the fuck were some of his posts deleted?

Attached: firefox_2018-03-16_03-21-28.png (1295x629, 54.36K)

I still don't know why yoy were banned
I still don't know why I was banned

what were you banned for?

Wolverine Mk.I > Wolverine Mk.II

I like the boxy, trashcan design

Asking for the source of a statement.

what about the exoskeletons though?

usual then

Yeah it's fucking irritating isn't it? Especially since he pulled the muh copyright card, like what the fuck?

Attached: I HAD SEEN TOO MUCH OF IT ALREADY.png (521x828, 507.35K)

what even this disgusting abomination of a thread?

Nice OC

Mark going on a banning spree again?

Way to be consistent Mark.

Surviving Mars is out. Plays a bit like the Stronghold series, collecting resources and storing them on pallets.

Last thing I want for my colony is a tumblr otherkin complaining that her male scientist roommates are misogynists because they're working on tech to improve the life of the colony while she blogs back to earth how oppressive life is there.

Attached: Untitled.png (1825x995, 2.32M)

Do you get to remove AYY in this game?

Attached: Dark Colony - Dead grays.mp4 (320x180, 499.29K)

Is it too much to hope that "other" refers to aliens rather than brain damaged otherkin with a 55% suicide rate when they aren't on a hostile planets and do not receive weekly welfare checks?

No it's a city builder.

I wish. A few tips.

I am not a smart man. It's better than the switches in Railyway Empire at least.

I do enjoy supcom casts

I think it's time we left for >>>/vg/ anons.

I think it's time people start keeping meta discussion or shitflinging to the relevant threads, instead of posting that shit where they damn well please instead.
Your derailment of an unrelated thread does not help your case nor does it build sympathy.

Faggot I wasn't posting any meta shit and now I've got to use a VPN to post in this thread because was handing bans out like fucking candy.

you realize those meta threads have not archived a single thing? many people have been fucked off with mark for mass deleting on topic posts and yet it still happens.

It was literally anons playing video games and then someone mentioned /vg/ and he went nuclear.

Neither of you gave a good reason as to why we should discuss your bans in the RTS thread.

that would be correct, however I'm sure to get another slapping regardless if I'm on topic or not. this is my issue and I'll shut up now till it happens again.

There was a bump in cuckchan posters cause their site went down. Mods went a little enthusiastic on their asses.

Mods have been fucking with the RTS thread for weeks now, hell OP has a /vg/ link in it just in case.

Mods are the NOD obelisks

To be honest Mark destroying the gamenight thread was the final straw. I really can't be assed keeping the RTS thread up on Holla Forums knowing at any point half the posts may get randomly deleted cause a mod sees something they don't like.

What if we tried moving to /games/? /vg/ is too dead and people are getting banned for the silliest things

/vg/ is far more active than /games/ to be honest.

Lad /vg/ is clearly more active right now.

We got a KW tournament live right now
twitch tv/spartylive
Pardon the location of the stream but the caster's a cool guy; impartial and focused on the game at all times.

...

Has anyone figured out how to get C&C3-engine games running on modern systems yet? IIRC it had something to do with either windows 10 or intel GPUs?

What? Why are you using WIndows 10? It works just fine on 7.

doesn't DTA allow the allied to fight against NOD

n o n c a n o n

There seems to be a new thread over here but nobody linked to it

Oh we know, it seems someone linked an earlier thread to /vg/ and now there is a lot of posting going on over in there
Maybe link it in there?
I would myself but i end up fucking crossboard linking every fucking time

>>>/vg/26519
There you go user

How fucking hard is it to just make AI scale smoothly? The difference between (Bronze/Normal) and (Silver/Hard) is like the difference between playing against an 8 year old and a semi-pro player. How the fuck am I supposed to learn to play this game when the difficulty jumps from kiddie mode to "Fuck your shit" with no in between so I can figure out decent build orders?

Nice.

They still get made, but pros don't play them because they prefer the popular competitive ones like SC and AOE, while casuals don't play them because they believe they will get instarushed in a splitsecond by the earlier.

I swear, you'd think that now that we live in the information age and no longer rely on guides or experienced friends, more people would get a hang of the mechanics, strategies and unique skills easier. But in reality people don't want to learn shit now and if they can't get the illusion of gitting gud 30 minutes in, they won't bother with these games in first place.
Shit like this sometimes makes me wonder why we even have >5MB/s of consumer internet.

Attached: madden_fan_w_snake.jpg (720x576, 30.44K)

There's also the fact that to this day it seems nobody's made an RTS where real-time tactical moves can outplay pre-game strategy. Often in the esports scene games are effectively decided within the first few opening moves. It's not as bad in casual play but it's still there. When you compare this to what's actually popular with people in multiplayer, you'll see that the key difference in the popular games is that they allow, and often rely on, the ability of a losing player to reverse their situation without relying on their opponent fucking up. You can try to get a headshot in shooters, you can set up some retarded gank in ASSFAGGOTS, etc. In RTS what can you do if your economy gets fucked by a raid because you rolled the dice wrong in guessing which strat your opponent was going to use? You're at a disadvantage for the entire rest of the game.
Losing isn't fun when you know that there's little to no chance for you to turn it around unless your opponent is literally retarded. Even less so when the winning strategies often rely on the opponent failing to exploit certain weaknesses early, instead of a more rounded approach.

Well, that mostly just comes on any FFA games. Reversing against an opponent that 3%'d your health on a 1v1 shooter isn't really easy either unless you get a lucky shot or manage to outplay your opponent. And if someone just turtles on the main base with the wrong civ and technologies, instead of spreading across the map like wildfire while building bases and annoyances to slow down the enemy and get more shots for defense, it's honestly their fault.
I don't want the genre to focus on casuals or cater to them, but i don't think having more beginner/midskill rooms would damage RTS either. So that people who missed the whole RTS bandwagon in the 90's/2000's found a way to integrate in, but not without removing or obscuring out the learning/strategy part, of course.

*but without

It's easier at all skill levels than any type of reversal in RTS. Getting a headshot is more a matter of your own skill than your opponent's lack of it.
Yeah, and if you put those bases in the wrong spot? Wasted eco. If you expand too slowly? Opponent gains massive production advantage. Lose a skirmish? Welp, there goes any chance of a lead until lategame. Seemingly minor failures have huge cascading outcomes that are very difficult to avoid.
Nobody does, but the current state of RTS is an unfriendly, unwelcoming game with long match length, high investment, and low probability of success.
To use the FPS analogy, RTS is like playing a 1v1 to 10 points on an enormous and sparsely-populated (item-wise) UT2k4 map and you only get one weapon (your viable strat pick). Maybe if you and your opponent get to 8+ points you can swap guns later. Would you play this game? Fuck no. The game's outcome depends way too much on predicting your opponent's weapon pick and the game is going to take way too long even after it's apparent who's going to win. The optimal strategy for getting the most wins/time is not to play the game, but to try to outpick your opponent, and if you didn't do it right, leave immediately an begin another match. Now did you pick the right section of the map to scout out? No? Just leave because you're fucked anyways because whoever dies first is at a massive disadvantage (opponent keeps health, armor, etc). Bear in mind that your opponent will do this too, since they want to have fun and not waste their time.
The end result is that you'll have a game that nobody actually plays except ultrapros and retards. All the regular mid-skill players will realize that they could be having a hell of a lot more fun playing something else.
To fix RTS what has to happen is that there needs to be an RTS made where:
Now to be fair there are RTS games that have some of the above points, but never every single one as far as I've seen. The overarching idea is that the game will allow creative strategy, the outcome of a match won't be as deterministic (or at least not as predictable during gameplay), and the players won't feel as though a lost match has wasted their time.

I've always seen SupCom FA as an RTS that provides this experience due to several unorthodox strategies and means to overcoming opponents. Largely thanks to the assassinate-based victory system, allowing one clever move to undo your opponent.
