Why the fuck does every online community love skull masks so god damn much?
Seriously it's been bugging me for awhile now, anytime there's a online game with a decent level of customization, there's usually a skull mask that everyone and their mother will wear for some reason.
Fucking why? In other settings like 40k I could understand because maybe you want to roleplay as a chaplain or something but when you have so many outright better options why limit yourself? Why not just be a fucking skeleton instead of a fag in a skull mask?

I agree with you OP I have never liked any skull masks in games.

Man, i am too old for this shit.

Some games are even more Jewish than others and notice this trend, so as a result they always make the skull mask the most expensive thing possible because they know people will want to buy it, kinda like how alot of MMOs make the color black stupidly expensive.

I know, but I wasn't talking about games selling these cosmetics, I was talking about whales buying these cosmetics, consistently to the point that it's actually fucking profitable to take a bunch of games by storm.
Especially with this loot box/random chance crate deal.

Skull masks can look alright if done well, but like most things that's 10% of the time, at best. 90% of everything is shit.
Still, I'm happy with skulls being the edgelord badge since they at least fit in with most games which revolve around killing and maiming. It would be much, much more annoying if shit like tails (horses, dragons, etc) or bird/fox/masquerade in general masks were all the rage.

I can't tell you how much I wish Payday 2 was a good game.
I love the concept and its fucking unrivaled when it comes to weapon customizations, but it's such a DLC-ridden clunky memefest I can't enjoy it.
I remember there was some cute Bulldozer porn back when we had PD2 threads but I can't find it again.

Game required effort to be good. Why bother doing that when you can just say 'fuck it, make the game more shooty'. The more they moved away from stealth and made shooting have better rewards, the less the game became about heisting and more about pushing into bigger and more 'badass' jobs.

Game should have been built off stealth, but then you don't get the money of the casual and tryhard crowds.

They've shown glimpses of understanding what they're doing, as well.
Remember the yacht heist? It's fun, requires decent planning and good execution. But it probably took months to make that so OVK would rather shit out another shitty bag carrying sim.

I can tell you right now the skull masks in PS2 are the single hat I have yet to see anyone buy during the entire lifespan of WWEW server wide.

I'd rather navigate my way around a series of guard patrols and camera locations to pull off objectives in 4 different corners of the map than all group up in one spot or at best forming a line to pass bags while doing nothing but aiming for headshots.

I haven't played in a while, so I may be wrong, but this is simply untrue. Stealth gets you more shit faster with less hassle. It's just boring as shit because it become bag simulator instead of fun shooter.

Talk about a bag simulator. Except its safes so you're even slower and the mission on Overkill was easy enough to do at level 1 and substantially more rewarding than stealth missions. Unless they released a stealth mission more rewarding than it since and didn't also release a loud mission more rewarding than that.

Look at the original Payday: the game's not about skulking about, nabbing the loot and leaving everyone scratching their heads, it's about kicking the fucking door down and taking the place's shit.

Once you get past set pieces, samey shooting mechanics is samey shooting mechanics, especially in a game like Payday 2 that encourages grinding.
Every enemy dies faster to headshots, so there is no variation in how you play. Even when a special enemy type comes out like a Medic or a Taser, you just change up your priorities to focusing that enemy first. It's not like other similar shooters like L4D where you treat enemies in different ways (knockback boomers) or something like Borderlands where the weak spot of enemies varies. Just shoot the same fucking spot on every enemy. And do it running whatever meta-weapon is best be it a specific rifle, dual pistols or silenced shotty. Also run whichever build makes you most invincible in the current patch. You barely even need skill tree variation because it gets increasingly easy to get high level perks.
Payday 2 is a terrible game for shooting. It's fun while you're playing through the first time and you crank up the difficulty bit by bit and you try out a couple of weapons, but once you realize that all you're ever going to be doing is shooting the same soldiers just with increased HP/damage and carting bags from point A to point B, the fun stops.

Respirators/Gas-masks are way more cooler (and sometimes useful) than them.

I've always seen the skull mask/helmet design as bland and lazy, it's so fucking overused. When a game gives me the option to get creative with my cosmetics, I at least try and be original. I always respect my opponent more when he has tried to be original in the way he looks bad-ass and I get unreasonably angry when I see some fucker with skull designs and red/black colors. I guess it's this lack of humility that they have that pisses me off, because they are trying to be the "ultimate" with no fucking experience to back it up. All the players wearing skull masks are almost always beginners or incredibly shit at the game. It doesn't inspire fear in me, it just makes me want to kill them harder.

The Skull Man 2007 is an intentional reimagining of a pair of mangas (the original 1970 one shot, and a 1998 seven volume authorized extended reboot), which Bones for some reason opted to tie into Cyborg009. Maybe they wanted their own adaptation of that as well, but ultimately nothings came of it (incidentally, I don't think there's ever been any direct correlation between Skull Man and C009 beyond '07 Skull Man, and C009 having an unrelated villain named Skull). I get the feeling '07 didn't get much attention back in the day, and I honestly hadn't heard of Skull Man anything until I came across a DVD set by chance. Maybe whatever plans they might have had for continuing it fell through.

If you haven't read it yet, the 1998 extended reboot (Ishinomori never got to continue his original work, and left his notes to Shimamoto on his death bed to reboot in depth) is hard to find scans of since Tokyopop's mostly purged it from the net, but here's a link to an archive of it in a number of filetypes.
