so many revolutions have fallen thanks to to the imperialist beast that is America. (Yugoslavia, Chile, Democratic Kampuchea, Grenada, ect.).
It's a super advanced country with insane wealth inequality probably the most corrupt government in the developed world.
A communist America is necessary for world wide socialist revolution. The question is. How do we get it?
The American military is the largest in the world. It has so many weapons at it's disposal. How can we ever hope to over throw it?
Also many americans aren't very motivated. How do we motivate them to take down the system.
Not quite sure we could get it democratically, considering how corrupt the government is, how they rigged it against Bernie who was just a basic center left socdem, and how the bourgeois government has no problem toppling democracy in other countries.
Is there anyway to get a significant portion of the army on our side somehow? Can we have a revolution without a full on civil war? Do we have to wait for some disaster to happen or for the american government to collapse on it's own.
I really want to hear some solutions considering you guys have probably also thought about it.
you mean to tell me we don't already have communism after our glorious obama raised his negro army and took up everyone's guns before instating martial law and forcing everyone to convert to islam?
Kayden Lewis
Any movement that succeeded in the US would have to be radically different then anything being offered today by the left. It would need a solid majority of the population to be sympathetic including right-wing militias, military members, rural people and many others the left dismisses as reactionary.
For starters: 1. No "big government" ie powerful federal centralized authority. I think a bookchin esque idea of radical devolution of powers to local sphere would be appealing to Americans.
2. Complete absence of Idpol. Many Americans are actually reactionary. Left-wing obsession with Race, Gay Marriage, Trannies etc. turns a lot of people away. This doesn't mean these people should be thrown under the bus but making it such a central part of our ideology is counterproductive. There is also already a powerful mainstream movement fighting for these people (in a narrow identitarian sense) we should be the ones who fight for them in a broader economic sense.
3. Complete disavowal of xxth century communist experiments especially the USSR. There is a lot of nuance to what happened in these places, but it doesn't help us to point this out. US citizens have been hopelessly brainwashed by a 60 year level smear campaign that pervaded every level of society. Maybe this will change in the future, but I doubt it.
4. Making leftism part of working class culture. I don't really know how you go about recreating this but it was a phenomenon in the past. Certainly sitting out of the culture wars would help as the liberal side is associated with the cosmopolitan urban upper classes. Also avoiding smugness and moralizing at people. The most important thing is probably showing a real capacity to fight for the working class and win them real material gains by strategically advocating for reforms.
Andrew Perez
actually reactionary* word filters to actually reactionary in 2. to clarify. Pretty stupid thing to have a filter on IMO.

The problems with an American revolution are multifold. For starters, the contiguous US is a very big place, and while the revolution might've worked in Russia, the technological capabilities of armies back in those days were vastly different from what they are today. Back then, armored warfare was essentially unheard of, aircraft were few, and guided missiles had yet to be invented. If any revolution were to break out, it'd have to amass a veritable arsenal of military hardware, and somehow train its constituents on how to use it. (Though TBF, that latter part could be accomplished through PDFs of field manuals leaked by sympathizers.)
However, the biggest issue in the US is, like you said, lack of motivation. Us Americans are cowed by our employers; they control our healthcare, whether we eat or starve; in some cases, their whims dictate the most important decisions of our life.
As for solutions? Welp, the chief reason I see people (especially proles) support conservatives is because the Democrats (essentially what passes for "the left" around here) apparently want to take away their guns, apparently want to flood the country with Mexican immigrants, apparently gives concessions for "special snowflakes", and apparently are made of intellectual elitists who're completely out of touch with the American proletariat. (I mean, they kinda are.)
If we could alter the public's perception of the left; push a more populist, pro-gun, anti-idpol narrative; then a socialist America would essentially be guaranteed. The problem is getting to that point.

Maoist style people's war

What's the wordfilter? Put the star in the middle.
So we need to replace the neoliberalism and idpol "left" with actual leftism. I think the solution is just a PR campaign. If people realize what the left is about they'll contribute out of self interest.

Aye, agreed. The revolution won't be fought on dirt and asphalt, but within the hearts and minds of the proletariat.
Jacob Green
Easier said than done. The only effective method we have to convey a message is word of mouth and America is a large place with low population density.
Jordan Long
This is probably why the CIA funded womens groups in the civil rights era, that kind of obnoxious idpol just repels the average working class person from the left. There's probably no chance of removing it and becoming appealing to the working class at this point SJW nonsense is a part of the leftist rubric.
I would even say the 'left' actually hates working class people, despises them utterly. You're either a cosmopolitan SJW douche or you can die as far as /r/socialism types are concerned. and they ARE the majority.
Camden Bennett
I think you work for the Democratic Party and should talk less and slit more.
Xavier Campbell
the attitude is actually really paternalistic
naughty working class doesn't get to have power until they apologise for being so dumb and awful. now sit in the poverty corner, drink your lead filled water, slowly kill yourself with opioids and think about what you've done. maybe we'll do something good for you once you've written your 3 page essay about the importance of transgender bathrooms and how women need control of the thermostat.

The problem is youre starting a revolution, not instigating acts of insurrection. Have fun with that ideology

sounds a little bit like deleonism, deleonism has a history in america already. That may be a good place to start.

guys I wanted to talk less about spreading class consciousness and more about, how we can actually overthrow the government. Considering they have such a strong military.
I'm also open to hearing about methods other then revolution.

There's already communism in america, look at cuba and venezuela. Hope those breadlines crank back up, they're losing weight.

Therein lies both the greatest hurdle and the most enticing possibility. Trying to fight the entire U.S. military either with conventional or durrilla tactics is about like trying to break down a brick wall using only your skull. It is so profoundly interconnected and specialized that entire theaters can be controlled centrally like a video game.
That's the trick right there! Because the U.S. military is so interconnected and specialized, it must be whole to function properly. The thing is, it's not one whole, and I am not talking about the differences between branches. In recent decades, as a cost-saving measure many functions of the greater federal military have been parted out to the various National Guards operated by the member states. National Guards have seperate chains of command. They also have unions, which I was shocked to learn. National Guards are not complete armies, although ostensibly they should be. Their units have been specialized to serve as components of the federal military. If you want to fracture the federal military, breaking off some National Guards by seizing control of member states would go a tremendously long way.
Another way in which the U.S. military is fractured is its increasing reliance on mercenaries. The historically literate know how perilous it is to rely heavily upon mercenaries. Contractors, as they are called, perform several vital functions from supplying labor to doing maintainance to guarding gates. They are spectacularly expensive. If funding could be cut to mercenary groups, they would immediately become unreliable.
Ian Torres
so do you think it's possible that with this fracturing and unionization it's possible too get groups of the army on our side by spreading class consciousness?
Aaron Green
Losing enough National Guards would be catastrophic for the federal military. They operate most of the bases stateside as well as all the other things they do. The bitch of it is that doing that would require seizing state governments. We would need actual socialist state governors. A presence in their unions would help as well.
Luke Young
but don't you think the bourgeoisie will get wise to this. I doubt they'll let too many socialists get into power. You've seen what they have done to other democracies around the world. You saw what they did to bernie, and he is only a very light center left socdem.
Jaxson Brown
Start by getting organized.
For all the burgers out there, check out your local DSA or Democracy at Work or other socialist org in your area.
I mean trying the democratic way can't hurt our cause.
Kevin Ross
The point is more than we must participate in bourgeoisie parliamentary politics to build up an organized workers movement.
Leo Torres
I agree, I'm just not sure if we this can help us with what you described.
Gabriel Fisher
People always overestimate how hard it'd be to do this There's tons of military bases and warehouses on US soil, many of which aren't even guarded
Plus, if a revolution does occur, it's likely parts of the military would defect Anyways, as far as "overthrowing the government", if, rather when civil war happens the government is over. The US would undergo a long term civil war, probably a decade with a mix of low and high intensity periods of violence before balkanizing. Probably a ball park of at least 10-30 million dead by the end with a certain dose of ethnic warfare breaking out in parts of the country
Elijah Hernandez
I agree. Conventionally it is impossible for a proper socialist to be elected to an office like state governor. It will require a real movement that breaks the control that the bourgeoisie exert over the masses.
Justin Evans
God, I hope that we have some more actual military guys with us when the revolution happens. I hate to think that idiot smashies are going to try to establish strategy.

No, but the title question was "how to create a communist america?". That was my answer for step one. Gotta get the people on the side of the people's party.

While that is entirely true–small arms are completely useless against a proper modern military–rifles are useful against the paramilitary thugs that Porky will throw at us first. Remember that it was the American Legion, not the cops or the military, that murdered the IWW members in Centralia.

I think you mean the People's Republic of Kampuchea. Democratic Kampuchea was supported by the US. They even tried to get Pol Pot back into power afterwards. The PRK, while it faced near isolation, restored the country to pre-war standards of living and revitalized the economy. But due to US support of the Khmer Rouge guerrillas, the PRK was forced to dissolve. But the leader of the PRK, Heng Samrin, is still seen by many as a national hero.

In the U.S.A, Marxist-Leninism or anything even slightly resembling 20th century leftism would be a no-go. You would first need to have a "market socialist" decentralised economy before full collectivisation, such as the movements in:
It would be best to avoid even using the word "socialism" when trying to win over people living in rural areas, because they associate it with the Cold War the USSR nuclear bomb scares.
As for older people, most of them are a lost cause. The baby boomer generation especially is beyond saving.
As for liberals, you would need to get them to support gun ownership because respect for gun ownership would be absolutely essential for winning over most of the population. This shouldn't be too hard though, in fact many liberals are changing their minds on gun control after Donald Trump's election victory.
The biggest problem would be dealing with the military, anything like a "people's war" would not work in the U.S at all even with prepared militias just because of how stupidly-bloated the U.S military is. You would need to somehow win over large portions of the U.S army and stage a coup.

create a full on civil war. collapsing it would be good too.
start revolutions in as many countries as possible.
