He seems to be very weak against gunners but as you can see we're all blademasters.
(Meanwhile some speedrunner faggots killed him in 1:26)

Me and my friends got our first kill after about 5 hunts but then we were able to kill him consistently after that. Our lowest time was like 10:24

Yeah but seeing that made me feel like the hammer has been needed quite a bit since you need to immobilize the boss to dish out damage with the new combo, which might be why they gave you a paralysis hammer to begin with.

the ranged weapons got nothing but buffs, especially given that you can now move while shooting, it's hard to even get hit and you have no pauses in your damage outside of reloading. They for some dumb-ass reason also gave them super moves making them even more obscenely powerful.

Yeah, hammer got the worst of the stick along with horn for whatever reason near as I can tell.

After 700 hours of maining hammer I'd say it's still usable but it might be time to diss it in favour of something I've never tried before.

Tried the World beta yesterday and I liked some of the improvements like the lack of loading screens during quests but the excessive hand holding made it feel very unsatisfying. Still, I really want to play some Monhun again, the last one I played was 4U but I didn't get that far into it because the 3DS controls felt too uncomfortable. So what do I do know, give 4U another chance? Or should I play XX instead, how is that one compared to 4U?

Don't play XX, it's almost universally regarded as the worst Monster Hunter game they've made yet. MH4U was the best. You just need to get yourself a grip or something for the 3DS because that piece of crap has the worst ergonomics of any video game thing I've ever used in my life. And if you have an N3DS cut off the ribber nub and replace it with a thinkpad clitmouse or a psp stick cap.

You should probably just get accustomed to using handheld controls in general, since most games worth getting tend to come out on them anyway. Otherwise, your best bets are P3rd HD on the PS3, or emulating the PSP games on the PC.

not to mention disposable earplugs, steambombs, wystones and the likes were testing grounds for mantles.

Except it wasn't the balance of X/XX that was the worst part of the game. The quest pacing was awful, the anime supermoves completely detracted from the feeling of getting good, and had the horrible charm system. Styles were horribly done with most of them feeling completely tacked on for most weapons. Absolute evasion completely ruined the lategame especially once XX introduced it's exclusive monsters

4U had stupid shit, but it was much less stupid than X/XX.

i don't think i cared about balance back then but the better you get at the game to the point where nothing hits you it gets stale so you try shit like speedrunning it. that's when balance issues becomes too apparent especially when you use all weapons nearly equally. fuck gunner weapons tho.

I'd say it's the highpoint of the modern MHs. that being 3/4/x/World.

the only reason 3 isn't top is because of charm tables and underwater combat feeling so awful.

This holy fuck I can't stand it. The only thing that miffs me about 4U is the RNG cats, which are a huge pain in the ass and I hate every one of them and they're all ugly neon pink it's so fucking bad. Compared to charm tables though I can at least deal with it without being locked in forever and ever.

The seasons were cool on paper, but ultimately it just meant that certain quests/areas/items got locked off for x amount of time. It didn't really add anything meaningful for me.

Basically, what I would love to see is 2G/FU, with the onsen system and farm from P3rd, the masked buddies from 3G/U and Item Sets from 4th gen.

It doesn't even have to literally be the shakalakas from 3U. It's just that the current Palico system has grown into this giant monstrosity of a cat management sim and it provides no useful payoff. The masks were a useful mechanic because you got one, it had well defined effects, and you could control them by signaling. If the cats had the same sort of setup, mechanically, they would be great…but no, you have to slog through RNG madness, you have to "train" them, you have to "teach" them skills, you have to mix and match them to get the right output, you have no control at all over their actions during the quest, and they have so many skills and abilities and attributes that it just waters down the whole effect and loads this giant spreadsheet madness onto you when all you wanted was something that was a little more useful than dogshit during a hunt.

FU moveset is one of the biggest detractors for me, that and the stupid hitboxes.
FU hitboxes are complete shit and that alone is enough to make it one the worst games in the franchise, FU high point is the absurd amount of content the game has and i still don't understand why they haven't used all older areas in the 3rd and 4th generations as well as all monsters too, space was clearly not a problem seeing as how many monsters and areas they shoved into XX.

The p3rd palico system is good enough, it's simple and give you enough control over how they will act in the quest, i do agree that being able to control they through menu commands would be a good addition.
The one on Gen is a nightmare, and the farm is really shit too.

Just tried that MH world demo and I feel like it felt a little clunky and the games changed a lot. Didn't really feel like I was having the same fun as I was in 4U

Also im not sure if this is a new LR thing or a demo thing but you're allowed 9 total carts now? how do you make people play better if they have so many windows to make mistakes while hunting. I kid you not even with the overpowered armor you get in the demo (or at least thats what it felt like since i barely took any damage if i got hit) my team still carted about 5 times before we finished hunting that new vulture type monster.

Are you sure about this? If anything it felt ridiculously well-flowing. That's one of the few good things I noticed in comparison to mh3/4 (my only experience).
I do think it's radically different though. Some things are too jarring, like environmental helpers and scout flies.

Basic movement is absolutely clunkier than 3/4. Your turning radius both with and without sprinting is noticeably wider. That's a big deal with something like GS where re-positioning yourself as fast as possible can mean the difference between a charge swing or a miss.

It could be that i havent played a MH game since 4U and that was a while ago so maybe re-learning the moves just felt a bit off.

The scout flies are kind of lame, it was more fun having to land a paint bomb on the monster in order to track it because it teaches you to always be prepared or at least know your target well enough where you know where they are going to go next. I haven't really seen the helpers though, are they the ones who help you catch a monster?

I also don't really like the damage numbers that pop up, it was pretty jarring to see a huge ass hammer doing what to me seems like shit damage while a cinematic monster attack does a whopping 462! I kid you not. (Our Barroth got attacked by some sort of salamander monster)

To give a final answer on that I'll need to go back and replay both side by side to say for sure. My gut answer though is that 2nd gen was when I had the most fun with the game and I'd like it changed as little as possible outside of QoL shit like Item Sets etc. That said it might be interesting to see Insect Glaive, but without mounting as a mechanic, so the leap is purely a way for melee users to hit weak/break points higher up on a monster.

I finished alatreon on a full run of p3rd 2 weeks ago and on the same day i started FU and i'm going through high rank.
I can safely say that aside huge, humongous levels of content in FU, it pales in comparison with p3rd.
If p3rd had the monsters and areas from FU (with their hitboxes fixed, obviously) i would not even look at FU anymore.

I will hold my judgement until I get to high rank. LR in every game is usually kind of fun but mostly just learning maps and building an item base so you don't have to farm later. They have yet to show anything with HR though probably because they don't want to scare off the shits.

Don't XX is unironically the worst time I've had playing a monster hunter game. It felt like they just went HEY THAT'S COOL and threw it in there without thinking about how it'd mesh with the game as a whole. 3 styles per weapon is massive overkill because most of them aren't unique enough to justify existing, the HAs completely kill the flow of the hunts.
I couldn't even finish it and I've finished every other monster hunter game… well except world I probably won't finish that one either because it's bad

XX was pretty shitty but the content it added that wasn't in X was mostly good. The new deviants are mostly okay at worst, Azurebolt being the only bad one, and Hazewing, Divinesight, and Shredclaw are all great. Atlal-ka is fun the first few times, and Valfalk is really good, super fast, and very unique. Brave style is complete shit though, avoid it like the plague, it's comparable to having Guard Up and Guard +Infinity on every single weapon (even ones that don't have shields), and on most it also gets better damage output and better evades.

It is the torch thingy bug. Something about having multiple of them stacked on top of each other makes them deal shit ton of damage in seconds even when it shows normal damage.

user you're seriously comparing normal players to seemingly the best MH players on the planet. These guys managed to kill an alatreon with only 3 hits due to their sheer dedication and autism for the game alone.
Nergy is painstakingly hard for everyone else to kill. In singleplayer I only managed to kill it with DB and CB, every other attempt I couldnt even kill it within the time limit or gave up after carting too much.

These guys managed to kill Gogmazios in under a minute I think with a few HBGs or the other. This isnt that suprising compared to that.

Yeah, there's no longer armor sets, just skins, and weapons have been reduced to just the different types with no more individual weapons that do different elements or have different stats - You get one set of DS and they do water, one gunlance and it does fire (obvs,) one IG and it does dragon, etc.

The guildmarms are all boys now, too.

In truth there are no more gunner sets and some weapons like CB, Bow, GL are fucking broken now. You'll see how monstrously strong they are in beta speedrunner videos on youtube.

Is this another case like XX? During XX's demos, GL was great but then in the real game it was complete shit because shot damage falls off so hard and the demo had a higher level of shot than it should have had for LR.

In World some of the weapons gained more mobility. When it comes to GL you can reload it mid combo so good GL players manage to exploit that so they can shoot the entire clip nearly all the time which does shitloads of damage.

The environment will literally just help you in combat. (traps monsters, full heals, free flash bombs)

Fuck man, I'm just trying GL on 4u now and this shit is hard to master.

World is so easy that that monte fag can beat the big bad title monster at High Rank while using Low Rank armor and constantly fucking up his moves.

There's a group playing 4U at G Rank and a group playing 4G at Low Rank I believe.

Does anyone who watched the stream know what the mantle with the glowing green stuff does?

It's still relying heavily on shot damage, so, in late HR and the eventual G-rank, it won't be as strong as it is in the demo. Still, it does look like it's going to be a lot more powerful than even a perma-Brave-mode GL would have been. Unfortunately it also looks like it's extremely unfun to play and completely undermines everything that was fun about GL. World is a pile of monkey's paws; we all wish for GL to stop getting nerfed, and to stop being the second worst people in the game. We finally get our wish, and GL is finally not completely useless, but it loses all of its fun and barely resembles what it once was.

Na, I'm hr 650 or something. I'd be down for playing some lower level stuff tho. I gear down for the different tiers so as not to take all the fun out of it.

Interesting. I've been GL main in both FU, and 4U. it's a ton of fun once you stop guarding, and start evading. evasion distance is better most of the time than evasion 2. If we ever play together I'd be more than happy to show you the basics.

Side note: kinda pains me to know my favorite wep is now the go to shitters what with world comin' out.

Eh, I prefer this version more. Before it was just poking and shooting, but now you have more options with it due to the added combos. You can still use it like how it was in the previous games but I prefer to do the combos and along with the clip emptying shot now. I ignored it for two games and now its one of the most fun weapons in the game for me now. Thats something that I can't be mad about at all.

Im mad that shitters can get away with being shitters. Thats the part that pisses me off about world. Other games arent afraid to punish players for being bad and not learning how to git gud at the game but MHW just threw that out the window.

I got my shinobi set for gunning and I'm loving the hunt-in-my-pajamas look of them but was wondering if anyone else feels like evade dist or evade+ might fuck your learned reflexes? There's so many slots I could easily grab up evade dist, raise the evasion+1 to 2 or 3, or even gem out the defense and health debuffs or grab attack skills. Evade dist right now is treating me very, very well, but I'm worried it's making me a worse hunter.

There is always possibility that it can affect you if you rely too much on it. But evade distance is pretty common for gunners.

The question then, I guess, is if it's better or more useful than evade+2/3, some surviveability, or attack up skills.

If you're actually good at evading, why would you get more evade skills? If you are actually good at not getting hit attack skills will always work wonders for you.

It can make a very fun playstyle with Seregios gear. At one point I had a Seregios gun set based around dodge rolling away from attacks while reloading constantly that way.

The seregios lbg is a tremendous amount of fun, yeah - Never having to stop to reload, replaced with a need to constantly be dodging, is really interesting
