Does gear make that much of a difference though, given how realistic it's supposed to be? One of the reasons I'm looking forward to the open beta is scavving it up and ambushing people who think their armor makes them safe.

Armor actually works in that game; as in, you won't take damage until your armor is destroyed, and pistol ammo won't penetrate it. However, if you aim for the legs or surprise them up close with a shotgun, you can murder them. The only downside is they normally has a AR/AK with a suppressor and magnified optic, so it's kinda difficult.
There's also a cooldown for being a scav (30 minutes) due to the fact there's zero risk in losing gear, but whatever you pick up as a scav you get to keep.

Couldn't boot Xell, managed to solder the Jrunner (Nand extraction chip) just fine and backed up my nand 4 times (all matched), but the rest wasn't working out and some soldier points were way too small and my chip, the XACE 360 wasn't doing anything to glitch my chip, I got the coolrunner instead but it seems it was too late because at that point the specific points were either scratched and would not longer stick to the solder. I've improved though, so next time should be good.

userbenchmark isn't a great source. unfortunately, none of the benchmark aggregators ("boss" sites, cpu-world, hwcompare, userbenchmark, cpubenchmark.net, videocardbenchmark.net) are actually very good. geekbench is the worst of all.

if you want to get a real idea of how chips perform, you're gonna have to do the legwork and look up real benchmarks performed by independent authorities in controlled environments, like those done by sites such as techreport.com, pcper.com, techpowerup.com, techspot.com, tomshardware.com, and other sites along those lines.

for emulation, you want strong single-threaded performance. Intel is the best option but Ryzen does plenty well enough for everything but Wii U (CEMU). it's true that the AM4 socket should have good longevity for upgrades, too. if you want to build a Ryzen gaming rig particularly for emulation, I would STRONGLY recommend either:

A) picking up a Ryzen 5 chip now, for 6 cores + high clocks, or
B) waiting a couple of weeks for the Raven Ridge-family APUs (Ryzen 3 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G) to come out.

without getting too into the weeds on technical details, existing Ryzen CPUs are all built using the same silicon chip called "Zeppelin". Zeppelin is a single chip with two "core complexes" (CCX).
each CCX has 4 cores, and 8MB of L3 cache. Ryzen 7 chips have all cores and cache enabled.
ryzen 5 chips have one core from each CCX disabled, and ryzen 3 chips have 2 cores from each CCX disabled as well as half the L3 cache in each CCX.
the reason this is important to know is that the CCXes are connected by an interface called "infinity fabric" which is also where the memory controller resides. infinity fabric is very fast, but there is still a significant (small, but significant) amount of latency there.
so when a core on CCX 0 wants to talk to a core on CCX 1 (because, say, a game is running on all 4 cores of a Ryzen 3) it has to wait a few nanoseconds each time, and that time adds up ultimately lowering performance. this is why I tell people to stay away from ryzen 3s.
HOWEVER, the Raven Ridge chips (Ryzen chips ending in "G") will not suffer from this as they are 4 cores on a single CCX and should in theory offer much better performance than the existing quad-core Ryzen chips out there.
Ryzen 3 2200G will be $99, have 4 cores and 4 threads just like a Core i5-7600K, run at 3.7 GHz boost, and has an integrated Vega-based GPU that should handle PS2 and GC emulators just fine. (alternatively you could install your existing graphics card) later, you can swap out the Ryzen 3 2200G for a Zen+ (April) or Zen 2 (2019) CPU and see much higher performance.
just make sure that you buy fast RAM. integrated graphics performance is limited almost solely by the RAM speed, so you'll want DDR4-2666 at the slowest and preferably 3000 or higher.

Been playing some Tekken 7 but it's pissing me of too much right now. The fucking game constantly matched me against players with a 3 bar connection or worse despite the filter being set to 4+. Coincidentally all of those players were using characters with low launchers which made it simply unbearable to play.
The ranking system is retarded enough on its own; coupled with the shitty connections the whole online experience turns into complete cancer. Still, I don't want to quit either because Lee is such an enjoyable character to play and on most days I get some really fun battles against a couple of Mishima players. I'll spend the rest of the night with Yakuza 4 though to calm down a little.

Zwei 1's combat is really aged (which is to be expected since it's a fucking game from 2001), but the game makes up all the unique dialogue, great music and assloads of secrets/reasons to back track.
Zwei 2 tones down the amount of secrets but improves in everything else. The whole recovery items = only exp source has been my favorite way to level up in an rpg, it's really fun to go into bosses under leveled and seeing if you can scrape by with the food you got.
I've only put about 6 hours into Zwei 1, but I've barely scratched the surface. Meanwhile Zwei 2 took me about 38 hours without a guide to get everything in the first play though, I haven't touched the new game plus yet which has some extra items/secrets.

I made myself a very nice cave base. I'm not doing much for security because nobody ever really goes into caves to raid. I'm just going to have very specific walls being stone/metal so that I can maintain resources AND have a secure base. I don't even need a full roof for security.
