Why is there so much blatant pro Russian or anti Russian shilling these days?

I was completely serious dude, look how much they care about democracy at home, they rigged no less than three primaries this past year.

It's baffling really. So called communists idolizing Putin, a man who continued the legacy of Boris Yeltsin, who sold vast amounts of public property off to a tiny cabal of capitalists, essentially ending socialism in Russia.

And yet none of that matters because he gets people to remember Stalin. It's like American liberals wearing Che Guevara shirts.

Because Rayhton and all of these arms companies need Russia to be seen as a threat in order to sell more weapons.

This. The problem for the United States was that Russia was supposed to quietly acquiesce to US foreign policy goals after the collapse of the USSR, but Putin's rise ended that dream. I mean fuck, according to Yeltsin NATO was never meant to expand into the former Warsaw Pact states (who were supposed to be a neutral buffer between NATO and Russia)

Of course it's hard to criticise the US online without people assuming you're either a Putin shill posting from a basement in Omsk or you're a Dugin-worshipping Putinboo weirdo

The situation w/r/t Russian diplomacy has become ridiculously bad. It's now unquestioned (but nonetheless false) that the President of the U.S. is subordinate to the Russian government at the same time that these two countries are actually at a very tense head with each other. Meetings with the ambassador ffs and other diplomatic envoys are splashed across the front page of WaPo as allegeded treason. This is not normal politics.

Also it's instructive to look at the CIA report that stated Russia interfered with the election in favor of trump "with high confidence", when the report actually show Russia spent the election shitting on Trump and Clinton, accusing the American system as a whole of producing corrupt and insane candidates, because the bulk of this report is dedicated to an annex on RT. It reveals the ideology of the CIA and media outlets such as the WaPo and NYT, laying out clearly unacceptable positions for the pundit class to hold. These positions are things like: "fracking is harmful to human health and the natural ecosystem, but is nonetheless pursed vigorously by a profit oriented government," and "the two party system never produces a candidate that represents the interests of the people and the election is always a sham". It goes on like this for 8 pages.

Putin outwitted Obama at just about every turn, which totally busted the perception that King obongo was always the smartest man in any given political situation. That Obama was an amateur who kept getting virtually depantsed by a former KGB agent who wasn't wowed by Obama's melanin content like any other western leader was another big trigger. Would Crimea have been annexed if it was anyone other than obama? Maybe but it's far less likely. Putin sensed weakness and was able to do things no Russian president can do with an American leader.
I do think there is a deeper, more primal reason for the Russia hysteria: Putin is basically showing people that their whole world view is wrong.

Yup. And it's failing hard. The traditional media (print and news-broadcasts) continue to preach their narrative and that only they should be trusted but online its a fucking shambles. Check the comments section for just about every outlet that still allows comment, or Twitter, Reddit any of that shit. Nobody is buying it any more. Not everyone likes Russia but those who sincerely believe that Russia is conspiring to take down the US are few and far between.
