The Witcher 3

So, were they the Dark Elves (Druchii)? of the Witcher universe?

...

It's decent, at least vanilla. Blood and Wine and Heart of Stone are amazing though.

My Geralt is still level 3 when I reached the first Ciri quest. Am I playing it wrong? Does Axii work on non-humans?

yeah but it required a lot of stat investment and it's not worth it if you ask me, stick to poison + bleed

Yep, it can stun and at higher levels turn pretty much any enemy (or two) into your ally temporarily.

Hearts of stone is pure kino

Just a side note, but does anyone else think the Witcher series story is really f'ing good for a video game?
I'm thinking this story would be good enough to make a TV show or book series out of.

heart of stone had the best ending

this is bait.

They should make a netflix original film.

So am I the only one who prefered Witcher 2's semi-linear style to 3's open world?

yeah like a prequel novel could be cool or somthing like that

My problem with 3 is that the open world had too many " fuck you moments." Level 10 zone, meanwhile level 28 monster by the river that is unbeatable till you're closer.

Witcher 1 is a good game, Witcher 2 is mediocre and 3 is leddit-tier crap.

I didn't mind that, but I hated the combat. Witcher 3 has the best combat out of the three, even if some aspects of the whole process are streamlined.

Witcher has a good story, but they need to work on its gameplay. Just because it's an WRPG doesn't excuse the series being mediocre when it comes to combat.

So was the OP a retard of cuckchan?
Was this the darks souls of dubs threads?*

ok I will bite. When exactly is a game "reddit" ?

...

...

...

I don't follow

Wait, there are actual reasons? I just thought it was shitposted and deleted some of it.

Yeah, it was just basic batman block/dodge/attack combat but with a sword. I wish they made killing in the witcher contracts more complex, like if you had to fight a certain way to kill the monsters beyond "hit its weak point here with a crossbow" or "use this kind of oil". I Liked the oils, but do something more with the combat to make it challenging.

shes a bitch

not reddit
this could be reddit but it doesnt really apply in here. There were references to other media but the main theme of the universe is european folklore and legends.

...

They have their own attack patterns though.

as viewed by a distinctly (((modern))) perspective.

no, this is pretty accurate. redditers can't handle complex games, and the witcher 3 is about the simplest you can get. It's pretty weird how long cdpr got by getting so many basic game design elements wrong.

They were a all new race - the mad gains elves.

Only if there's a kang recast.

W3 does go a bit overboard on the stronk wahmen shit but I think some of it is done as a joke like the Brienne wannabe in B&W who doesn't shut up about how she's gonna get roasted for losing and Geralt just shrugs it off with "It's the [CURRENT CENTURY]. Do whatever the fuck you want."
I think the one egregious thing is how Radovid is portrayed as a cartoonishly loony mad king with a raging hate boner for magicians for absolutely no reason. Anyone who knows W2 might unironically say RADOVID DID NOTHING WRONG.

Yes they can. Name any game and there's probably a subreddit for it. Do you even know what reddit is?

they suck paradox cocks good tho

>as viewed by a distinctly (((modern))) perspective.
it is true sapkowski is a fedora tipper but I havent noticed anything in the games

this is not a good look

The gameplay could be better in all three, the roleplaying could be better in all three, the quest designs could be better in all three and more, yet I love the games to the point I don't care about their faults.

wait, there is a quest where you can punch student commies. go to 4:10

"hit its weak point here with a crossbow" or "use this kind of oil"

that was all in game at some point even the unique biome thing but it all got cut because downgrades.

I dont know if you read books but Sapkowski is obsessed with them. His latest book is like something you would expect from western sjw writers

I have no idea what this response is supposed to mean to anyone. Are you going to admit that you said something objectively false, or are you trying to deflect?

Strawmaning about sidequest that were either gags or written by some random non pol employee and being upset about a guild of bitchy female mages ain't gonna prove your point.

A lot of things can be better in many games but the general tone of all of them is great and makes them worth playing.

...

I'm just saying, you're defending reddit and it's not a good look. red flags.

inconsistent quality of content is a pretty notable flaw. It's just inherent to how open world games work, part of why they're a bad genre to make games in.

its great teenage reading.

Nigger, there are probably 4 instances of stupid crap in total writing wise in W3. Quest writing in the game is great.
Its you who made the wrong assumption.

I'm sure we can find more in the time sinks. I mean, the sidequests.

No, I made no assumptions. I was right in concluding this is a reddit game (it is.) I just found it weird you would defend reddit. There was a time where Holla Forums hated reddit as much as cuckchan, but it is weird to see one, the far softer one, is now accepted.

He's trying to say she's a bitch on a soft way, cant you read basic context

cyberpunk when? any news?

Haven't read the books but checked up on summaries in the Wikia and such, mostly for more info on some characters because of vaguely alluded things in the game (like the Emperor turning into a sort of hedgehog bear) or things that are played differently (like Eredin killing the king by accident with magic Viagra to bone Ciri).
I don't mind some of the stronk wahmen like Yen because when you shoot lightning out of your hands you kinda earned the right to act like a cunt or that Skellige chick you can help become queen because her brother's a hothead and she finds a different way to prove her worth besides "kill all the things". What irks me in 3's storytelling is that it omits the events of 2 and makes the sorceresses look like victims when they all had it coming. Also, it's overall a LOT lighter on its themes and how it portrays characters (Roche in particular); there's some fucked up moments but 2 feels much more messed, maybe virtue of being shorter.

It's a enjoyable but has a lot of warts. I agree with those saying that it would probably be better in shorter stories like the expansions.
A couple of things that irk me are the fact that straying off course can ruin some quests by accidentally skipping many steps, the greatest example being Lord of Undvik - in my first playthrough, I wandered about and found Craite, went and killed the giant and that was it. Next playthrough, I stayed on rails and the quest took me around the whole island, including several places and encounters I had missed entirely. The other, much plainer, is that you can't get NPC/boss sets like in DaS. I like those Wild Hunt armors.

Yeah, the Witcher 3 is a bunch of tell tale series stapled together with a map in between them. It's a fun game, but mechanically it was superior in the second game (traps, better enemies except the endgame warp wizard faggots)

Yeah, fuck off.

Read the books, they are actually really good, and its much more grim than the game, the romance is one of the best fantasy book series ive read, its complete fucked up what they do with Ciri, makes you feel for the little girl. Geralt is complete OP and puts his dick in every woman, the jokes are dark humor.

I found them to be mechanically shit for different reasons. the witcher 2 was mostly an unbalanced disaster where the game became a joke to cheese through but it was thoroughly encouraged. The witcher 3 however has a lot of inconsistencies in how it approaches its game design. It plays like a college student project. There's no hit stopping, there's variable animation lengths for the same attack just as an example. I don't know what they were thinking, but you do not make an action game that way. Action games aren't about showing the player pretty things, they're about giving the player predictable controls and mechanics used to approach challenges which test your understanding of the mechanics.

It's like if when Nintendo were making the first super mario bros they made it so mario always jumped a random height instead of letting you control how high he jumps just because "it looked cool."

You are in enemy territory, telling me to fuck off is just silly.

witchers
1 = 2/10
2 = 3/10
3 = 4/10

I recently played through it, and I noticed a few dialogue lines like this. For example, in blood and wine I did some quest involving elven statues coming to life and slaughtering people. Afterwards, the humans were complaining about elves. There was an option to say humans weren't that great either. Picking that turned Geralt into a full blown sjw for 30 seconds.

It's important to realize that's immediately after the party where Shauni falls for the 'chauvinist' irishman ghost, who is a total bro. It's a joke. Geralt is a drip.

I played the first Witcher, besides the whole "Winter is coming" rip off, why didn't they just make it a full fledge infinity engine crpg?

What do you mean? The original idea was it to use the universe but your character would be a custom witcher.

so whether or not a game is reddit is completely irrelevant to the contents of the game, but just you stormniggers complaining about politics?
Thank God I know now to avoid recommendations from Holla Forums, they can't separate good games from bad througj mechanics alone (simple != bad)

I can't even describe it, the game felt like it was trying to be three different games at once. The story was okay, I read up on the 2nd and 3rd, none of that interested me.

Didn't it start as a nwn mod?

Geralt:

he is not really a ger stu since he is hated by majority of common folk, ciri on the other hand…

he is only hated by most people in the 3rd game, in the lore and the first two he is quite famous and beloved as being a hero of the people.

The Witcher is Polish so it's inherently right wing and redpilled on that alone.
Everybody is white and the women are attractive.
There is no diversity agenda. How is this game reddit tier?

Honestly the gameplay is really bad it's only worth pirating if you're really into the universe

I get your point but in defense of that, I like the idea that no matter what you choose, the character plays it straight though a better example would be the Yakuza series where the choices given can be straight up stupid. And similarly to Yakuza (or other nip games), Geralt does make an ass of himself and quite often at that which is very uncommon in western games.
A small note regarding the lack of impediments; he's sterile. IIRC sorceresses are barren as well.

There were some kebabs in HoS. The few ones in the story are all well and good but the merchants are pretty obnoxious.

It's no worse than the Batman Arkham series.

gameplay is okay

Unlike witcher which is shitty reading at any age (^:

Unrelated question but how do you feel about Warhammer?

I started Horus' Heresy.
Enjoyed playing deathwing and vermintide as well as mordheim.

Olgierd is a massive piece of shit and deserves to have his soul taken by the Master of Mirrors.

yeah fucking this. whats with americans always having illusions about eastern europe.

The alcoholism would be excusable, if he could handle it, but he can't and was banned from biggest fantasy convention in Poland.

So he was no christopher hitchens then.

yeah his alcoholic escapades are legendary.

Good thing about HoS is its very gray, not black and white. Olgierd wanted to be a good man for his wife, but his pride and shame drove him to the occult. He paid the price by dealing with the devil and his own good nature died over time. He was a thrall, corrupted and transformed by O'Dimm.

He deserves it but also doesn't.

Fuck him.
He was as good as dead as soon as he pulled that shit.

story time?

They were the pre-/tg/ elves

That is fucking hilarious.

Here's something I dont get though.
Why the fuck does Geralt need a silver sword and a steel sword. I'm sure silver would work just as well on human flesh. Why not just carry one sword?

Witcher 1 is shit, 2 is overrated, and 3 is pretty good. Fuck you if you disagree, you are objectively incorrect.

Like all good games, the successes outweigh the flaws.

Sapkowski's a fucking retard if you read pretty much any interview he's done, that's no surprise. Keep in mind, this guy hates videogames as a fucking medium and was so goddamn retarded he made CDPR pay him one lump sum to use the license instead of royalties, so he's eternally buttblasted that the massive runaway success of the games results in zero shekels for him. =

wasnt witcher 3 made by bioware?

Anyone who posts this without realizing its taking the piss is someone to be disregarded as a) someone who didn't play the game OR b) shitposter.

Silver's soft.

Okay.
Monsters generally have harder flesh than humans. He fucking fights golems with the softer sword at times. Why not just give him one really badass intricate looking silver sword that puts every one else's weapons to shame so you wouldnt even care about looting other weapons, but still be able to find cooler silver swords hidden throughout the world, like in a FF game.
Weapons you get in other games, mostly JRPGs are found as relics, are few and far between and make more of a difference instead of "oh I need to loot this because it has a point of attack higher than the identical sword i'm carrying now"
Just a thought.

it would make for better gameplay too in my opinion.

I loved Witcher 1. It's probably the best game I've ever played. Witcher 2 was okay. Haven't gotten around to playing Witcher 3 yet.

What said, but also:
Silver's expensive.
and you're probably an idiot

Again, most monsters have stronger flesh than humans. More expensive isn't an argument either. Less is more. Just make the ones you can use rare and found as relics throughout the world. The way Witcher does 2swords is dumb.

Silver is specifically deadly against mythical beasts according to most european legend, that's why he uses it. Though you could argue he could just have some sort of silver alloy to take on both people and monsters.

Because you don't control a party and there are no D&D mages
Infinity engine games are braindead and dull if you don't use a mage.

He is written as an autist who can't catch on to social cues in relationships even in the game themselves.

Mortals can be cut down by far less than a rock or tree golem, that can apparently be sliced down by a thin silver blade.

Yeah, everything is about briana woo or whoever. Sapkovsky wrote all these books because he foreseen that feminist degeneracy will happen 25 years later. Fucking feminists ruining the past!
Yeah, fucking newfags who only played w3 and didnt played w2 which is the start of witcher series.
Are you old enough to post here?

user, it looks like you're only seeing what you want to see. Could it be that you're projecting a bit?

Unless my memory of books fail me, it originally was that both swords are for monsters, but steel sword also happens to be good against humans, whereas the silver sword is more for ghosts and other incorporeal beings that are unharmed by steel.

Silver swords are usually made from meteorite as well if I recall. Its also magic, I don't have to explain shit.

Oh yeah those based dudes huh, poor non humans being discriminated against for no reason what so ever, it's almost like it's inspirations from real life. Take your lefty flavored soap opera and fuck off.

You can kill anything with any sword, the silver one just does more damage to monsters because magic.

The witch serving his father killed him and was part of the lodge, plenty of reason to gas all the magic users.

its older story but there was a con in some school and he got into argument with teacher/principal or something like that

I had plenty of good laughs reading it
Its pure humor kino

I wish you were able to spend more time in the Elven world.

third act of Witcher 2 was supposed to be Elven city in Elven valley but it got completely cut.

Loc Muinne was an Elven city though. It was very bare content wise though.

Really? It's mentioned a fucking gorillion times on all games and books, it would've been worth seeing

Every time you help non humans on a harmless, benevolent way they respond with an anti human crime like robbing a bank to finance an anti human revolt, and many other human killing stuff

I felt bad for Olgierd. He was just a man that tried to do the right thing but got tricked. The ending made me feel very sad because the curse was lifted but the damage was already done.

This exactly. Fuck this reddit/v/ which can't take diverging opinions and bans people who disagree with the hivemind, too.

So what's the argument for and against level scaling?
I recall hearing people disliking it, and aside from it breaking one boss making it almost impossible, I can't really find any reason why I wouldn't want it in my game.

bravo CDPR

She dies? hopefully that's canon and they don't force me to play as the stupid bitch in Witcher 4 if there is one.

They already said they want to make Ciri games.

Yes and Geralt dies too. The only saving grace is that he gets to kill the last crone

It prevents the obvious soft-gating mechanism of having high-level enemies guarding important items and whatnot, and often forces you to grind to break the level scaling (or to not grind - see tlr or to) lest challenges become mathematically impossible to surmount, i.e. it gives designers very little control over the level of challenge offered. Moreover it is a nuisance to the feeling of progression (since bandits are always just as hard no matter your level due to scaling, for instance). It also severely reduces enemy and item variety by its nature. Most of these traits were present in tw3.

Well that's shitty.

It makes some sense. At least we get a fucking RPG where you get the ending you have been playing towards opposed to "pick an ending for Ciri" right at the end. Your choices are meant to make her more confident, so she doesn't doubt herself at the pivotal moment.

Nah.

Don't even get me started on Yen
>1 kiss and 1 pre-rendered sex scene with wolf and deer allegory making up half of it is my reward

Ciri isn't a full fledged witcher so there's no reason for her to take over the main series. If they want to waste time with Ciri side games I can just skip, I don't really care.

addition: if there's one golden rule to this game and the choices you make, just don't be a dick to the Baron.
He's good people.

...

Too bad the dialog realization is basically identical. Your choices are "I don't care" or "omg how dare you" but geralt says basically the same thing eitherway. What happens to the baron at the end likewise doesn't impact anything. Dreadful.

I hate how the game pretty much streamlines you to be an asshole to him even though pretty much nothing is his fault.
He didnt cause his wife to miscarry.
He only got physical with her when she cucked him.
His daughter is a bitch and he probably never even slapped her.

>questline ends in baron hanging himself when I didn't even realize the woman watching the children was his wife

Exactly my thoughts on the subject. It's also a hard break from previous titles in the series (though multiple people say this is compatible with the way geralt is written in the books, one must remember this is a game series, don't advertise a continuation if it's a spinoff) and it's poor writing and game design (both in terms of fake choices and because of the discrepancy between written option and spoken option, not to mention the false dichotomy of options as there's no way for geralt to say he thinks everyone is at fault for different reasons),

And the worst part in my opinion is that the baron segment was by far the most fleshed out of the entire game before the DLCs, in spite of being so shallow and streamlined. All in all it really illustrates well the entire ideology behind the way the game is built: streamline, simplify and hope the pretty graphics and feefees carry everything.

I remember that user…
I remember…

Baron did nothing wrong

Excuse me for not letting a barely-trained, elder-blood fueled woman trash an elf's laboratory with god-knows what in it, because some elf whore hurt her feelings. Excuse me for giving her some backup when she walks into a den of magical vipers. And I'm so, so very sorry for telling her to man the fuck up over a drink instead of having a sissy fucking snowball fight. My mistake. I guess I'm just a terrible father figure.

Witcher 1 is objectively the best game in the series. Whether the other two are good or not comes down to personal preference, but they're simply not as good as the first game.

TW2 is definitely redeemed as a game by virtue of Roche, though.

story wise yes. but if you want a good story just stick to the books, after reading the books i wish i never played any of the witcher games.

Geralt seems to be the only character with an American voice. What gives with that? I'm going through it now, and it's something I didn't really think about before.

That straight up pissed me off. Doesn't the game imply that the wife was getting help from the crones and that was why she ended up the way she did? Anyone who willingly got into bed with the crones without living their entire life in fear of them, deserved what they got.

You should of known not to tell a woman what to do.

...

Current Year Geralt

so glad i never got into this series.

It outright states it. She gets a magical abortion from the crones in exchange for a year of her service and gets mind fucked in the process. If you free the tree spirit she gets turned into a hag and killed, if you kill the tree spirit, she stays retarded and the Baron takes her off screen to get healed. Baron was a bro.

the baron had a hard life

The combat is horrendous shit, the plot drops the Witcher girl getting pregnant and bearing the messiah out of no where.
Only good thing out of 2-3 was the dragon that likes to to get gangbanged by dwarves.

...

He talks like that to men, women, homos, heteros, elves, dwarves, dragons and demons alike, so obviously not.

Ciri is a marry sue and a shitty character
Books went downhill when she was introduced

...

Witcher was great gameplay and story wise (Siegfried was the biggest thing I missed in the next two games even if roche made up for it a bit) Mired by bugs mostly but excusable for a small game with a rushed final act
Witcher 2 is dogshit except for the story which is great, gameplay was the worst of the three with the absolute dogshit combat and quick time events. Witcher 3 gameplay was great but basegame story was mediocre and flawed (the fucking ending where sigi goes full retard and against his character for no reason). The DLCs made up for it HoS the best fucking thing ive played in the last decade and B&W being entertaining and a happy fucking ending for once.

Also only soyboi retards sided with the squirrels in 2

QTEs aside, tw2 combat was decent. Significantly better than tw3 since you could actually control your animations and there wasn't momentum all over the place. Moreover attacks did not influence unpredictably. Gameplay balance revolving around combat was also infinitely better. Anyone who thinks combat in tw3 was good obviously never played any of the games.

combat was ok in witcher 3 since you can actually crowd control but I played witcher 2 on the top difficulty and its the least fun poor excuse for combat even if you prepare before each fight.
dont forget the kayran

[CURRENT YEAR] jokes aside, the biggest thing that bugged me about Witcher 3 was the complete lack of any post game content besides the DLCs. You don't get to visit Ciri, you don't get to see your cottage with Yen or Triss, and everyone that played pivotal role in the story just vanishes from the game. Dandelion isn't even in his tavern with Zoltan. It feels so empty.

People praised this game for having so much attention to detail and little things that made it feel alive. But they completely ignored stuff like this. Yeah it would've been a lot more work to put into the game to tailor to everyone's choices. But maybe they could've actually done something smart like that instead of A FUCKING CARD GAME!

But user, how would they have time to put all those current year remarks in the game? You better enjoy your independent strong womyn character or else some autistic Holla Forums fags will shit talk you.

It felt like the Sigismund story line in Witcher 3 got cut hard, hastily edited then thrown under the rug for the main story.

It would have been cool if they based the Nilgaardian emperor on Sigmar Heldenhammer instead of some mean corrupt statesman.

Emhyr var Emreis is a pivotal character in the book series and an integral part of the Ciri story arc (which I found to be somewhat worse than the stories of Geralt). Would be a pretty retarded move to replace him.

I find it retarded they never bothered to try and bring up the fact he wanted to fuck his daughter.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I just thought he was a generic boogeyman of socialists. Should probably read at least one of the books.

You can watch this video too.

someone juts put a bullet in this faggots head already

Well he is a stoner furry. What did you expect?

this is why weeb games win
just this reason
only this one

Ciri isn't even close to being a mary sue. All of her powers and capabilities weren't instantly mastered, but required training and tutoring to master. You can dislike her as a character as much as you want, but she's not a mary sue.

Because its one of those endings where the post-game is some weird timeskip back where the main story doesn't matter. Once you reach the end, chronologically, Geralt moves on to Toussaint. That's the only time in the game where the main story is talked about and in the past tense, where characters come to visit after you're done for good.

No you're right, she's a Stockholm Syndrome dyke whose entire existence is to simply not get raped pregnant.
Literally her only and highest defining trait is "Don't Get Raped", unless it's by the dyke who helped you from getting raped by an evil penis.
The early stories are just reimaginings of old folktales. Later on the books devolved worse and worse, with Geralt in a dysfunctional relationship with a bitch and elves who kinda want to fill ciri's womb but don't because she's uggo part human
also feminist witch illuminati
Witcher sucks. It always sucked.

The games at least gave us a better Triss and removed the bitch and the kid but they needed to bring back the books so what was already weak - the games were never fun, even 2 - only got that much worse, to the point where everyone complained about the utter shift in 3 and wanted to see more of the character they actually got to know over two games instead of this random uppity twat

Anyone remember that? How they went and added a few extra bits of dialogue to make it less obvious that they read more of the books and suddenly wanted to make the games closer to the canon? That was funny

fuck off Holla Forums

before the DLCs were released, when you finished the last (main) mission the game says that the story is over and whatever you do now it has no effect on the world or something like that even if you still has side missions left.

I noticed during the later missions when Triss is on the boat you cant interact with her past a certain point and she'll just say a generic phrase from earlier in the game. It was similar with Ciri if you saved her, not sure if they ran out of time or it was just too much due to all the different outcomes.
In Blood and Wine they come and visit your house in Toussaint(only one of them depending on your main game choices) if you finish the renovation side mission.

Holla Forumsirgins are normalfags in denial. You are so afraid of being shamed for bad vidya taste, that you play games in secret and shit on them as soon as they're over. The only games you admit liking are reddit's top 10 like system shock and shadow of the colossus because you don't expect criticism for it.

Its more likely that Geralt going from saving the world and fighting for his loved ones back to usual shit is a bit of anti-climax. Also the endings go against that other than Geralt alone (not with Triss or Yen). With Yen you two fuck off to seclusion somewhere, with Triss you go to Kovir, if Ciri dies Geralt is broken and dies in the swamp.

The 3rd Witcher book, in which there is first the notion of "The Great Cold was published in 1996, the 1st and 2nd book were published in 1992 and 1993.
"A Song of Ice and Fire" was published also in 1996 BUT the Polish edition came out in 1998.

He is Ciri's father.

He was pretty smart in the books. Knew of the corruption and shit in his country, knew he couldn't fix it because of his reputation, needed his daughter so he can fix his country.

Who knew of that? Just him and Geralt. He never directly said anything like that instead didn't correct others who did. Even the Lodge of Cunts didn't know the whole truth. His country was corrupt right up to his advisers so he had to keep his plan a secret right until the end.

Has anybody given Geralt the Hulk Hogan look?

DELETE THIS!
