Digital isn't even cheaper than physical a lot of the time nowadays, and you can't even resell it. I have moved away from digital media some time ago because of that.

I am very patient, but waiting until the next 90s for a PS3 emulator is too much for me. PS2 emulation was still shit last time I checked. Hell, even PS1 emulation has a bunch of issues. The only perfect way to pirate games is using original hardware, unless the console is older than the Saturn. I still have some issues even with NES emulators, though.

Nintendo consoles (except the N64) are an exception, though.

its not just sega, it's happened to a lot of companies. Just the problem with dealing with licensed music sadly.

This would make sense if it were just stuff like Jet Set Radio where a lot of the music was out of house and for general consumption, but It happens pretty consistently with SEGA. The way they handle licensing even for music made specifically for their games is just jacked up. A couple examples that stand out in my head are how they can no longer use the lyrics for Toot Toot Sonic Warrior in Sonic CD rereleases and how they had to replace various tracks in Yakuza Kiwami 2 much more recently.

And it's been happening for since at least the genesis. I.E they had to change music for Sonic spinball because they don't, or at least didn't actually own the rights to the original music.

it's a licensing problem which is also a money problem. It's how the contracts are arranged and I don't think Sega in 1992 thought to ensure they had distribution rights on another artist songs 10, 20, 30 years from when the game was originally released.

Rockstar also had to patch GTA3, vice city, and san andreas to remove music they no longer had the distribution licenses to.

It's not the best way to go about these things, but it's reality for how the industry is set up. The originals are all out there for anyone to play still.
