Otto the Great united the german Counts into thinking of themselves as a united people and seeing each other as brothers, that is the important part because at this point the real history of Germany and Germans as a united people really starts. Being crowned Emperor and calling the Empire Roman instead of Teutonic or Diutisk/Deutisk was only a powerplay which was incredibly useful and needed at the time. Of course some later Emperors got the quite retarded idea to larp as actual Romans or Italians but that never worked out well and there are just as many that used the title right. And no citizen apart from maybe some of the northern Italians actually called themselves Romans.

It's really a shame that there seems to be no good overhaul mods in the new generation of paradox games. CK2 had HIP, EU4 has VeF, Stellaris and HoI4 have shitty joke mods or overdesigned piles of crap when they are most badly in need of a mod that fixes basic gameplay problems.

The games before Stellaris and HoI44 weren't as mechanically broken, it's doubtful that a mod can do enough to make those function correctly/have the right mechanics.
Furthermore most of the old modders, likely didn't make the jump to the newer games.
And if that isn't enough the target audience doesn't are enough to change something.

The biggest disappointment about HoI4 is that you can't construct equipment out of different parts according to certain specifications e.g. Chrsitie Suspenion or double torsion bar, high or low velocity gun, 4 or 5 man crew etc.

Still, you could massively improve HoI4 if you just copied HoI3's stats pretty much verbatim.

Stellaris is a bit harder, it needs a patchwork of various mods but all of the compilations that do so go full retard.

R56 is just memes, don't take HOI4 seriously and I believe that particular mod (and Kaiserreich if you want something a little more serious and actually well developed unlike vanilla) is the way to play HOI4. Vanilla is really just a base for silly shit to happen.

Black ICE (HOI4) tries to go full autism on a game not built for autism. Black ICE (HOI3) is where it should stay. It's a giant chore to play through BICE in a game that isn't suited for BICE.

I'd say give the new games 1-2 years to age like wine, and then we can say whether they're dogshit or not.
