Utawarerumono

Anyone here played the Utawarerumono series? The first game came out back in 2002 and had only resurfaced 15 years later. The second game was called Mask of Deception and its immediate sequel was Mask of Truth, both released to North America on the same year in 2017. The artwork was done by the same artist who did the sprites for the Dungeon Travelers games and they even included cameos for some of the girls from Utawarerumono.

Did you play the 2002 game or did you start with Mask of Deception on the Vita / PS4? Do you prefer the old casts or the new ones? How do you think Aquaplus will justify the full price for the remake as it came from a 20 hour game unlike the other two which range from 80 to 100 hours? What is aquaplus secret project?

I have yet to play it but I have it downloaded on my computer
the vita threads make it sound like the next coming of christ so I'm pretty hyped to get into it. Its strange how it started out as an eroge apparently.

I played the original back when I was younger and happier. I remember almost nothing about it, but when the sequels came out, I wanted to replay it. My monstrous backlog is preventing me from doing so though. Some day.

It is, and the eroge is canon too as the PS2 version, despite adding more contents to make up for the h-scene removal, by removing all the h-scenes they also removed the birth of a certain someone that play a major part in later games.

I have no idea how they would handle the h-scenes in the remake while trying to keep it canon.

...

Nah, watched the anime though. The trap twins are hot.

...

They sound and look exactly the same 15 years later, I know their VAs are women but while everyone from the old cast has changed somewhat they still have the same dopey smiles and same attires. Also their porn is non-existent.

I saw a fag who did this for Valkyria Chronicles and he missed out on a gigantic plot point and embarrassed himself in the thread
"watching the anime" for video games instead of playing them first is retarded

Also here's the BR that's part of a pre-order for the Utawarerumono remake. Contains mild spoiler if you aren't half way through Mask of Deception

Tried to refrain from samefagging too much but thread's gonna end up on page 12, one last post then I'll accept whatever comes.

For anyone who beat Mask of Truth, since the voice actor for Kuuya retired and the only cameo of her in the third game was her royal hat that Kuon wears what do you think happened to her and her caretaker? I was a bit heart broken to find out she's not in the game despite holding a major role in the first game.

Also interesting design choice is that all of the bunny people are the closest to harness the ancient's technology or have ties with an Onvitaikayan. When you think about it, rabbits are popular for scientific experiments

Yeah I played it, found it rather amusing that MC basically gets coerced into sex by the girl in the iron collar and will kill him without hesitation if he backs out and tries to set her up with someone else.

She's Karura, I was a bit worried of NTR since he first boned Eruru recently and then they made him fuck Karura. Then the game started dumping porn of all the girls at me and in the next game they agreed unanimously to be his mistress and take care of his child while he's away. This dispelled my initial NTR fear.

She got mindwiped, she wouldn't be the same as before anyways and if she showed up she'd be a teenage girl in an older body.

I couldn't help but laugh at that scene because it was like

ugh

>where you're revered as gods
>there's only three of you left

Yea I would imagine that she tripped and fell somewhere to her death due to having toddler mind and her caretaker commit suicide because the only family member she had left was gone.

how many abu kamu does it take to attack Tuskur?

What is this and how do I play it

Underwater Ray Romano and you play it on PC98.

yeah, that overused plot-twist can only suprise the low-intelligence gook anime nerd audience

The first game is free on PC but for Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth you gotta have a ps4 or a vita to play on. If you have both then I'd suggest going with vita version as the Vita games are cheaper now and the sound quality is better.

Also here's the link to the first game
mirrormoon.org/projects/complete/utawarerumono/

How many games before it did that though

Also Atuy is my favorite girl, she's a bubbly archetype done right. Initially I thought she'd be annoying or one of those home-wreckers type but she ends up very pleasant to interact with.

Her unit is also an incredibly good attacker and I'd give her an Indomitable codex right next to an Awakening one so she can attack multiple times on the same turn, which would usually wipe out half of the units on stage.

...

I was a pretty big fan of the first game, I remember getting pretty emotional, and I'm tempted to replay it since its been years I just recently played Mask of Deception/Truth.

I know they can't make an h-game on the fucking Vita, but the lack of scenes did disappoint me, since almost every girl is great. I probably prefer the new cast girls, but the old cast guys. Not sure how they're going to justify the remake without h-scenes, personally I'd rather play the older version and have them than have them removed, not to mention the one with them is free.

Apparently Aquaplus will bundle an OVA with it if you pre-ordered, I don't read japs but it starts showing it here at the 2:07 mark and it seems to be about small Kuon's past. Although that's nice and all I think the Mask of Deception anime fucked up. Half of the Mask of Deception game was slice of life that could have been included in the OVA. Knowing that it's triple the size of the original Uta they should have done the same thing they did with the 2006 show where they kept everything plot related in the main show and sold the slice of life in the OVA separately.

Yea the old male casts dynamics were great, nobody felt like a throwaway when they talk and that stays true even when they bring them back for just a some scenes. The only complaint I have for the new casts is that they have certain people neglected initially and removed later on which then become a major villain so their developments were non-existent in the 2nd game that was supposed to be about warming up to the new family, which concerned me initially. I guess they made up for that by introducing Jackwald as an enemy and turn into a bro in the same game. Jackwald still seems out of place for me despite him having excellent personality as that entire Jackwald arc in Truth was the only low point of the game where they tried to hype up a samurai drama but it was boring because compared to the other male casts his arc it didn't progress the story, just "Jackwald saves the day" so they had to hamfist a Kuon vs Atuy sparr and everyone just goes back to bed, it really showed. Other than that I think the rest of the lads had great personality and I enjoyed hearing them interact with each other, even Jackwald has his moment.

I love both the old and the new female casts, even the weakest one that is Nosuri was presented well in all events and I think they did a really good job balancing the developments of Kuon, Atuy, Rulutieh and Nosuri. Also if you noticed they share some traits from the old casts so you can relate with them, they're all expos in some way without coming off as a palette swap.

Forgot to quote

Underware monowhat?

Udder War Rare Mon Oh

Danganronpa

The world and fashion is lightly based on the real Ainu people, with some words borrowed like Kamuy from Ennakamuy meaning "god", but that's as far as the comparison goes.

Redpill me on this series.

A developer studio called Leaf whose initial success was a dating sim called To Heart. They later went on to create a concept of a country filled with kemonomimi (humans with animal ears) and that's the basis of Utawarerumono. It was meant to have more gameplay instead of 2 part VN 1 part video game, however during their design process they realized that scattering battles all over the place was not a good idea and that'd just make multiple playthrough tedious, so they decided to keep the story section separated with all the scenes play out as a break between each stage-like battles where you could read them all as you move between stages. This turned it into a VN.

The combo system is only available on the PS2 game as an after-thought, it wasn't in the original game. Then it wasn't there in Mask of Deception which is the second game, and then they brought it back in the third game. The reason for this is that "the casts bond have deepen enough during the huge slice of life section in Mask of Deception", but I'd like to think that they didn't have the budget yet.

Despite the fact that it's a war themed game, their scenario writer disagreed with the Sengoku setting and instead wanted to do an Ainu themed game. However the book they needed to reference from was too expensive and there was little research done at time so the Ainu theme did not carry far. However among the Ainu materials they mentioned of powerful chieftain wives with funny mouth tattoo, and the bigger the tattoo the more influential they are. From that they decided that these animal people's children will inherit traits from the mother instead.

All three Utawarerumono games are important and they always go back to one another. This goes beyond simple references and memes as you have a game that was made in 2002 and the other two made 15 years later, so they went with a timeskip and two different main protagonists. The first game is about a Hakuoro's come to power and he had a child. That child then grew up and met the protagonist of the second game called Haku, and their fates intertwined which led them to meet the old casts one by one. They received helps from the old casts to overcome impossible trials and this is where Utawarerumono series shine: a great emphasis on family values, hope for the future and the hotblooded.

Also the games contain so many twists that you cannot spoil them all. Some of them will hit you like a beach ball in a middle of a desert. People have already done so in the thread to be funny but the game isn't about how the world went to shit, it's about how the world has healed overtime and the will of humanity will always prevail.

Also there was a fighting game called Aquapazza on the PS4 that featured all of Aquaplus characters

Aquaplus also made Tears to Tiara so if you liked that series you'll probably like this Utawarerumono, though I haven't played the ToT games yet

I've only watched the anime because I'm a secondary shitter and too miserly to spend the money gameshit wants for the vita games, but I can't get enough of it. I love the setting this takes place in. Just about everything in it is custom-tailored to tickle my autism. Someone sell or give me their copies already.

If possible I would sell my MoD and MoT vita games to you for cheap but I have no idea how to sell shit on amazon.

Although the vita ones prices have dropped quite a lot, I think I've seen copy of Truth selling for only 29 dollar on amazon instead of 79 dollars.

Outrageous.

in CAD

aquapazza had some severe problems
the netcode was steamy diarrhea and chizuru was meta knight tier

I actually haven't played that one either but that sucks.

One thing I heard from a friend is that Karura's combo has the same animation as a certain someone from Mask of Truth and it was the most contrived combo to pull off. Seeing how these two are related in Truth I thought that was cool.

Does it have any qt anime girls?

Yes there are plenty!

This pretty much. Great setting, top tier waifus, fluffy tail etc, protags are great too and avoid all the usual shit that pisses me off about Japanese game protagonists. I played the first game fucking ages ago, and never expected we would get the second ones (didn't think they would ever be fan translated either due to no PC release) so it's been pretty great to have em. Been using Mask of Truth as comfy bed time reading. Combats pretty good too, shame there isn't more of it. Overall would recommend to VN fans.

One of very few games that can satisfy my rampant alcoholism.

Atuy best girl, how she develops from a joke character, to one of the most aware is amazing.

I'd go so far as to say that the two sequels, mainly Mask of Truth is a celebration, even exaltation of humanity, loved seeing a collapsed civillisation/people not just critised for its hubris, but worshiped for unparralleled willpower among other aspects.

I was upset that you couldn't dick the black winged girl while she wasn't delirious.

That's because she's your first and only biological daughter in a sense that she was cultivated from your own tissue back when you were known as Ice Man, it'd be incest

Fug didn't mean to say "only"

On second thought technically all of the kemonomimi are his offsprings but they're hundreds of generations down the road that it doesn't matter he dicked some of them. Only Mutsumi still acknowledges you as her father and I guess a blowjob is where they drew the line.

Is it the eroge versoin?

Ye, although be warned that the eroge behaved differently from the PS2 version in that the VN parts are missable after you've read some of them which skips you to the next stage, so make sure to save before every town section

Also is it playable on Windows 10?

I ran it on windows 8.1 but the game runs on Xvid which can run on Window 10

Oh and since both of you have beaten Truth how did you guys react when the game pulled this shit.

I both loved and was terrified, remembering how strong I had made "them" in the original. funnily enough I joked that if Aruruu was even half as strong as i made her in the original, almost all points in def, i'd be fucked. While not as strong, she was certainly tough to take down
I liked how the battle is almost certain to kick your shit in and is a battle of attrition, I lost half my party when Ulthury and Camyu spawned, which makes it fit with the cutscenes where your party essentially accept death and plan to go out swinging unlike so many other games which you can easily win, yet still "lose".

The whole segment with Haku starting at level 1 and advancing combined with the previous protags as the enemy is one of my favourite final boss battles i've ever played, only made better by the unique dialogue for attacks, etc. I could probably go on autistically about it for hours but i'll leave it at this, especially since i'd rather spoil as little as possible about the very end.

Does it even fucking translate into anything?

Isn't this only revealed, like, 4/5ths into the game? You've got a good 34 hours of intrigue before that.

Whenever I try to install, it just keeps freezing and(Not Responding) how do I fix this?

The Legend Sung - Uta means song, Ware Mono means "It is I"

Apparently you need to run it through Applocale for it to work on your end. Do you know how to get that?

Yea I saw the damage shadow Karura did to Cocopo and promptly shit myself. She died in two turns baiting her away from shadow Touka so my team could tickle her down to half health, and then THEY showed up and I just felt overwhelming despair. Not to mention I thought I was underleveled too since my party was at 37 while they were all 40 and above.

I didn't bother putting def to Aruru because I didn't know how BP works back then and pumped atk to everyone. Her initial health and def was enough to carry her through most battles at 10% health.

Speaking of tanks Ironically my Nekone is the second tankiest unit because I followed a friend's advice and put her BP in Atk and Def. She became an amazing healer with shit damage. I drew a Nekone tank.

Then just before one of the worst missions in the game, MC tries one last attempt to ruin her plans until suddenly he gets an unusually large rock in the back and the realization that if he continues he's a dead man.

Nope. What is it?

pooi.moe/Locale-Emulator/
I installed it back in 2014 so my knowledge might have been obsolete. I googled it and found a new looking version that says it's compatible with window 10. Essentially most japanese games are made for japanese and they coded it in a way that it would break on foreign OS, so this let you trick the game to think that it's running on a Japanese OS. Follow the instruction in the link.

Tell me if it's still broken afterward.

I ran it in both Japanese, and Japanese admin and still get the same result

When does it start freezing? Middle of the setup or the moment you launched it?

Middle of setup

Looking at those pics i don't want anything to do with that game or its fans.

You have two choices, either get CPUKiller and go through ctrl-alt-del when the installation is on, and limit the program to one core, assuming you have a quad-core.

Or run it through VirtualBox
virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

Oh wait apparently you can just manually do that on window 10 in Process

in Process?

The process tab under Task Manager under ctrl-alt-delete, I found it in this
support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/213039445-Game-speed-issues-too-fast-too-slow-uneven-speed-

Sorry I have to take potshots here since I don't have windows 10, but these guides for old games should work.

Forced it to only use one core still not working

Should I set it to high priority as well?

One last ditch option then, have you tried running it in different compatibility modes in Properties when you right click the installer? Run it through window 8 or below

I tried it before I'll try it again now that I have the other things downloaded

Alright, sorry I wasn't of much help. Do watch the shows if you're still curious.

I played Uta 2 & 3 loved them and wanted to try the original. I was also going to watch the shows eventually

thanks for the help

planet of the apes lol

Oh ye that's pretty good

wat? the only tweeeeest is that the story takes place in the future after an apocalypse and all the animal-ear people are descendants of genetic-experimented on humans. plus the protag is some genetically modified gozilla monster. the big bad is another genetically modified gozilla monster.

pretty lame overall, with terrible character designs.

A much more positive future, to be sure. That even after destruction some semblance of it will survive, even if a bit altered, into the future. Rather than the message being that niggers will inherit the world after a nuclear war.

You only spoiled one thing out of a 20 hour game in a 200 hour series. I've played through all of them, I'd know.

Also the artist has improved his arts greatly during the 15 years time gap. I'd say give the sequels a try if you aren't big with retro looking designs.

I know you're pretty desperate to increase awareness and discussion about the game, but come now my man. Let's not resort to trying to entice blatant shitposters.

Unless it's blatant like
I don't always assume they have shitposting motive and just an honest guy, but yea I guess I post too many times in a row.

To name but a few
why humanity fell
the pact with eruruu
Kuuya
Camyu
the split between the two gods and the interpretations of them
This among numerous minor elements concerining party members backgrounds and foreign leaders, and this is just concerning the first, significantly smaller game.
Also
>doesn't even seem to know the plot ignores the god element
>inability to spoil all the twists even fucking up the only one he tries merely proves right
There's shitposting and then then there's desperate retardation

Regarding the OP, wasn't the secret project all but confirmed to be a prequel to the original focusing on Genjimaru and such or are you reffering to something else ?

I'm curious as to whether or not the added art book is one of the reasons the price is too high for many

Ayy yo hol up. It comes with an art book? Is this book censored stateside in any way? Do both games come with one, or only the newest? Any other Goods? Give me all the details my duder. This will go a long way to helping me justify spending more dollarydoos than I would usually consider.

There's a small version of the big artbook that comes with the game if you bought Mask of Deception on the Vita day one edition. Mask of Truth comes with a pillow case instead, it's pretty big.

I don't think they'd bother censor artbooks especially if they didn't bother censoring any in the game in the first place. They're all in Japanese and you'd have to export them.

It's pretty niche so there should be plenty of Day One stocks left for both games, I got mine from EB games.

Small as in lesser resolution, or as in 'we reduced the content/page count'? Important detail.

Also, didn't they censor the loli empress spanking event still? I remember being pretty mad at that.

As far as i'm aware all copies of Mask of Deception ps4 version at least, dunno about vita should come with a, albeit small, 51 page art book, see pics related apologies for atrocious quality but I couldn't quickly find scans
Mask of truth has, only for some limited copies but you can but it seperatly a small pillow cover of the twins sequel twins not original

In fairness there is a singular piece of censorship where Anju is spanked they don't show Munechika's raised hand yet still imply the spanking I found it rather ironic since it was done due to anti-corporal punishment laws in Germanistan yet they show Anju underage drinking and getting beat to near death

Yea there should have been bare ass where the spat is, although it makes no difference, as seen here , that's the only censorship they have as it was considered "child abuse" from what I heard lol

It was only a 50 page artbook that details characters and some storyboards, it doesn't have eyecandy stuff like the other guys have posted. There are character spoilers in there though so if you ended up buying it I'd suggest beating Deception first before reading.

Does the PS4 have games yet? I don't want to get one only for this.

My memory is fuzzy but put it better, I meant the spanking scene was considered child abuse.

Nigga don't you ever dare tell me that censoring bare loli ass is unimportant. I will fight you. Atlus will see no money from me for this heinous injustice.

I've been checking out the online prices, and it's still all fucking expensive. I'll have to jog down to the local gameshit and see if they have a cheaper copy, if they even still have a vita (ps4 is okay too though) section. It's been about a year since I was in there, and even back then it was down to a single sad shelf less than a foot long.

It's a hard bargain but she has other costumes than the eskimo coat she's wearing that showed midriff thighs and shit, don't worry. I can't post it here as it's a pretty major spoiler in the third game. I can only hope you join the ride soon.

I'm still heavily thinking about it, but prices remain outrageous. I've got a few options in my location besides gamestop so if they don't have it in at an agreeable price, I can hit those up afterwards. I aint paying fucking 30 dollars though. Just aint doing it.

Nice oinker.

Wait where did you get this from?

One of the new Uta projects will be a similar title to their first fighting game, but one of the others is likely a prequel, based off of japs speculating based on some registeres site domains, although i'd imagine the big one might be a sequel, they are working on multiple after all
tbh I can't remember where I saw this, could be cause i've been drinking or mybe i'm just retarded
Have some info you've probably already seen
archive.is/V0z7A

Jimmy why did mom let you have two secret projects

I've read it but only got that they're working on something beside the remake, and it's action oriented. If it's a fighting game then hopefully they'll improve upon Aquapazza.

Also new official art of Sarana and Ururu, god bless

It'd certainly be interesting to see future games that focus on the world and less on humans and gods

Always enjoy these type of threads. We used to have an user or two that would always talk about Shadow Heart, Wild Arms, and Ar Tonelico. I wonder if they still lurk. Anyways I have both of these games and yet I have yet to play them on the Vita. I also have Tears to Tiara 2 which I really need to finish. I'll try binging it this weekend. Aquapazza to PC when?

Have you played the first one? You're in for a feast, I easily clocked 5 weeks nonstop. I kinda suck its dick a bit too much but it's honestly my favorite as it's the only series that's changed my outlook for the better. The prospect of a game that was done so long ago most publishers would just stamp it with a potato chip budget or suffer some form of casualization for some quick cash if they were to revive it, yet this one just suddenly popped out of nowhere brimming with contents and tied every knot ends neatly, is rarer than winning the lotto. Really cheered me up from all the numerous blunders and horror stories heard on here about the industry.

I also need to play Tears to Tiara series but I heard the games are standalone, do you know if I should play them in chronological order or is there a version you prefer?

I played the first one or at least I think it was the first one. The MC had a mask he couldn't remove. All I really remember is all the girls where extremely head pattable, the ending being kinda weird and not being able to save the sick girl.

Yea the whole separated entities and Mutsumi kinda overwhelmed me at first but later on in the series they touched upon on how the mask works and it finally made sense: Witsuarunemitea is formed by the spirit of industry and the spirit of natural selection, it isn't human but physical manifestation of evolution, the kind that caused humans to evolve into sentient beings and formed civilizations, which is why it could grant wishes / form contract, to elevate human beings. I'm gonna have to go through some biographies and some references to the sequels in order to explain what happened because everything near the end of the first game just sorta happened.

After Hakuoro went on rampage in the underground bunker, he requested Mutsumi to kill him, which incidentally became a contract as it was spoken under Witsuarunemitea's presence. So she popped a cap in its ass but instead caused Witsuarunemitea to split into two. Hakuoro then became The White God half while the other half became The Black God as its own thing, which was sleeping/sealed away by her. The site where that happened became the sealing ground. If I remember correctly, there was a scene of a scared scholar waking up Witsuarunemitea. That scholar was Dii waking up The Black God before the event of Utawarerumono. That could have been a few hundred years ago and since these animal people have doubled life spans that humans do (not explained until the sequel), a lot could have happened like Tuskur giving birth to the father of Aruru and Eruru who she named Hakuoro, or Dii granting the predecessors of Kuuya the Abu Kamu to stop the oppression of its people. Anyway after the split each half decided to travel the world as human to study and understand better what humanity really wants, all the while resisting the urge to reunite which is described as "the impossible urge to fight one another. Mutsumi meanwhile created the Onkamyamukai, the bird people clan, which is why she was called The Founder and since the mother's gene is dominant in this universe, she was able to pass down her genes through generations, which let her to "reincarnate". This method was done again in the sequel to a certain someone, as retrospect to explain why Mutsumi was possessing Kamyu and why she looked young despite centuries have passed. I won't go into it too much but it was basically a process of mind-transfer. All of this was for her to wait for the time when she can be with her father again. However, each half would also wound up finding the other half through the process of making allies with nations and waging war against each others, all because of the urge to reunite and they always end up succeeding, which they became Witsuarunemitea once more and is implied that he killed most of the previous allies. Due to the contract that bound Mutsumi, she is obligated to kill him every time he's in that form, which only for him to split again. This causes Hakuoro to lose his memory every time. The conflict repeats and the same events played out, for the next millenniums until the event of Utawarerumono, in which Mutsumi deemed that your party is strong enough and that due to amnesia father will never reciprocate her feelings, so she got tired of it all committed suicide, thereby handing consciousness back to Kamyu. The party then helped kill his human form for good by hitting Witsuarunemitea enough times, causing his human form underneath to strain from the stress of the mask and die forever, dropping the mask, thereby stopping the cycle. The animal people witnessed a pattern in these events and the only way to keep historical records back when the writing system wasn't invented, is through word of mouth, or songs. Therefore he is called The Legend Sung. Also Mutsumi in Japanese means "to intertwine" or "to connect", which is fitting to what she has gone through. (cont.)

(cont.)
With each cycle the people that each God half allied with would have their descendants to once again join forces with each half, and also their subsequent descendants. So according to the wiki, Tusukuru, Waabe (Onkamiyamukai’s emperor and Urtorii's father), and Oboro's grandfather fought along side with The White God. While Karura’s father (Emperor of Rarumanionu and head of the Giriyagina race), Genjimaru, and Kuuya’s father fought with The Black God. This explains why Tuskur was surprised when she first saw Hakuoro and how Oboro was surprised to hear the name of Hakuoro. It was never explained but it was implied that they both knew it was another one of his cycle, either from their parents or from participating in the previous cycle.

In short Witsuarunemitea isn't an evil god it just honestly doesn't know what humanity wants. It is then given personality and the reason that it attacked your party was simply because The Black God half was trying to do its job to "elevate humanity", like how it has killed most of Tuskur's allies back then and probably the parties before that.

Also they added an encyclopedia in the sequel and Yuzuha's entry came up, it was the only one without a picture, made me choke up a bit. Also I'm not sure which version you played but the reason for her death was childbirth in which the PS2 version left out, as such you'll find a familiar face in Mask of Deception.

I like nip strategy rpgs and don't mind tiddies. How is it mechanically?

The first game had very bare bone strategy, but I'm only speaking strictly from the eroge, the PS2 had a different gameplay and overhauled stats, and since I didn't play that version I'll only go through it a little bit.

The first game play like Dissidia where you have a relatively small square map, you control your unit in a turn-based grid fashion and you gain exp from attacking an enemy, not just by killing one. Healer in the first game gain exp by healing but can't attack. You then tally up everyone's levels at the end of a battle and raise their stats there. Every time you level up in battle your HP and SP is restored.

There is a system of elemental affinity of fire, water, earth and wind but it's not too important in the first game. It'd only give you 1/3 extra damage if you hit the enemies' weakness. Character's movement isn't an improvable stat until the second game, so it's fixed for everyone in the first game. Most melee characters can only attack on an adjacent tile in a cross formation, saves for the calvary units which can hit 2 tiles ahead in a cross formation and archers which can hit 5 tiles ahead in a cross formation. The spell casters attacks are weird though where they have fucked up attack range in checker formation or diamond formation, and I heard they are WAY better in the PS2 game. The 5 stats that you can raise are ATK stats which affect damage output of both melee, magic and healing strength. Defense stat reduces melee damage. I didn't bother putting points in Tech so I had no idea what it would do and it cost a fuck ton. Then there's Range-resistance and Magic-resistance which aren't terribly important until mid game. I beat the game with most of the casts pumped in strength. The first game was all around a really simple strategy game.

The PS2 version would have combo finishers where two characters next to each others can perform BIG damage. There's also collectibles in the PS2 version and extra scenes.

They really improved tons in the second game and third game. These two share similar gameplay, although each has its own nuance. First the biggest difference between them and the first game is that the game now allow you to undo up to 50 turns, during movement, during damage dealing phase and aftermath. It also gives you prediction of how the damage is gonna carry out if you choose a certain attack over another.

Attacks aren't simply "gone and done" anymore, but there's these minigames where you either have to hit X when the circle constricts near the bulls-eye, or hold O until it draws a full circle. It didn't explain it to you in the second game but between minigames, there are sweetspots that you have to tap x at the right time to multiply the damage. A predicted damage of 100 may end up doubled or even become times 2.5x. Best rhythm game ever

There's now a bar called Zeal and your unit gradually fill them as they attack or received damage. If they hit 100 Zeal they can attack or move again. Later on these are used for Finishers.

Stats wise there are now more categories to allot. There's speed which affects which unit go first and how many times it can move/attack in combat. Then there's movement which lets you expand units grids movement. There's Jump which count how many grids your unit can move vertically since battles are now fought in 3D. Range-resistance and Magic-resistance are all but gone and merged into DEF. HP is now a stat so you can increase max HP of tank units. This stat isn't very desirable until the third game which I will explain next.

There are codexes in the new games which allow units to perform feats. They start off simple like elemental resistance, to rarer codex that buff 30% dmg if unit is at 10% hp, or being able to survive at 1HP if dealt a fatal strike. These let you bring out the potentials of each units, as well as control how battles are fought..

Some overhaul in the third game such as how they make the minigames easier, added Combo-Finisher and reworked how stats behave as well as buffing codex while making certain ones rarer but farmable now.

The stages can now contain optional objective that if fulfilled, will yield rare codex or a different scenario. So if you are tasked to lure a really big fucker to a trap for a main objective but you ended up killing it before achieving that, then the game rewards you for doing so.

Oh and different attacks have different phases. Since some attacks can cause the enemies Zeal to fill, or they suddenly change element that work against you, so you can even control to which phase to stop at to achieve desirable result.

Hey, thanks for that writeup man. Everything you've said is actually pretty encouraging.

Are these "codexes" unique (to a point) for each individual unit?

No, it's on my PC but I have yet to get to it. I have a ton of VNs just sitting around waiting to be read.

That is a good point. They not only brought it back, but built upon it as well without trying to appeal to a wider audience. Well besides putting it on console/handheld. I don't really care about R-18 content and would rather it be on the Vita.

I heard the first one was no where near as good as the second game. You can go straight into the second game if you want. Sadly it's only for PS3 but I doubt it would be hard to emulate. One look at the gameplay and you'll realize it can't be that hard to emulate. Gameplay wise, I believe the new Utawarerumono games got their gameplay from this game. It plays like a better Fire Emblem. That's the easiest way to describe it.

Oh they can be swapped around I didn't mean the units gain them as they leveled up and get affixed, "Abilities" are what unique to each individual as seen here , they can get really unique, like there's one character who's got retard strength, but her body isn't developed yet, so one of her attacks would deal backlash damage dealing 2/3 of her health while dealing massive damage. Later on she learned the ability to survive during Overzeal state so these attacks that used to kill her on the spot now leave her alive at 10% health. Codex that boosts health / HP raising build helps here.

Some codex can get very specific though like "Increase jumping distance" so units that usually can't jump at all can take initiatives especially in Tuskur level where their military fight with insane ground advantage because they were trained under Benawi A favorite codex of mine is "fill Zeal to 100% when hp reaches 10% or under", this allows me to maximize potential of this girl . Atuy will get an Ability that allows her to have 50% chance to move/attack again upon killing an enemy, which only she gets it. So she would be the only person that can move 2 or 3 or even 4 times in a row, making her REALLY good for cleaning up trash mobs or taking a chunk out of a boss. She is squishy too so the Indomitable codex can then be paired with the other one to ensure that she gets into this Berserk state all the time and just have my healers clutch-heal her. It also fits her personality as a shocktrooper.

Ah shit nigger you shouldn't skip the first Uta. The first game is pretty short anyway which is around 20 hours while the 2nd game is around 80 hour, with the last game being a whopping 180 hours!. Also in case you haven't read the spoilers regarding the state of the world you might not want to start with Deception, as it will assume you knew of this fact and will throw it in your face at the beginning. It will go more indepth into the twist though.

With the improved combat, graphics and tripled the amount of content in Deception, plus the whole new cast and setting You aren't in Tuskur anymore, you're in Yamato, a country that is 50 times bigger than Tuskur, you could say it was made to be a standalone that new fans can enjoy. However you will definitely regret it in Truth when you finally be reunited with the rest of the old casts and not knowing who they are, the dopamine rush of seeing an important figure you used to play as won't hit you, especially him.

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (500x281, 234.15K)

I was talking about skipping the first Tears to Tiara game actually.

Oh
I'm a goddamn retard, sorry about that.

Attached: moe retard.png (480x270, 102.14K)

Yea that last sentence makes sense now. I love Uta's new combat and would like to see more of it.

Back then I got intrigued because I once read from an user about the insane synopsis that something's along the line of "a story about how a goddess descended to human realm to see why her followers stopped worshiping her but promptly got captured and killed because she was of enemy's god / the locals couldn't recognize her or something. That and the protag is the unluckiest person to ever grace the earth", do you know which one was it?

Aight, I'm sold now. I checked out my local areas earlier today and they didn't have it, so I'm off to go online shop for it.

Any difference between the vita and PS4 versions? Graphical downgrades for the vita?

Nothing much besides the day one edition physical goods I think, but since I haven't played the PS4 version I'm not entirely sure. A friend told me to get the Vita version as listening to the music with headphones on is better than on TV but that's up to you. My friend did replay Truth on PS4 though so I'll keep you updated if he said anything.

They either sold really well in Europe or probably got cleaned to make space for new titles.

That could have been me describing the game a while back. You're close but missed some points.

>Goddess descends to town after being weakened from a lack of faith from her people. Not understanding what's going on, she decides to help people around town telling them she's a goddess and healing them through nurture. Helps MC relieve some stress with a lap pillow.

That's where the game truly begins. I don't go over exactly what made that moment so impactful like the last time I explained it but I really like how they did this. The advisor from the empire does come off as a JRPG edgelord but the build up was good and the characters are likable.

Attached: The Prince.jpg (474x354, 28.36K)

Oh actually, I did remember while playing Truth my vita froze over a stage and that made me lose 2 hour of progression. I'm not sure whether it was because my vita is old as fuck or the game was running badly during that section. Lots of fire effects in the background and it was kinda jittery.

Oh shit it was you! This is the exact greentext I've read. I'll assume this is the second game then since you haven't played the first?

Sorry I asked too many questions, but yes this is the setting that got me interested. I love joke characters who are secretly OP and only splurge it in moment of need.
T-Time to watch playthroughs on youtube.

Yup, the second game.

MC is only a joke character in the beginning. He is pretty manly the rest of the game. I like how aggressive and blood thirsty he is to the usual protags you see in these type of games. He has no remorse slaughtering every empire lackey that he finds. Saying that, he is quick to get enraged whenever the milf traitor (pic related) shows up. She knows how to push his buttons too.

The actual joke character is your archer. He's a pretty reliable unit too. But the mages carry you early in the game as the MC can't take a hit or dish real damage until he gets some levels where he becomes pretty reliable. But the mages are what carry your team in hard mode.

Forgot to mention that the game should be easy to emulate at this point. It's not a demanding game what so ever. I do wish they would port their games to PC though. They're mainly visual novels anyway.

Attached: 636827.jpg (1920x1200, 1.31M)

That sounds even better. He probably snapped from all that pent up anger pretending to be retarded.

I always thought PS3 emulation is impossible but I'll give it a try. Have you tried emulating PS3?

Apparently it's playable

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (1109x31, 3.56K)

I love this series so much, I bought 2 copies of MoD (gifted one to a friend who probably still hasn't played it) and a copy of MoT even after pirating the Japanese version on ps3 (and later Vita). I still havent finished MoT though. I got pretty far playing the Japanese version (returning to the capital after teleporting away. Can anyone tell me how far along that was?) then the English versions came out and I thought I'd replay the English version (I probably only understood 85% of the dialogue because I was too lazy to manually look up the kanji). But I underestimated how fucking long it was and kinda shelved it 1/3 of the way through MoD.

1 thing I don't like about the series though is how it's not viable to use all characters. This is especially true in one. Want to switch things up? Too bad, your other characters are under levelled.

I hope they keep one's difficulty in the remake. I found MoD and MoT too easy. I'm sure everyone has wiped in the first and second stage of one on anything above normal.

For people wondering whether to get ps4 or vita version, the 3d scenes of the vita version do not render at the Vita's native resolution so it's kind of a pixelated mess. This can be fixed with the pirated version though but the pirated vita version also introduces bugs like blank item names and inability to transfer your save. Hopefully the upcoming 3.65 jailbreak will fix that situation.

I watched the anime and that made me play the game, which was really REALLY barebones, then i tried watching the new anime and god damn was it too anime so i lost interest

i really liked the original though

that is some shit artwork

The new anime was made by a director that never played the game or something and it was butchered.

Try the game out if you can.

Yeah the sequels' anime isn't that good, although unlike the first the anime barring the start is very different, i.e. doing a variety of missions for the city instead of more fucking bath scenes
As others have said the combat has much more to it than the original, so if your hesitant to play it due to the anime I wouldn't worry it skops over the vast majority of the plot and was clearly done by somebody with no further knowledge of the games.

How so ? All I can see wrong is the forearms.

Attached: 00009.jpg (1356x1920, 554.44K)

I won’t rag on you for being secondary but the anime was just promotional material. Me and my friend beat both Deception and Truth then when we finally get to watch the Deception anime it was VERY loosely based on the actual game. A lot of the plots where changed to cram an 80 hour game in a 24 ep anime and they messed with the protagonist’s personality too much like Making haku brood for 2 episodes after witnessing vurai, we were like “who let gundam director handled this?”. It’s really not a correct depiction of the story at all. The only trhing they did great was the slice of life section and the final episode which sort of redeemed that mess. is right that they're just animators who are too busy to play the game to know better.

Fun fact, its the same studio called White Fox that did the intros for both games.

You have 3 more boss fights to go through, about 30 hours left.

I played the first, it was decent, but it lacked better mechanics, gameplay was too shallow, are the other games better?

Yes, I’ve gone through some of the changes regarding the combat in here

One thing i forgot to include is that you should play the games in Hard mode. What this does is that the game adds more units and new enemy types to the battlefield and different placements. The enemies health stay the same, your damage stays the same. This means hard mode will help you in the long run as you get more exp from hitting more enemies.

if you beat the first uta 5 times in the hardest mode the game unlocks the final CG of Aruru half naked

oh nice, i like hard modes that actually add something and reward you in the long run

It’s not a hard game by any stretch and only a few battles had me cornered but it does encourage you to fulfill optional objectives that are more profitable. They’re usually there to prevent you from steamrolling everything.

You dont have to train everyone anyway, units like Itak or Maroro are temporary and doesnt have Combo finisher woth the main cast. There were some throwaway units like the baton guy in Kurura arc.

There’s also Red vs Blue training dojo option before you enter a battle where it takes 8 units of your roster and shuffle them up into two teams, the winner receives BP while everyone gets to earn exp. It’s a new feature in Truth that allow ease of grinding.

Seriously? After the nuke went off there still 30 hours?

5 times? I thought you just need to beat it once to unlock hard mode and then beat it in any hard modes to unlock the aruru CG.

Oh, is that how its done. I actually havent attempted that

Yep, there are about 4 stages left and shit gonna hit the fan TWICE, the final boss isn’t who you think he is, you won’t see it coming

You probably dropped it the moment they started going to war with the barbarian nations. Think back to the Urusharan general fight against Oshtor.

In the game Evankuruga is a race that is known for their honor and loyalty, "You march with Evankruga, you march with the righteous". They are also insanely strong warriors, some of the strongest sword fighters in the world, so killing one in battle is impressive. The barbarian general is actually an Evankruga, and Oshtor isn't that strong in his human form, chopping him down in two strokes is ridiculous. In the game Oshtor actually got pushed far enough and praised him for landing a cut to his monster form with only his sword, in which he promptly called him a monster before dying.

In the anime they they gave him A FUCKING HIDDEN SWORD ARM which turned him into some underhanded pussy that couldn't land a hit. Then had Oshtor cut him clean in half which left out Entua's final dialogue with him where he told her not to seek revenge. This is an important plot device because later on we were led to believe Entua after being accepted as Mikado's caretaker, her enemy's Emperor, she would have all the reason to poison their food, but refused to act on it because of her father's advice.

KINSLAYER
Honestly the only fight that pushed me to a corner, he's the worst boss than everything I've fought since he's got that AoE one shot attacks that also cause Fear to your units. It was the first fight that took my party down to two units. Fumirirul was absolutely crucial in this fight as her counter-heal ability can clutch-heal Oshtor as he faces the thing and he can clutch heal her back. The rest of the attacker units were basically canon fodders to distract him away from Fumirirul, as any attacks that let him counter would just buff him. Absolutely dreadful fight.

Also I didn't wanna go through with it again but did you manage to get the codex that the game rewards you if you kill Raikou first before killing the twink?

Attached: NOW WATCH ME NAE NAE.jpg (360x640 48.9 KB, 40.15K)

fug forgot to spoiler, can Mark fix this?

I gotchu fam

Ayy thanks

So how does Witsie's wish mechanic work? I was under the assumption that it's some sort of invasive monkey paw spell but in some cases the person didn't get afflicted with any backlash, some even got what they wanted. But then how did it turn a good portion of Yamato citizens into Noroi simply by whispering to them wishes?

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (360x640 340.64 KB, 301.45K)

I don't know if I got it or not, but I will assume so as I didn't kill him. I intentionally backed myself into a corner where he could not reach the rest of my units, while a few went up and blocked in the healer, then just slowly chipped his health down so as not to trigger his second form. I lost to his second form once and decided dealing with first was significantly easier, and it is. I only had a little trouble at the end when he finally punched through bird fortress and I had to chunk his last bit of health away quickly.

Nosuri and Ougi can dodge tank this thing??

Yea if you only had to kill his first form to end the stage then you did get the other codex I missed.

Meant Kokopo. I gave her a ton of health and defense, mixed with her natural abilities and some books, making her into a mobile fortress. The only thing that could get through her was excessive max health reduction. I really love how you can make tanky walls and lock down swarms of enemies in this game. Most other tactics games I've played have lacked that ability and it greatly upset me.

Oh you meant Rulutieh, yea seriously bless her massive ZOC, she's great for bunching up trash mobs in one place for an ally to shit spells on them.

My Cocopo died immediately despite having Indomitable codex, I also raised her in Def and Atk instead of Def and HP since I thought the HP scaling wasn't very good so I tried to tank with the little shadow elemental from the twins that absorb shadow damage 100%. I did manage to summon their little moth shikigami but before I could manage to tank anything Raikou hit it with the ridiculous melee in his third attack. Nothing could cheese him except throwing all your units at him and hope he dies before everyone does.>>14475612

The longer I lurk the thread, the more I want to play this. My copy can't arrive soon enough.

das it mane.

Not only that, but you can make multiple of them and they even get co-op chains together. Hammer and birdfortress best combo, shit can't handle the iron curtain.

Attached: Utawarerumono_ Mask of Truth_20170919120954.jpg (1920x1080 210.3 KB, 335.58K)

What Rulutieh do in Uta is that she doesn't just have high HP and def, she also recovers 10% of her HP each turn so it was my mistake not to raise her HP, as the self-recovery scales much better in Truth. She can also lock trash mobs that come into contact with her in place so an aggro codex is especially good on her. Later on the bird can learn Intimidating aura that push enemies away from their turns so your party can act first.

She's also the one with the best mobility since it's a rider with a mount. She's basically a paladin type because she mainly tank, party buffs and AoE debuffs enemies. She's better fit facing a lot of mobs though.

Munechika is more like your classic slow moving tank that can deal moderate damage and aggro on command. Her tanking power is way better than birdie and she's better fit facing bosses.

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (1331x706, 805.33K)

Exceedingly exquisite. Her tail is the fluffiest and I thought she was the best girl while watching the anime, so this pleases me greatly. I hope the game lets you pick and chose your squad at almost all times. If so, she's number 1.

Ye you can swap her in in most battles. Only a few stages where she isn't with the party that she's out of service. Just a heads up, it's gonna benefit you in the long run to try to level up everyone equally though. I know it's a pain if you came from the first game that had no grinding but everyone doesn't have to be all on the same level just repeat a stage once or twice with under leveled units after beating it and don't drop anyone besides Maroro and Itak

The anime was excellent in the Rulutieh department, I'll give them that.

Dead set fucking legend. Thanks user.

Attached: thumbs up.jpg (173x215, 6.38K)

You might have done something to make that true, but in my experience nothing could top the birdfortress simply because of all her health, defense, self heals, and control. I stacked health and defense on hammer as well, but she just couldn't take things as well as bird, so I used her as secondary tank paired with a heavy hitter in times where I had to split my forces. This was the first mission where I truly learned their tanking magic, using them to intercept the swarms and cover my ass while the main force pushed forward. Bird managed to handle everything below and come up the right side all on her own while I had to bring hammer back to heal and help push with main force.
Another thing I really loved about this game is how hopeless a lot of missions can seem, then you overcome them and feel awesome, only for the next one to be even more hopeless. I mean, you fight that lizard at the start and see it one shot a unit and nearly kill a few others, you cant even imagine fighting two at once after that, then it happens. Overcoming despair like that is great.

Attached: Utawarerumono_ Mask of Truth_20170917060756_1.jpg (1920x1080, 407.29K)

Yea I raised them both in Atk + Def focus build instead of pure tank builds like yours and my Munechika ended up being more useful as a tank than birdie, from your experience I could have an easier time had I made them pure tanks.

I think the reason why I liked characters who pretend to be retarded to hide their powerlevel because I ended up liking Maroro a lot despite neglecting his unit in the 2nd game. This goofy motherfucker is on par with Raikou's genius when he plans his battle. The guy could have been one of the Pillar had he not serve under that retarded fatty, and what an awful life to lead when you're one of the very few to achieve what was basically entry to Havard but none of that meant anything in the end. Also in that image the guy prepared that squad of priests not to hunt you down but to protect himself in the worst case scenario. The stink bomb users are spread in a zig zag formation so as to thin your forces out and keep them that way as long as possible while his shikigamis bum rush you and made sure to protect his debuff priests. Fighting him required a fuck ton of diversion as Munechika could only protect if everyone hurdled together so anyone sent to distract him were as good as dead.

Also if you noticed he's learned from the previous fight with you where he got ambushed from behind, so he ran to this location where there's nothing but a sheer cliff behind him. The guy covered all hindsights like a good tactician would. That was another terrifying stage that I didn't bother to replay due to winning in close shave. Rest in peace you magnificient kabuki homo.

I did thinking it was cute fantasy shit with total war elements. Got the surprise of my life and the scifi shit makes no fucking sense.

Yea near the end of the first Uta everything was just taken for granted. Later games do make an effort to revisit and tie those knots though, like what happened after they fired the Amaterasu and how the animal people survived and propagated afterward. I can try explaining which part that didn't make sense to you if you want although anything regarding Kamyu I've already gone through here

OP's friend here. These aren't story spoilers or anything. This specific scene I've had to replay like 3 times because of how funny it is seeing the incredibly reserved Munechika trying to entertain a little kid.

Uta 2 has to be one of the few games that has a child character that I don't wanna strangle,
Shinonon's bullying of Kirwyu is adorable and her attempts at Mount Oshtor.
I remember getting shocked during the final boss fight remembering she was present and still alive somehow

I got Mark of Deception to play on my Vita TV. Played about 10 hours, and then went away for a while and forgot about it. I should pick it back up sometime, I enjoyed what I played.

I saw Mask of Truth at the games store the other day and wanted to pick it up to encourage me to finish the first one, but it had a waifu pillowcase with it and I was too embarrassed to buy it.

It's not like they'll hand you the daki separately and flaunt it before purchase, they are neatly concealed inside the game box. If you're afraid of family members finding out about your daki just turn it into an improvised poster or sell it.

If you like Deception you'll definitely get Truth as it ends on a cliffhanger.

That was originally an eroge is it

Didn't mean to spoiler that one, can Mark fix this?

My copy arrived! Now that I've read the little booklet, it's time to pop this badboy open after watching anime.

Excellent you'll enjoy the characters' developments a lo-
Shit nigger what are you doing.

Can't stop you but I do advise to stop watching after episode 4 because the anime starts doing character assassination after that point.

Attached: 1408875359018.png (493x536, 305.87K)

I'm dissapointed that the game so quickly forgot about Kuon's good, It was too cute to be forgotten.

If that was their intention they've probably fucked up, although the move from eroge to console is probably helping them, still wish there where pc versions, h-scenes or not, since i'd prefer to use a mouse.
I just wish they'd would release a scale of someone other than Nekone

The lack of H in this is killing me. Just fucking killing me. What a waste.

I'm about 5 hours in, pacing myself with a battle a day. When do I get the loli empress in my party? I need her.

I can't remember the exact timestamp but maybe about 15 hours in, it's after you've encountered Nosuri in the bathhouse and made candy with Rulutieh. The game then starts introducing the Pillar Generals and she'll be there. Don't worry the game will start dumping lewds after lewds at one point.

Who have you met so far? Is Atuy introduced yet?

I'm just about to head off from the Kujyura village after meeting best girl. Probably not even started the "real game" at the capital yet, but real life issues and a tremendous amount of anime have prevented me from going too much quicker.

Is there any way of preventing the screen dimming when using auto-text? That triggers my autism like none other. Also that is ecchi at best. I need H, man. P○n○s in vag○○ type shit.

That sounds like you have some power-saving setting on your vita. Change it in the vita's Setting, maybe its under brightness.

Leaf have made eroge so their artist will probably agrees. Tatsuki also made some softcore pics of Kuon and Nekone but that's it, aquaplus contract probably prevents him from doing more to her, otherwise he'd have no qualm about it.

is it furry?

I've scoured the settings repeatedly and still haven't managed to disable this piece of shit. Maybe I'm overlooking something simple and obvious, but I don't know. The power settings tab itself gives no option to turn it off.

Oh mama, tell me that is official and in the game. I already know you can't give the dickings to Aruru, but this will suffice to encourage me to go back and play that one.

I didn't know you can't turn off auto-dim on the vita, that's fucking stupid. You need to install henkaku and change some value in the registry I think. I've never done this.

Yes and yes! Once you beat the game on hard, beat it again on the new hard difficulty and you'll unlock it. There's another pic

what's wrong with groupsex tbhf

MFF, sure. But MMF is cuck shit.

I hate NTR too but that's just reaching, there's an absent of the girl's significant other. Are you one of those weirdos that claim watching porn makes you a cuck?

No, but I'm not the kind of guy who likes sharing.

Fair enough

Anyway an interesting thing happened during my Kurou boss fight. My Kuon was one hit away from dying and it was his turn, he could have killed her right then and there. However he then changed target and pursued Haku instead. It was weird because the AI in this game is very opportunistic and would always finish off anything that's dying especially if they're right next to them. It then dawned on me that despite his talk about how he wouldn't hesitate to kill even The Lord's precious child, he was just trying to scare her off playing rebel. Quite subtle.
