It used to be different, it had the dubious honor of being one of those breakaway things that made citing obscure vidya you never played popular with hipsters and what would later become tumblrettes. The theory everyone throws around is that it's because it's supposed to be about how all the people in the comic, barring a few of them, are completely egoistical and self centered, with Scott at the helm of this brigade of misfits, and how all of them cannot process being in a healthy, normal relationship until some high school nerd starts beating some sense into them. Also half the stuff is gaming related because Scott is very unreliable a narrator and 90% of the story is told from his PoV (excluding when they clearly show he beat up some poor kid for being the boyfriend of one of his cushes) and it's supposed to kind of represent some repressed feelings of the author (who is pretty much IRL Scott as far as behavior goes, with the greatest thing to ever happen in his life being the shutting down of his own dA account because of RockCock64's trolling).

I bought it back at release as well as the 2 DLCs as they came out. The game might as well be tattooed onto my PS3's hard drive. Shame it didn't have an online mode until 2 years after it released and you had to pay for it. Still managed to get all the trophies for it

If you know nothing about the IP, then the game is a really good beat-em up. Controls are responsive, breaking shit's fun, and picking up coins is addicting. The spritework is really sharp, although not everyone might like the style, and the music is pretty banging throughout. Honestly the music might be the most memorable part of the game for me, but I've co-op'd the game a ton of times so that's probably why. However, if you're familiar with Scott Pilgrim than the game is still good, but it'll probably leave a bad taste in your mouth due to the association with the rest of the series. Also I can't help but see the fucking numale mouthgape when I look at the cover now.
