So he violently drove everyone out of the cities and forced them to work the fields, with everyone who resisted being executed. Pol Pot is pretty much the one major "communist" figure that even tankies won't defend; so universally reviled that he was ultimately defeated by the actual commies from Vietnam, whose interim rule was an extreme improvement in living conditions and human rights.
