Wakfu PVP Removal

Wakfu recently announced the addition of a new major patch. Within the patchnotes, they are refocusing pvp from the open world nation vs nation, to a much more casualized form of structured arenas (Capture the flag, or TDM with respawns)

Why remove PVP in a PVP focused game?

This game is garbage, just give up. If you want a turn based MMO go play Dofus on the mono-account servers. Wakfu is irredeemable shit that just keeps getting worse, there is no possibility of it improving. It will continue to wallow in mediocrity until the universe is a dark void dotted with dead celestial bodies, and said dead universe would be less boring than Wakfu. I regret every second and every cent I spent on this fucking game.

Dofus is even worse though. The gameplay equilibrium of wakfu is worse than dofus' (though it's always a moving target, so is dofus's), but at least in terms of gameplay variety, visibility, and depth it's significantly better (see: backstab, edge effects, the various statuses, wakfu mechanics, lack of cd/t1 restrictions, etc.). It also boasts way improved performance, significantly fewer bugs, incomparably improved animations and atmosphere, actually good level design (whereas dofus level design is downright dogshit, with every other map cluster being a maze where every enemy is aggro - good thing they nerfed aggro into the ground now, this fixes it a lot), and the ecosystem actually worked really well before they crippled it with havenworlds, overabundance of garden gems and ghost mobs (yes, players were cunts and depopulated shit, but the solution lied elsewhere than in making the game a single-player experience). Not to mention the questlines are actually relevant, the quests are actually fairly varied and sometimes even fun (most time annoying as all fuck though), and the exposition actually leaves a lasting impression.
Dofus only does 2 things better than wakfu: it has much richer enemy variety (for example, there's a plethora of riktus variants with diverse roles and designs, whereas at least last I played, there were only 2 riktus mobs in wakfu), but this is dampened by the fact 99.99% of all mobs just have a few moves copy-pasted from player skills and almost always adhere to the 4 elemental variant with appropriate weaknesses pattern (and a grand total of 2 enemy families have gimmicks in-the-wild, one of which is irrelevant); and it has significantly more content (and more complex content), such as the eponymous dofus (and trophies), idols (which actually fuck up player relations really hard), dragoturkey/seemyools, their variations and breeding them, pet raising (as in, they can be raised to acquire a variety of stat profiles, unlike in wakfu where they are fixed), etc.
I play on dramak right now and I'm close to 200. I plan to quit at 200, perhaps even before, because although monoaccount makes a massive difference (the game actually feels like an MMO even though it's doing its best to try to make you play alone, see pre-nerf treasure hunts for example, or kolo as is), it's just not enough. The whole game is tuned for level 200 gameplay, and the recent focus of ankama seems to be on pvp-related balance even though pvm is virtually the entirety of the game and the game is virtually unplayable in true pvp.

I think there's a lot of promise in there conceptually. Wakfu did a much better job of making some of the classes feel like their theming intended them to feel… At least they did at one point. Seems like everytime I check on the game, they have overhauled and ripped apart another class for no fucking reasons.

If they weren't shitty frogs, they'd probably be permanently partnered with a larger studio and publisher, and they'd be able to unfuck both of their MMO, but also release actual vidya that does their universe justice… or at the least, release Les Gardiens and Islands of Wakfu on platforms people can actually play them on.

Why do all the games with great designs have to be so awful. It's always wasted on some MMO or lame JRPG.

Wakfu died one week before the beta ended, and they just kept beating the horse over and over. There is no reason to play, move on.
They had amazing ideas early on but they decided to shit on everything that made the game unique and to copy paste all the mechanics and concepts from all dying mmos like daily quests, mounts, pets that you need to feed everyday, global marketplaces, remove secrets, put zaaps all over the goddamn place, add layer unto layer to crafting recipes so that making a table that is a useless cosmetic worth 10 kamas requires you to collect resources and craft materials for hours.

Just read the comics and watch the movies.

That is very accurate and extremely sad. The game was amazing late in beta. During beta they just kept improving and improving the game. Then at release they suddenly shat all over it.

Basically, the original plans were to make an mmo with absolutely NO npcs and NO quests, completely player driven. No npcs to sell or buy shit from, the only npcs that existed were the governors of each area who were only there so you could vote during elections or to tell you about the population of animals/plants.

The biggest reason to bring PVE into the focus is generally because it is something the developer has a lot of control over. Where PVP they control a lot less (especially open world PVP).

And with control comes ability to make money. Be it just by making getting through the content take a certain time so you can keep the subscription going or being able to make microtransactions that make people better at those engagements.
This is much harder to do in PVP.

pvp in mmo's is pointless anyway. there no skill involved because the player with higher level/better gear will just automatically win.

Fun fact: Ankama was working on a Dofus+Wakfu spinoff mmo called Dofus Arena. The idea was that it would be just a duel game, each player controlling a party of both Dofus and Wakfu characters.
You were allocated an amount of points and you used those points to select the number of party members and their equipment AND their skills. You could have 6 party members with no equipment and very basic skills or 2 with super powerful gear and many skills. You didnt need to grind equipment, you had all of that at the start
There were 2 modes: Ranked were you made a team with with EVERYTHING unlocked, and casual or challenge modes were you played against other players or special npc fights. On these last modes, each character would level up and gain points, which you could use to unlock stat modifiers for them or sidegrades for skills or just entire skills. I reiterate, these things were entirely unlocked from the start in ranked, the only reason you needed to unlock them in casual i assume is to give new players a sort of progression system and ease them into the huge amount of skill and equipment they had to make teams.
They had planned to sell cosmetics for the player avatar as well as emotes.
