Buyfag / Collector Thread 2018 Edition

New year, new shit to find and play. What have you gotten since the last thread anons? Get yourself anything good for Chrismas?

What're you:

You're keeping your machines all nice and clean right? Them capacitors haven't blown up on you just yet?

On a side note for it, any anons familiar with old PCs that can point in the direction of a fun computer to fuck around with BASIC on? Bonus points if it has a nice aesthetic. Already have a PET, but needing to repair the fucker first.

Waste of money, pirate everything.

I've invested some money into a small indie game, it's called Fallout 4. You should do the same.

You can't pirate hardware.

Bough a switch for my 6 year old niece yesterday.
Today I went back around to play it and the dock has stopped working.
Thing is a cheap as fuck piece of plastic that just acts as a HDMI pass through and charger cradle. Nintendo thinks this is worth in the region of £80.
No way to charge the controllers without also charging the screen at the same time because Nintendo cheaped out and didn't include the controller grip thing with a charger port. They want £20. For a piece of plastic with a USB-C port.

Why the fuck do people think this is a good company again?

Why in the world did you buy it? The fact that it's a shoddy machine is already well known.

To answer OP, I have plans to get a Sega Saturn and a PC Engine Duo. The PC Engine Duo will take a bit of work because of those bad capacitors.

...

I've mostly been busy with work, but I've been fixing things like PS4s, just waiting on some ribbon cable to come in. Modding N64s for RGB. I've also got quite a few recent limited run games too. double dragon 4 and river city melee just came in, and I recently ordered both Taiko no Tatsujin Session de Dodon ga Don! and "The Bit Trip" collection. The latter I recall hearing good things about but never played the games before, and Taiko especially because I'm eager to get my rhythm game fix.

I still have CRT monitors I'm willing to part for cheap. A fantastic Ikegami TM14-17RZ 600TVL RGB/S-video/composite monitor with a remarkable shadowmask picture and a Panasonic BT-M1310Y which is a bit fuzzy in its image but has all the desired pro monitor features. Also my girlfriend got me a copy of the made in abyss map of the abyss which is gigantic. I think it's about 4 feet tall and at least 3 feet wide. I wonder if they make frames that big. The OST on Vinyl will be making its way to me eventually as well. Also the panzer dragoon saga OST is also debuting on Vinyl, I plan to get that as well but there won't be news about that until the 29th.

Soon, once my Taiko set arrives I'll be taking a picture of my PS4 collection which I'm very happy with. I feel like it's become gigantic.

as for hardware to program basic on, I have a tandy-1000EX that I don't have much use for OP.

What's a reasonable price for an Amiga 1000? I've looked before and most seemed to be in the 250 to 300 dollar range.

I'm buying up old computers so I can kill the planet by bitmining. Have fun paying 200,000 for a gt 210

Is what idiots think of collectors.
No fuck you moron I'm not buying so I can resell, I'm doing so I can use it.

Haven't found much in the way of worthwhile vidya at good prices lately where I am (at least as far as things I don't already have). Think the only pick ups since the last thread have been Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow for $10 (cart only sadly, but even as a cart only copy it's usually a good $30+ at places that aren't Gamestop), and Exist Archive from an Amazon clearance, which I figured I can at least get my $10 of enjoyment from. Had somewhat better luck with anime finds lately, namely Gunsmith Cats for $6 and The Skull Man for $14 (I think). Been considering Arc Rise Fantasia as a store got it in and I don't see it much around here, but as of now they're waiting for another location to send a better condition disk as the one they got with it was pretty shit. Said copy would be otherwise complete, but the cover art will need some repairs/reprinting (though it seems hard to find a properly formatted cover scan of it to begin with), as those shitty eco-cases Nintendo started using in seventh gen make it easier for big holes to get poked through shit. Otherwise though I've just been saving money.

Mostly just got money, but my dad did get me a six volume boxed set of Gurren Lagann as a gift, which is pretty nice.

Also, as a heads up to any other .hackanons that might be somewhat close to where I live, I saw a copy of .hack Vol.3: Outbreak earlier at the Gilbert/Mesa Zia Records for $12 plus tax. Not sure if it's complete (as far as the manual and Liminality disc go), and the back cover seems a bit faded, but it's a better price than one is liable to find for it elsewhere. Also a lesson to be had for people searching actual stores for good finds: Always check the cart, or wherever already tagged stuff goes before making it to the shelves.

Last Nintendo systems I bought were a preowned Wii and a new (albeit on clearance) DS Lite a number of years back, namely due to their subsequent systems both not having enough games of personal interest and NoA generally doing their best to ruin the ones I would have been interested in. Honestly haven't really considered the actual build quality of their more recent systems, though I suppose it should be expected given how the old "toss-it-out-a-three-story-window-and-it'll-still-work-Nintendium" seems to have stopped being a thing since the Lite anyhow (have to treat those hinges with a bit of a gentle touch).

Should have gotten something better user. Return the fucker and get them a Mega Drive or shit.

Hope you have fun when you get one. Best use Psuedo Saturn.

Never seen a Tandy in my life. Were the sold in Bongland at all?

Why'd you want a 1000 over a 600/1200?

Nah, they were from radioshack which I don't think was a chain over in yurope.

Also I forgot to mention I ordered a bunch of soldering equipment and just got my hor air rework station (Zeny 858D) and a beautiful bottle of liquid flux from MG Chemicals. Gonna be doing a lot of exciting work with this stuff.

True patrician taste.
I just put a new needle in my CED player, but nothing vidya related.

Not even once.

upvoted my good sir

What are the side effects exactly?

AIDS

getting fucked in the ass because a desk covered in rainbow light attracts every faggot in a 5 mile radius

I just like the look of the 1000 the best. Classy clean and professional. They can be upgraded almost as well as more popular models like the 500 and 1200 too.just not as easily

I demand you recommend me some artbooks/novels/booklets/etc that you enjoyed.

Why are redditors so fucking obnoxious?

downvoted :(

They why does Win10 lock your PC if you use "unauthorized hardware"?

Wait, what? Tell me more.

soy

Yes, but why exactly do they have such grating mannerisms?

Much like the overwhelming majority of the population they're just insufferable faggots. There's nothing more to it. Probably around 99.99% of people on earth deserve to die tbh.

you can if you're chinese. there's plenty of pirate hardware on the market, from the lowly gameboy all the way up to bootleg cisco-branded routers

google.it

Check out this beauty, got it for a $100 a few days ago, needs a recap, but for that price whatever.

SOON

get your cap kit from console5 and for the love of god work carefully.

Nothing yet, waiting for more funds, but I got my Super Everdrive and immediately put it into the US-style cart case I got from CHYNAH, and slapped on a label I cooked up and printed out.
Nintendo 64 Everdrive, if I can drive myself to desire to play N64 games. I didn't have one as a kid, and I played a few things on it when it was new, but it never latched onto me like the PSX and Saturn.
I have a Mac Plus and other stuff in need of re-capping, but I can't be assed to get started on any of them.
I'm still sitting on my 7800 in the midst of an s-video mod.

That's only half true. Since MS can force updates on you they they are perfectly capable of preventing you from using any hardware or software they see fit. They could, but currently they dont. Not that it should matter to you because you use Linux and only have legacy versions of Windows running in a VM, right?

This is but one part of why Win7 is the last Windows version I will use. Those faggots following the toejam-eating autist code-god of theirs had better hurry the fuck up and make 2018 the Year of the Linux Desktop.

there's a good 30 or so games worth giving a shot on the n64. Goemon's great adventure is one of the best 2D platformers ever and is worth playing for so many reasons. The music is some of my favorite and there's not quite much like that funky blend of disco beats and japanese instruments.

I've got the start of an acceptable collection, but N64 nostalgia is thin with me.

I've saved so much money from games not being interesting and hardware being overpriced. Although I did want to build a new computer to animate porn in blender. I lucked out though because of the recent intel exploits and the fact that intel and amd still have hardware drm.

I'm one of these faggots who's actually considering a fullset of loose N64 carts, mostly because i spent my childhood weekends picking out N64 carts at a fleamarket and i already own about a third of the library, but some of the prices on random games are just such a fucking turn off, like why in the fuck is a BOWLING game worth about as much as Earthbound

As a patron of the lewd arts i wholly support this idea.

Is that a vinyl? Makes me wonder how easy it is to rip/upload something from that format.

The art/lore books for games I like tend not to be brought overseas sadly (while the games can make it, extra materials, even including soundtracks, don't seem to be considered worth the effort for native release), and while a number of those do have scans if you know where to look, it's rarer to find any that have been given the flatscan+translation+insertion treatment. One artbook I'd like to be able to see in full (especially in English some day, as the game itself did't have the best translation, and the book seems to have plenty of descriptions with it) hasn't even been given the scanning treatment to begin with from what I've seen.

I assume those readily bypass region checks as well as authenticity checks?

All SNES flash carts have compatibility issues since the original carts often had additional hardware gimmicks, such as the SuperFX chip. AFAIK you cant get a cart with 100% compatibility.
N64 flash carts all have issues with saving because the original carts had ~5 different methods.

it was the console that gave us bing bing wahoo but I think it's such an easy console to play the games worth caring about that it's just not worth the time to talk about for much. I'll always have memories of being a kid in school, talking about the latest saturn and playstation games with my friends, what we were playing out and what we were missing out on, but the n64 guys always had just like one or two games they'd talk about all year.

What gets me is there's no surprises on the N64. There's a few Japanese only games like Wonder Project J2, but nothing as eye catching as bulk slash.

porn is degenerate.

there will also be a CD release. I'll be getting the vinyl to go along with my panzer dragoon limited edition vinyl.

this one

Jesus, that can't be cheap, neither is the genuine copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga i assume you already own.

the OST on vinyl is a pretty new thing, I don't really know how much it's worth. I just checked and the same version I have, the limited edition, goes for about 60-70. I don't own a copy of panzer dragoon saga, the only saturn game I own is virtua cop, but I have many game copies and have beaten panzer dragoon saga and consider it one of the best RPGs ever made.

The Super Everdrive plays everything but stuff that needs various chips, like Mega Man X 2 and 3, Kirby's Dreamland 3, SuperFX games, and more. Still, if you don't give a rat's ass about that, it plays the overwhelming majority of the games released, for half the price of the SD2SNES. Not that the latter is a bad buy, as it has the potential for future improvements, but I wasn't $200 in love with the SNES library, even with games modded with CD quality soundtracks.

Before Zelda came out, the only N64 games people in my high school played were Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64.

this and goldeneye were the subjects of discussion around the system pretty much. Normalfags didn't talk about much, and the people who got into it know there wasn't much to actually talk about

I guess it's the sort of thing you'd have to research and compare what chips the games you'd want to play would or wouldn't need. Was mainly wondering if you could generally just put a rom on it regardless or region. Forgot about game-by-game chip variables.

Shame Sega apparently lost the code for PDS. Seems the sort of game that could benefit from a rerelease. I suppose at the very least, I'll just have to wait until I get a computer able to handle Saturn emulation (assuming the game itself emulates well); seen Yabause ports for stuff like the Wii and PS3 as well, but given the "v0.1" release names and update dates (2010 in the case of the PS3 one), I get the feeling they're either not being worked on anymore, or at least shouldn't be trusted to have worked well anyhow. But that's just my assumption, which I suppose could be wrong.

Mednafen runs PDS but it's a game which takes full advantage of the saturn hardware and the game wants to run every bit of that hardware exactly as it expects. The most common thing I've seen with PDS issues in emulation is the music getting fucked up which is a shame because it's got one of the most beautiful soundtracks in a game, period. Technically accomplished with each track featuring various polyrhythms bouncing off one another and aesthetically unified under a sort of tribal beat– having shoddy emulation ruin that by dropping instruments out from the music playback is plain jarring. Hearing the rolling drums of the Atolm Dragon track lose the kicks or the echoing organ for just a note or two really butchers it. And premonition of war without Eri Ito's distant singing is just a shame.

Also keep in mind the game is 100% voiced, which is something to really behold once you play it.

What is that contraption user?
It's got buttons that humm and give light
what can this thing be that i found
kudos to whoever gets what that's a reference to

If you're curious, it's an Ikegami HTM-2050RA1, a multiformat master monitor capable of 480i to 1080i

That's pretty spectacular,but i don't see a button to change resolutions.

I just realized how dumb that post was, input determines resolution, not the output device,my bad

How does it run on SSF?

I can't buy a new computer until prices come down after 30 years of crypto mining. So I can't animate in general because blender takes a long time to render still images.

Are animated baneposts degenerate?

Ah,well i still support the idea if you ever get the ability to do so without it taking an unreasonable amount of time for yourself.

Turbo grafx and saturn games i find for, relatively cheap. At a decent discount

A switch, was mostly waiting to see if more games that aren't Super Bomberman R Mario Odyssey or Xenoblade 2 and a bunch of shitty indie ports, but they had to go with fucking Nintendo Labo.

The Turbo Express i mentioned earlier, also had a bunch of discs sent off to get resurfaced from a guy i know

it doesn't automatically switch between SD and HD, you have to select that from the menu, but provided you enabled 480p on the remote board it'll just display whatever you're sending it.

I haven't tried it myself, no interest in SSF since mednafen is just much easier - but I don't really emulate these days.

did you hear that limited run is producing the long box jewel cases?

Lords of thunder huh?
wonder if they're related to the lord of lightning?

No that's new, Only time i ever heard anything about new long boxes, was a failed kikestarter years ago. Hope to god they don't treat this shit like they do all of their games, l'm not going to camp their fucking website just to buy a bunch a few empty boxes

they're going to be ordering the cases until people stop buying them, so thankfully they'll be in stock for a long time. I'm going to urge my boss to order a ton for the future.

I don't know what is it with tiny little computers like the Raspberry Pi or those windows sticks like that kangaroo thing but whenever I see anything about those useless to me tiny shits I get an urge to buy them.

Better purge that urge but quick.

Always nice to see the occasional user that's got/has enjoyed that game. Shame Bamco doesn't seem to see reason to make it officially more available, but they seem to have done that in regards to all the pre-PS3 Tales as far as rereleases go (barring Symphonia having a native PS3 "HD" version, and Abyss getting a 3DS port for whatever reason). Why no Wild Arms 1 if you have the second game? Also the two copies of Vagrant Story.

Assuming you live in NA, is every copy of that game bugged out here? I seem to recall hearing Ganbarian sent XSEED faulty game code to ship, or something, but I do know of other games that have seen NA release where some prints are broken and some are fine.

I heard Japanese Sega Saturns don't have region-locking, is that true?

Has anybody here ever bought homebrew stuff?

Yeah Eternia's pretty fucking rad. Shame Sony america has such a autistic grudge against retail ports and they handed the PSP port to Ubisoft.

Sony gave that out for free on PSN a few years back as part of some vita celebration. The extra vagrant story came with a lot i bought recently, with Legend of Legaia, FF9 and a few other games.

Yeah it's messed up, kind of a crap shoot on whether or not it's going to shit itself but from what i remembers there's ways to mitigate it.

Occasionally, for example, vid related.

It's very hard to get your hands on most normal homebrew though as a rule of thumb, faggot resellers like to kike up the prices of those kind of games to stupid levels because the people making the homebrew either can't or won't make more

True (and it's not just the PSP they barred various releases from; see them forcing Agetec to shitcan Shadow Tower Abyss' localization when it was nearly done because "muh graphics" and "no audience"), but it could have also just been Bamco not even thinking a western release of the port would sell well here anyhow, given how badly the PS1 entries sold here, hence Ubisoft picking it up for PAL on the PSP (and from what I know, bugging the fuck out of at least one print of it). In particular, I'd think that might be the reason Destiny and Eternia have never seen digital rereleases here in the west (either that, or some issue with voiced audio), but too my knowing Japan hasn't seen any digital rereleases of the early games either (though to be fair, Phantasia and Destiny have better versions on other systems out there anyhow, whereas Eternia hasn't exactly needed a remake).

Actually kind of surprised Capcom finally managed to get BoF III rereleased out here, if only as a digital PSP version that NA never saw (which of course limits usability out here to the Vita, whereas the original PS1 version could have been PS3/PSP/Vita as an eboot).

...

What's a good monitor to get for a Commodore 64 anons? I'm looking for a 1084S, but they're fuckers to track down. Any good alternatives?

I used to have a Commodore monitor, but no longer. Now I just use a capture card and an s-video cable. I'd be more interested if I had the time and drive to learn coding better than simple BASIC word and number games.

this was an official corsair advertisement

Cool, another company for the blacklist.
