Humanism

Why do so many bash humanism here? I'm not a humanist myself but my favorite author was and furthermore he was a socialist because he was a humanist

It can have aims contradictory to leftist aims.

Humanism is attached to a bunch of movements and thinkers that aren't remotely leftist or have leftist aims.

In the off chance that I can randomly guess who you mean in your post Sartre was a fool and I hate him. Simone is my BAE though, would finger in a cafe.

Good guess but I actually meant vonnegut

Well you cant go wrong with Vonnegut.

humanists > structuralists.

LEFEBVRE and KOLAKOWSKI not ALTHUSSER and POULANTZAS mmkay?

for some reason, pointing out that humans are special is a bad thing apparently

Because most humanists end up fetishizing their conception of humanity and are unable to grasp how humans actually function. It may be a good starting point entry, but alot of the entry points to socialism are filled with ideological baggage that keeps you from seeing the situation clearly, whether it is Christianity, Social Democracy or, especially in modern times, Humanism.

...

read Marx

I think you should actually

When you talk about 'humanity' you're not talking about all existing humans. You're talking about some concept that doesn't really exist. It's like talking about a 'nation'.

That's one of the spookiest and most retarded things I have read on this board today. Good job buddy.

Nothing is special.

is humanism basically synonymous with anthropocentrism?

humanists confirmed for furries

...

no not at all, you can be a fascist anti-humanist and still be anthropocentric. its the idea of an ideal transcendent essence of mankind or standard of humanity we are aspiring to be like or create on earth through social change. its the basis of human rights and whatnot

Really? Well, in that case, that's one of the spookiest and most retarded things I have read on this board today.

But it's true. I don't even like Stirner, but "humanity" is as much of an imagined community as any nation.

yeah its the entire basis for social liberalism, classical liberal economics and pretty much most late enlightenment political philosophy. Its spooked as fuck

Yeah, I'm gonna need a source on this

well we are

come back when another species lands on the moon

Read Straw Dogs, OP.
