Even if they weren't the most attractive people before they butchered themselves; why would they want something like this? How can anyone say that this isn't a mental illness? They physically destroy their appearance, alienate themselves in the process, and then get put on antidepressants (probably not a good idea with a hormone imbalance) because they know and everyone else around them knows that they are living a lie. Why couldn't these people just work on bettering themselves through handwork and perseverance, or undergo therapy designed to help them cope with whatever twisted desire makes them want to mutilate themselves? Instead of actually helping these people deal with their fucked up issues, medical professionals give them all the hormones and surgery that they "desperately" need in a vain attempt to superficially change their bodies which will magically make them happy. I don't even know how we got to this point where enabling this behavior is acceptable. Barring the (((obvious))), that is.

Even if a cure for a major disease were found by one of the big companies, they can't just bump up the price of the cure to match the revenue from treatments. It'd be horrible for PR, and all profitability would become hinged on keeping the manufacturing process a secret.
One of the other facets would be the lucrative unfalsifiable world of antidepressants and treatment of mental illness. Look at the drugs and when the big studies showing adverse health effects and inefficacy that render them completely unmarketable. You might find a rather consistent pattern of such studies appearing right around the time the patents are about to expire and a little while after some new and improved wonderdrug that's twice as effective and has less side-effects shows up on the market. Scorching the earth with such reports makes sure the generics market can't barge in on that market share and keeps everything running smoothly.
