What class should I roll?

I'm playing on MapleLegends, but MapleRoyals is OK too.

I used to play on MR but the atmosphere sucks. Sure it has more players, but the economy is inflated and fucked up, everyone and their mom has a lvl 200 Bishop and nobody does shit together. It's too competitive and easy to level.

ML nails the nostalgic atmosphere, has a friendlier community, and levelling feels more rewarding. Also all quests work, unlike in MR where quests are bugged and nobody does them.

There's this bullshit mechanic called "hp washing", so for your first class and 0 funds I'd suggest getting a high-HP class like a Brawler or any Warrior so you don't have to deal with that shit. Another easy, effective and proven method is a pure INT Magician. Doesn't need gear or money, int mages are a good starting pick as well.

You can play a Bowman or Thief, but you're gonna suffer later on because of HP washing.
People are gonna shit on you for having low HP. These classes are best as alternatives/secondary characters once you've already amassed a lot of wealth on your first guy to properly gear and HP-wash a secondary character.

Or you can just play what you enjoy. You don't have to follow these rules, but if you're a perfectionist/min-maxer or suffer from OCD then these are essential things to keep in mind.

I'm not sure if it's worth trying at this point with the remaining community interested in the older versions dwindling, but you can try it for yourself if you really want. (It also sometimes has issues running on newer systems, but some PS include patches or instructions if there's OS-specific issues.) The gameplay is an unbalanced p2w grindfest, and most PS just give you free NX to alleviate the p2w without fixing core issues. (Honestly someone would be better off just making a new game with a similar concept from scratch.) MapleSaga does a decent job of balancing classes and HP/MP pools from the posts I read on their forums about their changes. I've been meaning to try the server because of that, but the last server I played killed my interest in this game, so I don't know if their balances are good in practice. (Otherwise most PS are roughly the same. People usually pick a server for working features, size of community, and its boosted rates)
I still like MapleStory's art style and music, though the 800x600 resolution was dated even during its peak in 2006~2009. I also don't know if the music is genuinely good, or if it's just nostalgic from when I first played this game 10 years ago.
I'll probably try Saga eventually. I always end up playing a PS every couple years or so. Royals is still shit though. Keeping shitty features for nostalgia-sake doesn't make it good.

Barely anyone plays the game anymore, these crossover events just don't make sense(we get the Evangelion stuff but Frozen was Korea only?) and private servers aren't worth the time because they get shut down.

I gave up on following nay plot years ago. They retcon stuff left and right so there's zero reason to pay attention to whatever the game calls a story.

The original Silent Crusade was a weird dating sim thing where your character falls in love with the NPC. That was completely gutted from the game, never happened at all, and replaced with a new plot that was just a wholesale ripoff of the plot of TES Oblivion, I shit you not. No, seriously, look at the SC story carefully, it's nearly the same as Oblivion only without a dead emperor.

Friendstory was also tacked on bullshit that was more a chore than anything.

When was the last time a server got shut down? Royals and Destiny have been running for over 4 years. (Unless you mean voluntarily, then yes that does happen. Did LunarStory/Slimetales wipe again yet? They wiped twice last year alone.)

No hp washing needed with maple leafs giving 100 hp for 25 of them as well. Theres a Cafe PQ for lvl 21+ which you can solo but party is better since you need 400 tickets to clear. Gives erasers which can net some nice rewards kind of like gacha.

I play sometimes, but only pre-Big Bang servers. I just wanted a server that doesn't have 4th job, but at this point I'm not sure I'd even bother if one showed up. I used to play Legends but I stopped because I hate a lot of the balancing issues in v62 and the use of leech. Anyone played FutureLegend?

Global got shut down last month but that's because they were idiots and advertised in a way that would often make them show up before the official servers in Google searches and used an old URL that Nexon used to use. I'm sure there were people who weren't sure if it was the official server when they found it.

But that's the charm, Legends actually feels nostalgic and the real deal.

The lower exp rate means every level feels rewarding. Hitting 2nd or 3rd job is meaningful, whereas in Royals if you're not lvl 200 you don't mean shit.

All quests work, and have a 3x exp ratio so questing is rewarding. They also buffed the White Knights/Paladins recently.

I don't see how inflation can be used as an argument against a server. Take royals for example it's true that the higher tier items are 1-2bill but the price of a simple steel ore is 350k. What do you lose when your income grows at the same rate?

How does Legends do NX? I saw on their website they have a donating option is it only cosmetics?

It probably didn't help that MapleStory Global sounded like an official Global MapleStory server.

Because quest rewards, NPC buy/sell values, and monster money drops remain static, what ends up happening is that there are only a few worthwhile ways of making money, when the game was meant to have a lot more. Additionally, buying items from NPCs no longer takes any thought, whereas without inflation you'd have to pay attention to your own budget.
Legends only has cosmetics for donations.

Does the airship work on this one? In other servers they just skip it and warp you right where you want to go.

Royals ain't so bad, it just lacks endgame content in general, right now is just HT and Ulu city leech. I like the way they balanced classes though (130% all wk charges and v83 skill tables for everybody else), the only downside is that perhaps money's way too easy to obtain (unless you're a fag who can't in2 fm) and the gach-to-win/sell-ap-to-win is a bit distasteful.

I'm going to try Croosade MS, it's pre-BB v92 with all its skill tables and classes (Aran, Evan, DB and Cygnus), ~200 players online and no potentials. 4x exp, 3x quest, 3x drop.
I was going to try MapleSaga, but I opted to try Croosade first since it's from a version right before BB without potentials. Anyone here played either server before? I'm kinda curious to see how things work on both.

They actually brought them back, you can choose to buy a NX ticket to skip rides (about 15m for 7 days or something), use teleportation rocks (those rocks from CS) or take the ride as one normally would.

I don't understand royals their reasoning behind the whole godly equips system they have. What's the point in giving equips a chance to have an additional 1-5 in their stats? It will just make those equips the norm and the regular equips with perfect stats are deemed garbage.
What did they accomplish with this other than shifting around a bunch of numbers? It's simply to make people grind more and forget about the low content isn't it?

Fuck man, it was easy to find the screenshots when I was involved with PS's but now I don't know where to look, so I can only give you my word. Basically, Royals had a lot of problems with GMs making godly items for themselves and their friends, and just general corruption.
There were more problems than just item duping but it's been years, so I can't remember too well anymore.
My own experience was when a popular user used a glitch to steal my FM spot (explicitly against the rules) while a GM watched him do it. Explained the situation to the GM and he refused to do anything about it.
I realized then that their reputation for shitty staff wasn't baseless. That was the same month Legends was released so I hopped over.

Does Legends have custom skill tables and balance or any more content than royals?

Croosade is just a vanilla v83 with db and evans and no QoL stuff.

Remember that v85~87 brought some skill buffs as well. (Bandits and FP mages getting 2nd job mobbing skills are the biggest changes I remember off the top of my head.) If the server is v83 it might not have said buffs.

I played Royals and just recently started playing Croosade. I used to have a bishop on Royals but when I logged on after a good year or so, it lost a ton of levels and got demoted to a priest. It's too much for me slog through all that again.
