What killed it for me is the bad hit registration with the awfully balanced and also redundant weapon choices. It doesn't feel like other arena shooters where each gun has a niche and fills it in some way, this one has two guns per niche and there's no reason to use one when you have the better one already. Combine that with the fact that the game can count two projectile shots as different damages despite being in the nearly same locations just because of how unreliable hit detection is and it's just not a fun game to play especially from a background of playing other arena shooters like Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament.

Tapping space is a skill? You still have strafe jumping as the primary method of acceleration. Autohop is a problem for Quake and Reflex because their trick jumps are double jumps which require manual presses. The trick jumps in Xonotic are ramps that you slide up which isn't based on manual presses at all.

Hit detection gets worse for projectiles when you have a couple hundred ping but is fine if there's a server on your continent. Looks like three are covered. Care to cover a fourth? If the weapons appear to be redundant, you're probably not using the primary/secondary fire or primary-secondary combos. You could probably figure each out in a few seconds of shooting at bots but the newbie corner works as well.
I tend to forget what my thumb is doing in this and cpma. This isn't CS. The window for successful hops is huge, while the mousing takes a long time to master but no time to pick up.

In total the US East server has 105 unique clients that've played on it. With its own breaks on Friday. I'm not too concerned about the current player count.
So he's a regular player then, who is used to dealing with the broken netcode. The netcode is still wonky compared to other arena shooters, and when you deal with speeds this fast in a game even a tiny amount of lag can mean a big difference between where something might be a hit and actually is a hit.
It's some sort of FOSS Quake 3, therefore it's fair to compare it to playing Quake 3 which the weapons feel overall balanced in comparison to here. Remember that having a lot of variety in guns doesn't create a good meta, the best metas in games are often the simplest.

I notice for the few times Race CTS does get played, people are picking this map. Screenshot is the current state of the leaderboards. Excluding usual Xonoticfags, the fastest time is currently 34.17 seconds.
We can make the mode slightly more interesting by making it the map to compete for fastest times. You need to enable both stats and name tracking for the server to put you on the leaderboard, but you can go back into spectators before the match ends to prevent it from registering you to XonStats.

Bots tend to idle around if there aren't any waypoint files on the map. It's particularly the case with custom maps; for servers it's up to the admin to manually create those - which Holla Forums has those custom waypoints too.
