Space Thread - You will never into Space Edition

Daily reminder that we will never get a good Stargate game or a complete Stragate Mod.

Is this even theoretically possible?

I got friends who like the Sins Stargate mod, they complain that it's not balanced correctly though.

Any mod that's based off an IP is usually terribly balanced.

Guess it's screenshot dump time already.

I have a semi related question:

Does anyone know where I can get low-poly models of a few 40K imperium ships?

I'm making a VR chat map and want them up as background decor.
The SINS and EmpireAtWAr have 40K mods, but no way for me to convert/export from the native game format.

...

Just when it was getting gud it ended. Truly that was the final death kneel of the SciFi channel.

I was pissed that they cancelled the show just when the writers were finally embracing the genre and the setting. It was interesting to have some philosophical stuff and they way they portrayed the new alien races.

Defiance could've been great if they knew what to do with it.
Have you seen Stargate: Origins? It's the MGM answer to STD.

How is the Stargate mod for Sins of a Solar Empire?

With Empire at War you will need to find a tool that can convert .alo format. 3ds max has tools available for this. I have no idea what model format Sins of a Solar Empire since I've never played around with modding that. I wager that it will be easier than working with Empire at War though.

Have you tried to get the models from Battlefleet Gothic? They are likely the most detailed ones you will find unless you can find a 3d modeler who has spend a week or two making such models.
Supposedly the guys working on the Veratim Imperialus mod are trying to find a way to extract and use those models.

I've already fucked myself over with Star Wars and Star Trek by watching the new shit, I want to leave Stargate pure.

I wish there were more mods like Stargate TC, that Half Life mod was fun.

What is the best Space 4X game?

I heard Endless space 2 is pretty good

Soi Soi Motherfucker.

Endless Space 2, but it gets really good when you play it with friends.

Aurora

NEvermind.

Found a a converter that supports over 700 3D model formats!

give me some comfy spess games, anons.

No, it's shit.

Try SOTS, Distant Worlds or .. wtf was the name. It was a RT and you could build ships of any size, with only resources and time as a limit (one user dumped all the empires resources into a generational project to build the biggest fucking AI doomship ever. His empire was destroyed just as it finished building and the ship now roams the stars, anihhilating any hostile species it encounters)

Try Vegastrike. It's opensource, has decent music, and is fucking broken. 0.4.3 version is the one you want

It's cool, but holistically it's shit.

Star Ruler 1?

Yes, Star Ruler, that's it!
I think I played 2.

If you liked the shipbuilding in 2 you should try 1, it has a lot more freedom. Get the Galactic Armory mod too.

Anyone wanna play some?

Shoot me dead, but I'm kinda excited to play the upcoming Stellaris update. At least they're adding some content now, although I still know I'll ultimately be disappointed.

What exactly was wrong with Stellaris?

Can the guy even code properly?

I think it's made by a Slav so it does't use code, more so magic from a technomage.

aside form the atrocious combat system?

Severe lack of content. No proper diplomacy or trade, no espionage at all, combat is just blobs where the bigger number wins, every succesful war had to end with practically all enemy fleets destroyed and planets occupied, broken ground combat (number of defence armies very limited, no limit on invading armies), no sector governor AI (even though you had to create sectors once your empire got big).
Some of these things are being changed in the new update, like the wargoals, fleet sizes and space and ground combat. And I think they've actually put in Sector Governor AI by now. Of course if you want end game content, you better fork up those shekels, goy!

imagine an early access game that has potential, but never actually goes anywhere

And it hasn't been updated in forever because he's porting the entire game to a completely different coding language.

Why haven't we played Joint Operations Stargate mod?

Elitefags, how good is a 40 million per hour grind?

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Just like every grind you subject yourself to.

...

Why is he holding my clock?

Has anyone else tried this game?
Does it even count as a space game
You are in a spaceship that's in low orbit with a planet. You have to use a rover to go down to the surface and bring back artifacts to research. You can use these to upgrade your rover or just to improve your high score.

Personally I don't like the radiation mechanic they added, it just shortens the game so you can't see how little content there actually is

Here you gomagnet:?xt=urn:btih:9ce9e444cf2ff51bb3eda752b3918178c771e7d9

Doesn't sound bad as a concept but if it doesn't have much content then it will be shit. Thanks for magnet I need to put up an updated Pulsar Lost Colony sometime

this game is not comfy, but it feels good when you actually know how almost everything works after fighting against the damn controls

Sounds like you didn't fly so good?

this picture reminds me of a picture or the artist don't remember their name

for shame, user.

Is Elite Dangerous worth buying yet?

Last time I played it was still a badly developed multiplayer game so no.

or

Grinding gets harder every patch thanks to the loud forumdads who can't play games that don't feel like hard labor.
Seriously, every time someone finds a good way to make money they patch it out because no fun allowed.

the second next popular swedish cultural export after cuckoldry just got a new expansion
lets find out if its still shit it propably is

All Hallowed are the Ori.

Brad Wardell thought it was in a good place right now. Maybe I'll give it another go to see if I won't die of boredom after twenty hours.

Which game?

Steallaris

Oh, I'll be over there playing Distant Worlds Universe.

if yer gonna try and claim superiority at least do it right bucko

If you post about it, Brother I will follow you giggling all the way.

This one?
pixiv.net/member_illust.php?id=3624756

Hey so my friends and I were looking for a space game to lay together. Think like the Star Trek MMO but you can be a team on the same ship. I'm okay with menumenumenu like Aurora but they want more of a 3-d experience. Anything like this exist?

Pulsar lost colony.

My autism isn't strong enough.

Search multicrew videos about Elite Dangerous, but read the posts above, it sucks outside of pvp unless you and your firends are massive autistic roleplayers.
Basically you can control the ship or a turret weapon if you are not the captain, or alternatively some ships can deploy small fighters and you can pilot one.
Ships support 1, 2 or 3 people depending on size.
Also sometime by the end of this year you are supposed to be able to purchase a Fleet Carrier and all your friends can park and launch from that big ship.

The good old days.

STO was never good

sounds like my experience with it

Seconding Pulsar, it's good though a bit limited on replayability.

a) the game was always bad
b) those first two images are nothing but lies, ground combat was fucking terrible and boring

pulsar seems like it has so much potential but it's just empty shallow and dumbed down to the furthest extreme. it should have been more like multiplayer dcs on the same ship in space

Hasn't Elite: Dangerous had some exploit for YEARS that allows you to avoid losing your ship by simply disconnecting?

Distant Worlds Universe

Fuck no, if anything it's just gotten more bloated

I got into Aurora for a while but combat is so simplistic and dogshit that there's nothing I really look forward to in the game. There is no real-life element to it, it's all black-and-white hitpoint damage values and armor layers, also fleet fire-control management makes me want to fucking tear my hair out.

distant worlds universe is a semi shit game that will jam due to code inefficiencies if you play a space opera scenario with lots of races, biggest universe and lots of stars. It really could have been significantly better if the devs didn't suck cock and optimize it so that by mid game you won't get stutters that put it at like 3 frames per second before it comes to a complete halt for another second. I wanted to like it, but I can't like what I can't play. Genociding inferior races was a refreshing minor thing that is lacking in all the cuck 4x games.

mate.

Once the ship is lost? yes but it has to happen while you are away from your ship, i.e not sitting in the cockpit.

but since there are several ways to quit a battle before melting, you don't even need to use that often.

right now i lost my whole fleet against some damn OP xenos

stellaris ironically enough has seven different flavors of holocoaster

I recorded around 4 hours of gameplay but there was absolutely fucking nothing of note happening so Ill just TL;DR:

I abandoned the save because it was becoming increasingly clear that my civ build was shit
Ill do a proper playthrough later with screencaps and webbums

Is there a soundtrack that's captured the emptiness of space as well as the music artem bank did for star ruler?

SR soundtrack was pretty generic tbh

I can't wait to see how they fuck it up. I'm still pissed about only being able to launch one fighter because of the online that I totally ignore.

It wasn't generic, it was unassuming and played as an atmospheric backdrop to a slow game mostly about colony ships drifting through the vast emptiness of space, as well as the slow and steady ramping up of a galactic economy before it explodes into a brutal genocide. It portrays a space empire perfectly. Yours is more generic you shittaste.

The calmer, ambient parts of Avorion's soundtrack were unexpectedly good. For Star Ruler, though, great as the game was, I don't see what anybody would particularly like about its soundtrack, which is so generic, lifeless, and disconnected that it sounds like it was assembled piecemeal off of a bunch of royalty-free music stores. The whole thing is bargain basement Space Chillout with a bunch of boring synthetic orchestral tracks thrown in for no reason.

you have to be at least 18 in order to post on this board

Obligatory.

I want everyone in this thread to internalize that if there is EVER a new LOGH game to be made,
its gonna be based on nuLOGH

But will it be inspired by LOGH? :^)

It's especially hilarious because, one, devs are cucked swedistanis and two, it's actually one of the better ways to play the game

And now you never will thanks to Cryptic changing shit so i can no longer summon my 16 security escorts.

Yesterday there was another space thread with a KSP-like/Aurora management game. What was its name? I remember only bits - something "death" and "child".

I hop on every now and then to take my ships out of a spin and pretend I'm going to get somewhere.
If I had some people to chat with while playing I'd probably log on more.
Once you get your Conda/Corvette/Clipper all that's left is the tedium of engineering.

Found it - Children of a Dead Earth

Engineering is one of the worst system I have seen in a game in a a while. Sandro Sammarco couldn't design his way out of a paper box, they should had let go that disaster on two legs after the abortion that was the 2.0 series pf expansion. Ot nearly killed the game.

Shittily coded user interface that causes most of the lag you experience in late game.

I never got past the take back your base mission because after beating it I decided to restart the mission and then got bored

is it fun if you install an chinese mod?

how could you?!

its time to learn moonrunes.

...

Looking into Pulsar, pushing Elite Dangerous as well. One already owns it so hoping we can get other two on board. Thanks anons.

RIP

killer soundtrack, could loop that all day.

I'm tired

...

Another day another speship.

I thought you said apeship and was thinking Niggers in space?

GAY NIGGERS FROM OUTER SPACE

Next Pulsar game

I havent been this infuriated in a while now
had to reload and force surrender through debug tools because no way in hell this is working as intended

As far as i know, Klingon and Romulan tactical captains were able to do that as well.

Is there a mod based on The Orville yet?

No but an average Pulsar Lost Colony playthrough with Holla Forums comes close.

Okay one IMMENSE improvement is fleet templating.
What it essentially allows you to do, in combination with multi-queue shipyards is to stockpile minerals in peacetime and then rapidly mobilize once a war rolls out by pressing "reinforce", which automatically disperses build orders between all your shipyards.

The early game is very tedious now, I fear. Every bloody system has to be manually done, you have to worry about manual expension and when it comes to an early war it seems impossible to actually get a killing blow in, you can only pinch a territory or two. It doesn't help the AI is a cheating nigger and can drop a fleet twice your size with no way to pay the upkeep for it.

Stellaris has plenty of problems but the AI doesn't cheat resources. Maybe your economy is just shit.

Yes there definitely needs to be an autoclaim mechanic.

Wars are now work in a much more realistic way, in my opinion. You always fought for territory anyway (In the form of planets, then), you simply have more control over which territories you want.
War exhaustion is a good idea, but as of now it is so severely, so utterly and completely out of tune that it feels like a gigantic fucking hassle to do anything with it, so I'll agree

Play any purifier or Barbaric Despoilers. They're fighter's keepers that disregard entirely the claim system.

Distant Worlds hands down.
I feel like the fucking mongols. Almost every enemy ship gets boarded and hijacked while they are swatting fighters away and then used against their own as auxiliaries.
Same with mining and defence stations.

I worded that poorly, I meant the building of starbases.

this shit is ridiculous
it is extremely EZ to just anschluss parts of the territory but its nigh impossible to actually vassilize

Aurora4x for complexity
Sword of the Stars for FUN

So what was your first Space game/the one that really got you into the genre? Mine was Star Trek Starfleet Academy for the 32X (yes I was the only kid I knew who had a 32X). Before this game I had only played really simple console platformers and such, the complexity was pretty overwhelming at the time in comparison to other titles, but I ended up really liking it and other games felt lacking in comparison which resulted in me drifting away from consoles and into the realm of PC gaming. The space battles are clunkier than they should be since you aim with the dpad instead of a mouse or flight stick, but aside from that I think it holds up pretty well, though that may be due to nostalgia.

Dark Star One. I can't remember any older space game I played.

X-wing Starfighter, following that, Imperium Galactica 2 and Freespace. I spend some time playing the Descent series, but only when visiting others, so I never got that much into it.

Privateer 2 : The Darkening

Either space quest or wing commander or some old starwars game. Most likely space quest.

This raises a lot of questions.
Are you Andorian Waifu user?

The correct answer is Master of Orion 2.

I can't remember the name of it, but it was a top-down 2D kinda lighthearted explorey, sandbox-like game. A main focus of it was trading in bulk, you could have a fleet and such, but it was very, iunno, old fashion. Even back when I played it. Only specific detail I can recall is that there was a planet full of Scotts or Irishmen or the like which got glassed. Got me hooked on the entire genre.
If anyone knows what I'm talking about please tell me. This has legitimately kept me awake some nights

I felt like the Halo mod for SotSE was fairly well balanced. They managed to make a playable game where one faction has shields and one faction doesn't have shields while reproducing the "tone" of the Halo series where the early game has humans getting shitwrecked by aliens but the endgame has humans shitwrecking the aliens back.

Mathblaster Plus on DOS followed by Terminal Velocity.
my favorite part was building rockets on the launch pad and sending them into space

oh and I'm pretty sure it was movies or TV that got me into the genre and not really a game

Is there any good space exploration game that's not
a) a grindfest
b) a nothingburger
c) both aka nuMan's Sky
I played Avorion and I really like the ship building but hat how you gotta mine asteroids for hours only to get btfo the first time you encounter a hostile ship and lose everything. Also played Pulsar and Starbound but the exploration is ass. In Pulsar there's like 5 planets you can visit, in Starbound there's one planet with 5 skins. I'm looking at Elite: Dangerous but I absolutely hate MMOs and I dont want to grind for 60 hours just to get to the fun part of the game.

Freespace 2, later X2

I always heard bad things about Sword of the Stars. Mostly about how buggy it was. I might pirate it just to see what it's like.

Yeah, nah, the AI cheats.

I should've clarified: it didn't use to cheat. I checked the forums and other people are complaining about what you had too, so maybe that's yet another thing they've fucked up with 2.0.

Its the 2nd game thats shitty and buggy that essentially ruined the series.
The first one had a rough start but it had like 4 expansions since and ironed most of its shit out.

To anons playing Stellaris: due to system tech and unity penalties, it's optimal to claim as few systems as possible and colonise all the planets you can instead, then go voidborn (even with habitats nerf).

What would an user ship crew need to function?
Essential Roles:
It would obviously need a Captain whose job is to outjew anyone the ship comes across.
Some sort of Tech Priest to keep the ship in working order and autistically screech whenever anyone dares touch his machines.
A Master Gunner from /k/ to keep shooting at things and will daily turn random things in your storeroom into war machines.
Some sort of disciplinarian to keep the crew in order through fear or spankings
A healslut who obviously keeps the crew healthy by servicing them with their body
Someone from /o/ who insists on drifting the ship every chance he gets.
A complete autist who you think is larping as a Vulcan but it turns out he just has autism to tinker with science and lego blocks when he has nothing else to do.

Optional Roles:
Angry Space Marine type who insists that you fire him out of the torpedo tube so that he may fist his way into the enemy ship and rip it apart from the inside.
Navigator to guide you through the perils of the warp and well actually figure out where the fuck you are going.
A bard from /otomad/ to play soothing tunes to improve the ship's morale.
/ck/ fag to cook good grub or poison the entire crew, whichever you prefer.
Master Looter who is an expert of taking everything that's not nailed down, and if it is nailed down he will just take the nail as well.
An angry Slav to yell insults at everyone and anything while drinking loads of vodka before passing out drunk.

Escape Velocity: Nova

That was a great game. I made a mod for it back in the day.

Fuck, wrong video

I think that would be the First Officer/First Mate who's job is to deal with all the crew disputes that are beneath the Captain and to go n dangerous away missions while the Captain sips Earl Grey

You'll need a snarky, quippy ace pilot for the shuttle/fighter craft who can be loved by everyone and die in tragic circumstances giving his life for his comrades then healsl-I mean Doctor can pull another clone out of the tube

Throw in a psyker to headpat and a demo/trap specialist who's so paranoid you can't enter his quarters without triggering the hidden charges he's placed at key areas of the ship and your good.

HMmmm… Empyrion is pretty rad.
And you get a LOT of resources from a single deposit, so it's not really grindy.

It took me 15 minutes to gather enough iron and copper for an entire base + small fighter.

I really like Empyrion but Id classify it as a nothingburger as is
its fun to build ships and fuck shit up but the game needs automated player template integration, terrain randomization and at least some kind of proper AI, it also desperately needs ground vehicles
Ive put like 50 hours into it and it was pretty relaxing
except the abandoned mine, fuck the abandoned mine, shits more terryfying that actual horror games because you sure as fuck dont expect it

Depends heavily on the type of ship. Are we going full 40k or are we going to steal a Cardassian Galord and go around removing hasperat in Star Trek universe?

So a dispoable nigger?

have a loli cabin girl who you shove into small crawl spaces so she can sneak through vents and open doors for you. The only downside is that some poor sod will have to give her a bath considering how dirty she will get, biting and scratching them as she is tossed in the tub
I think with anons you are more likely to end up with a trap specialist and it won't be what you think resulting in the user ship being pursued as a Slaanesh Cult

Who cleans the ship though?

I>>14396453
f you don't have some user on food duty the whole ship will tear itself apart from infighting

Why is it that the best science fiction/fantasy worlds always have space jews?

because normal people dont get their panties in a bunch about stereotypical archetypes, and a lot of creators are jews who know fully well that the stereotypes are based in reality
the only people who have a problem with such stereotypes are either SJWs because waycism or reverse-SJWs because >kikes

Because no world is complete without an irredeemable evil.

Endless Space 2 has nice music

You can't have light without the dark user.

I shit my pants in the abandoned reactor. The inner design is spooky and the alien scorpion-like things are fucking dangerous.

Speaking of vehicles - you do have a bike and hovertanks (which are more powerful than fighters)

yeah women are fucked.

One of my favorite games was X3:TC/AP. I see a bunch of games that look similar but I don't know if they are any good.
So has there been a good sandbox space game, trading, piracy etc. in the past 7 years?

Evochron

Evochron sort of got forgotten about. What happened to it?

Nothing, the guy that makes the Evochron games still makes Evochron games like he did the last 20 years and he will do the next 20 years. Last Evochron Legacy update was just a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah I had a look at it and it's not for me. Then again nothing I found on steam looked interesting so I'm done.

...

Remember when Bob Ross caused massive butthurt on twitch?

Rob, plz, why you do this?

no I dont please tell me more

Twitch decided to stream Bob Ross episodes which for a few days became the most watched stream on twitch. It caused collossal butthurt with streamers because he took all their viewers away. For a few days the quality of vidya drastically improved as the Chaos God of Comfy rose from death to unleash the happy little trees of comfort.

Master of Orion 1.

Starflight is pretty comfy. Also Protostar.

quark wasn't supposed to be evil, he was supposed to be the adorable relateable kike that the audience could sympathize with.

the space nazi cardassians and the xenophobe dominion were supposed to be the evil.

1. Some astronauts claim the stars were visible, others claim it was pitch black without any star in sight.
2. Supposedly the biggest event in history, yet data and telemetry is missing. *Oops* how clumsy and convenient.
3. Talking about going to mars when we can't even go to the moon.
4. NASA photos are full of CGI, green screens and weird anomalies that reeks of fakery.
5. 'Space walks' are performed in dark underwater tanks. Bubbles are seen rising to the surface.
6. Photos of Mars match places of earth. All they do is go to a desert, take a photo, edit it dark brown and claim it's taken on Mars.
7. Look up "A Funny Thing Happened to the Moon" clip which blatantly shows how NASA faked the moon landings, it's all done in a Hollywood studio.
8. Van Allen radiation belt. Yet supposedly 50 years ago we had no problems with that.
9. Wind on the moon?
10. Shadows don't make any sense. Studio equipment are clearly visible as well through reflections.
11. Astronauts appeared bored and uninteresting in the Apollo mission post-interview. I don't know about you, but if I just landed on the moon I'd be extremely excited. Yet these actornauts look like they were threatened.
12. The supposed moon walks were done in slow motion. Speed the footage up 100% and you'll see the actual speed with which it was filmed.
13. NASA was started by Nazis.
14. Almost all the astronauts and ISS people are Freemasons.
15. "Nasa" means "to deceive" in Hebrew.
16. The NASA logo is a serpent tongue.
17. Earth's tilt and angle is supposedly 666.
18. In ISS interviews you can embarassingly see the strings attached through a harness.
19. "Space walks" sound and look just like underwater scuba diving footage.
20. Gravity = Zero-G plane, women wear ridiculous perm hair to make it appear like they're in zero-G.
22. The people who supposedly died in the Columbia mission are still alive, with their names changed.
23. Photos of the moon rover show no tracks, but it shows footsteps.
24. There is not a single real photo of earth or satellites, they're all composites.

The moon landing was a hoax, filmed in a studio. Admitted by Kubrick (which is why they killed him).
Research the Flat Earth movement, it's the mother of all conspiracies.

They don't want you to believe in God.
This world is run by sick Satanic occult societies.

...

Why do you hate White People and their achievements so much? Are you black?

Retard.

who the fuck are you
bet you think earth is flat too
fucking retards i swear

Racism and hate are not very Christian of you

fuck i said it without reading, he really does think the earth is flat
I give this bait a solid 7 out of 10

(You)

...

yeah keep this us versus them mentality while (((they))) shove
cock up your ass

two can play this game
here's your (you)

elite update came out today. wing missions, new ship, crime overhaul.
can we talk about that a little maybe

No.

NO
Talk about Freespace instead

Can I launch multiple fighters yet?

if you multicrew you can launch two fighters. Either two other players or a player and an ai.

Outer Wilds when?

Best sci-fi universe.
Honest.

That's gay.

Heh, thats a good story.

No, he was supposed to represent tradition and greed and as such I think he was the only good in the whole of star trek.

Never.

Another Mosley for the collection. Thanks user.

Are you suggesting you don't watch this before bed?

Wait a second, isn't that all just hatestation but in a ship instead?

...

It would work.

Is it wrong that I want a knockoff of Earth Defense Force where you play as a loli fighting armies of teddies?

Yes

aww

Just a quick question, are the devs of Surviving Mars SJWs? I've always wanted a Mars colonisation game and I'm thinking of buying it but these days most devs are cancer.

I have a bit of a problem. I have limited the potential games I will play next down to two titles: Descent 1 and Freespace 1. I can't make up my fucking mind.

Freespace is better if you want a story and more SPACE
Descent is better if you want to play Quake using a Starfighter.

I'm currently leaning towards Freespace. I love how the targeting system hotkeys alone are numerous enough to more than fill up a controller. They even have a "Target Target's Target" hotkey for fucks sake. It's goddamn glorious.

Also has anyone tried out any Freespace 2 Open mod campaigns? I downloaded Babylon 5 the Babylon Project, Battlestar Galactica Diaspora and Wing Commander Darkest Dawn but haven't played them yet.

Diaspora and Wing Commander and I think even Babylon 5 are standalones.
While a bit overused Blue Planet is worth checking out. Silent Threat Reborn is also heavily worth checking out. Also you can play FS1 using FS2Open.

Since Elite Dangerous isn't good yet, what are some of the best Space trading games? Tried to play Darkstar One but unfortunately got the unfixable loading zone bug.

That implies it'll be good at some point in the future user.

the devs arent malicious they are just incompetent.

Fair enough.

I think it was last thread some user was asking why they don't just launch space shuttles from planes IRL and I was saying that's not feasible and never going to happen. Guess I was wrong.

aerotechnews.com/blog/2018/03/02/stratolaunch-moves-closer-to-first-flight/

Is there any news of Scam Shitizen? I always love to hate that game.

Sure is, but for $49.99 you can get the premium JOURNALIST package. What's inside? Only the LATEST updates and special rewards that's what! For such a reasonable price, our developers promise to bring you the latest news from the studio BY EMAIL! Haven't had enough? For an extra $14.99 you get the DELUXE JOURNALIST package. That's right, for such an accommodating price you get a super exclusive skin specifically tailored for your unique taste. And remember, be sure to donate to our Patreon so we can stay in business.

Y-you're not mocking me, are you user? I just wanna point and laugh.

The sad thing is he's really not.

-All the fabled net-code improvements have been moved back a patch.
-Basic ship component systems still not in.
-The advanced military fighter they claimed that they would never sell is getting a civilian variant and concept sale after all.
-Still no way to buy and/or rent ship weapons or ships inside their test universe.
-Ship stat webpages were updated… with information that doesn't represent the current stat of the game
-Still no mining, refueling or ship repair mechanic that's not npc handwavium
-Still don't even have a full playable solar system or populated planet
-they tried adding the basic ship insurance and persistence system, but it's basically unplayable buggy.
-Sounds like they're getting ready to start doing private tests for alpha 3.1. But the features people cared about were pushed back to a later patch so no one gives a shit

Frankly, I regret backing the game now. Not even because I think it's a scam or never coming out. I'm just really unhappy with a lot of the recent game decisions they're making. They're basically turning ships into fucking MMO classes , where what ever role/job you want to do, you'll need a whole separate special ship to do it. And the newer profession ships barely even have weapons now, meaning you'll need escorts to do fucking anything.

How do you feel the Star Cult is coming to get you?

Multiplayer is the cancer killing space games.

You can probably get a refund one way or another. If you're a yuropoor it's really easy because you can just point towards the "consumer can get a refund as long as the full product hasn't been delivered" EU law.

It's kind of crazy now. All the multi-purpose ships they sold during original kickstarter have been downgraded into somewhat fighty hybrid freighters that get a few extra guns at the cost of having a quarter or less of the cargo that newer dedicated freighters carry. Even the fancy "high-end" ship that was sold back then as the millennium falcon of the game and the biggest ship able to dogfight is a slow flying brick that can't defend itself.

At the current rate, a new player's experience will be flying a cockroach sized ship, that's slow, has piddly shit defenses, and holds a single digit worth of cargo, for dozens of hours doing low pay shit transport jobs to grind up the cash to reach the ship price tiers where all the mining, repair, refueling, combat options actually begin. A fucking Elite Dangerous Sidewinder will seem like the ship of gods, able to do anything, compared to SC's starter ships. This design is probably intentional to push new players into crewing the whales' thousand dollar capital ships.

Last patch smoothed some shit things out mainly engineering. It's better now. If you don't like it now wait a few more major patches, they're focusing on fixing up the core gameplay.

I've always liked it though. As far as space flight sim is, it's the most immersive and it has the best sound any game has ever had.

SC was supposed to be single player originally, wasn't it? Then they got into their heads to make an EVE killer.

Imagine that you had a game that was pretty good and had some potential but had almost no content beyond purging and enslaving xenos. Now imagine that the developers took that game and made it worse and more annoying to play with every patch and added almost no content to the game so there is still really nothing to do but purge and enslave xenos but the devs have now made it a pain in the ass to do that because it makes their multiplayer games in the office unbalanced. They also break several things in the process of doing this like robot pops as they are now fucking useless because you can't only get rid of the ones you don't need.

iirc SC was supposed to be similar to ED but with a better multiplayer component and more player interaction affecting the universe, plus an actual story in the form of Squadron51 or whatever it was called.
I guess you could say it was supposed to be more like a multiplayer X-like, then they decided it should be the one game where you can do literally anything in a way that puts Todd Howard himself to shame.

It was always MMO Elite style, the single player component is called Squadron something and is still a thing.

It started out as a next gen wing commander/freelancer hybrid with some multiplayer elements… then it ballooned into some crazy 1st person EVE online with fps combat and multi-crew ships you walk around on and hundreds of systems.

The single player campaign is still being worked on but it gets less press because it doesn't sell ship jpgs like the online portion does. They've wasted way too much of the budget on named actors and chances are it will be more cut-scenes than game play.

The original game was Squadron 42 which got all the Wing Commander fags aboard. Then it ballooned out of control into Freelancer 2.0 and now you got Jpeg Simulator today and chased away all the Wing Commander fags.

Didn't they also outsource a lot of the game to other devs who turned out to produce absolute shit so they are having to remake everything?

Weekly spaceship.

some of the countless remakes and revisions were that the developers they outsourced to were idiots, some is because Chris Roberts decided to change some new element of the game that requires the team practically start from scratch for the 20th time.

Also because of fundamental problems they have been struggling with from the start, like trying to make an MMO in the cry engine.

Why do I find this weirdly sexual?

Absolute wew. So he's going "Hey guys! Make us a game but we're going to be constantly changing the engine while you work on shit that will no longer be compatible with our modules! Great idea right guize?"
Seriously what the fuck is his problem? Logic would have dictated that he start with Squadron 42, make that first so you have a stable game engine to base your game off of, then add in modules later and gradually build up the game over time so there is something there to stick to. Why the fuck is the retard trying to do absolutely everything at once and be surprised when you throw all the shit at a wall and discover hardly anything sticks?

It's going to be glorious when the fallout finally happens.

Not the slightest clue, friendo.

All vision and no practicality. He is a fool. I've also heard they payed outrageous amounts in modelling outsourcing.

I've said this before: there will be suicides. Roberts will need private security too.

I think he may be like Mr Shitface. He may be good at making games, but is completely unable to take any administrative role and constantly needs someone ready to shove a boot up his ass when he starts fucking around.

Idea men are useless.

He's an idea guy/perfectionist. It's a big problem if there's no one on top of him to tell him "no".
If Microsoft didn't step in during Freelancer then the game would still be in development.

What are you gay?

raycis ass stutter stoppin my spess programs n search for wakanda smh

I think he is gay user

Is that a flying pyramid user?

Going with the Crytek engine was one of the dumbest mistakes they've made so far. It isn't documented very well at all and isn't built with online space MMO type gameplay in mind in the slightest. they've had to make such a ridiculous amount of changes to the engine that they were much better off just building one from scratch instead of desperately trying to make this one work. I've heard the edits they had to make to Cryengine were so severe that they had to track down and hire the people who made it in the first place just to get basic stuff functional. If they only managed to hit their original kickstarter goal of $500,000 this project would have gone up in flames so goddamn hard, the extra cash seems to just be delaying the inevitable at this point.

The great thing about this is that I'm not invested in it at all. If it fails I get metric fucktons of scahdenfreude from SC backers to comb through, enjoy and share with you all that should last quite some time. If it succeeds then we get a game on par with previous Wing Commander titles with a nifty online mode to boot. I'm totally fine with either outcome.

CiG was working with the Crytek developers from the very beginning to try and get the most out of the engine, which isn't unheard of. It was part of the deal that CiG subsequently broke and is getting sued over.
The deal went something like, Crytek: we promise to let you use our engine and help you make game. Cloud Imperium: we promise to exclusively use Cryengine, we promise to use Cryengine to make ONE (1) game and no standalone games like Squadron 42, we promise to share every change we make with Crytek, and we promise to display the Cryengine trademark in the game and promotional materials. None of that happened.

The six gorillion dollar man literally broke every promise he ever made.

CiG hasn't delivered anything but empty promises. They got like two games in early access and people expect Star Citizen to deliver?

Quark isn't regarded as evil by anyone with two brain cells. He's a force for the traditional Ferenginar and mostly just tries to make money. These are both admirable things. He fights every step of the way against the decay of Ferengi society and its fall into feminist decadence. He's like an echo of American history. That is what the Ferengi were supposed to be, anyway; Old American merchants.

Influence is the dumbest shit. Why would a hive mind/machine intelligence need political influence to resettle one of its bodies?

Don't know about the devs but the publishers are paradox interactive who are the physical incarnation of the act of cuckolding so i would recommend a pirate

I'm on to you.

Which space game has the best ships and customization?

I recently tried out X: Rebirth, and I was bummed out, since it doesn't look like you can change your ship. I can't find anything close to Freelancer.

...

Rebirth has mods that change the ship. You could also try Avorion which is a voxel space game, but does at least try to put some effort in the gameplay in addition to the ship building

The only solace I took in posting this was that even though they ruined Oberstien everyone else looks worse

Rad.

That is disgusting.
JUST

Yes, please do!

Are there really no other games similar to Freelancer, where you can buy and customize your ship in a sort-of open world?

Elite dangerous I suppose if you can stand the autism and grind

Rebel Galaxy and Starpoint Gemini for starters. X Series if you want it bigger and better.

see

Was just about to suggest Rebel Galaxy. Had some fun times with that. Also interesting note, Double Damage Games have been working on a new project and have been showing screenshots since late feb.

Forgot about Rebel Galaxy, played it and it was pretty good. I guess I'll try out Starpoint Gemini. I saw X Rebirth getting a lot of shit, should I have started with another one in the series?

Should I try Evochron Legacy, the latest one?

Also, I remember playing Wing Commander: Privateer a long time ago, and it was really comfy.

Well it isn't called X-Stillbirth for nothing. X3 is a good bet with plenty of good mods to keep you entertained.

Legend of the Galactic Twinks.
Now I'm a bit worried about the new season of Ghost in the Shell.

Why does that remind me of this? I guess I mentally blocked it cause I missed it earlier

That looks promising.

The video is from last year about this time, seems they've been polishing up since then.
Also a god awful numale that was retweeted.
Another voice drowned out in the internet really.

WE
*steals technology*
WUZ
*attacks Bentusi
EMPIREZ
*genocides Taiidan*
AN SHIET
*worships Yakub Sajuuk*

You talking about the dev or the numale?

JUST

I mean, it's fitting i guess?

Pick one.

...

This actually looks like it has gameplay unlike ED.

You left out *destabilises galactic politics, unleashing an age of war and chaos that let the vaygr conquer half the place despite being nomadic savages and left the every part of the Taiidan empire left in a civil war and every tin pot dictator scrambling to grab defenceless systems*
And also *unleashed the beast on the galaxy, bringing it closer than it has ever been in its entire history, to having every sentient being in the galaxy turned into spare parts for the beast.*

At least it wasn't this :^)

Anyone wish there was a space game like Sea Of Theives? Where you can walk around your ship, and it takes multiple people to pilot it. Like bridge crew, only its a full real game not just a tech demo

??????

Pulsar?

NO. This what kills games.

Not really, it depends what kind of game it is. Obviously some genres don't work well with multiplayer, but as long as you give the player enough choice, but not too much choice, it can work really well.

What's the gameplay like besides what I mentioned? Is it good despite being an Early Access game?

It was a demo they pitched to EA which EA said no to.

I just looked up Rebel Galaxy. Is it true you can only move on a horizontal plane? In a space fighter/trading game? That would irritate the ever loving fuck out of me, I'll have to give that one a pass unfortunately.

It's Space Water Naval Ships basically

You're in a capital ship user.

Numale.

We might be due for a new version of Starsector soon. This guys is taking his sweet time making the game.

Guess i'm strapping back in.

...

That's a nice flask.

Pirate it and find out. We played it together on Holla Forums on occasion. i'm sure it'll come up in a game night again.

Ah, fair enough.

How long has it been now?

Flames of War
Derelict
Exile

Nope, dev confirmed it'll take a bit longer.
What's funny is that Tiandong and Exigency still haven't updated.

Disney needs to be gassed

Oy vey

Although he was the best thing about that show. Him and not Kyle space wolf Jedi.
Then again, Thrawn didn't really have much competiion.

I bought my Starsector license in 2012. At least they have more to show than jpegs.

Talk about stupid. Space whales that ram into million ton ships and seem to be immune to turbolasers.
Disney really needs to be gassed.

I AM SO FULL OF HATE RIGHT NOW

I am anger. Guess I should have known Disney was going to desecrate Thrawn's legacy like this.

Someone needs to make "Local company ruins a franchise"

Should do an edit With Mark on Holla Forums

Just pirated Stellaris with the new DLC.
Man they putted in the stuffs what i missed the most from that piece of crap and they still let me down.
I mean how the fuck can you waterdown something so simple like planet-killers into an uninteresting and useless boring, uncreative pice of garbage. This must be a fucking new creative low in the human history!

Filoni said he didn't died… Our blue friend didn't suffered enough…

Aren't planet killers generally not wise in space 4x games? You lose out on a possible production center and associated resources because most don't let you mine or really interact with dead worlds.

I'm kind of in a space game drought, Star Citizen is a scam, Elite Dangerous is barely a game and is a bore to play with their poor-man MMO shit, Starsector is not due for another update in a while. I just want to fly around trading and bounty hunting.

They're like nukes irl. They're just there to scare the living dickshit out of other people/fungus.

you want void destroyer 2 man

just make sure to get the black skybox mod.

I wonder if the dev still posts on Holla Forums or /agdg/. I remember him asking for advice on the first one way back in 4chan.

Yeah, multiplayer is pure cancer 99% of the time.

Not in Stellaris. Cracking a planet gives you a buffed mine (you can dig the carcass for raw resource), seal aplanet gives you some sience-points, and neutralizing (kill every living thing on the surface) give you the whole planet.

Sadly every of the planet-killers looks the same (like a butt plug), and work like shit. You can technically goes into autistic Star Wars and blow them up with one little space ship since these "beast" have absolutly no defense. which could be a fun concept, if you could order your fucking fleet to defend the flying garbage!

X4 soon?

Just play LU, silly argon
