Obscure nip games on Steam

It seems like there's a lot if you're willing to sift through the garbage pile. I don't want to buy anything from Valve or give them money, but I do want to give these fags money in some way if they've made a good product. For now I suppose I'm just looking to pirate
Are there any that you've found that were worth your time? Be they shmups, JRPGs, VNs (I expect a lot of them), Bullet Hells, or something else entirely. It'd be nice to know everything worthwhile on this shitheap of a platform.

since GoG's (and other storefronts) jap selection is far from the best it might be worth asking them to sell games that were only exclusive to Steam on their platforms. What do you think?

I don't know how "obscure" it would have to be to count but here's an example of the types of shit I'm looking for

store.steampowered.com/app/450950/Danmaku_Unlimited_3/
store.steampowered.com/app/537110/Angels_of_Death/
store.steampowered.com/app/440540/Ara_Fell/
store.steampowered.com/app/441280/Pharaoh_Rebirth/
store.steampowered.com/app/283820/KAMUI/
store.steampowered.com/app/550080/VALKYRIE_DRIVE_BHIKKHUNI/
store.steampowered.com/app/524850/Alicemare/
store.steampowered.com/app/680320/The_Heiress/
store.steampowered.com/app/370460/Arcana_Heart_3_LOVE_MAX/
store.steampowered.com/app/323450/Alphadia_Genesis/
store.steampowered.com/app/445430/Seinarukana_The_Spirit_of_Eternity_Sword_2/
Some of these you can argue aren't really "obscure" but hearing about them vs the amount of people who've actually played them and can say whether they're good or bad are two entirely different things
There were some on this list I had to delete because I did find them on GoG like crimzon and astebreed, but I'd still never really heard of them

Princess Maker 2

I guess I'll just post more as I find them and
'nother shmup
store.steampowered.com/app/407380/Strania__The_Stella_Machina/
some of the webMs for the ones in OP because they couldn't fit, filesize limit and all

Thanks for nothing Poland.

I could guess what its about but what do you do in it?

They're getting better slowly, but you're right. Its pretty fucking annoying.

didn't mean to repost that one, embarrassing

Raise your adopted daughteru from age 10 to 18 and see what career she ends up in.

store.steampowered.com/app/448160/WOLFLAME/
store.steampowered.com/app/349690/ARMED_SEVEN/
there sure are a fuckton of shmups on Steam

store.steampowered.com/app/636960/Wo_Yao_Da/
This one is just fucking weird, but it looks like it might be fun

Sounds pretty cute and comfy user, got any caps of how your daughteru turned out?

...

:^)

I'm happy with the amount of JRPGs I'm finding, though there's a fair amount of RPG Maker stuff I'm slightly leery about as well
store.steampowered.com/app/445420/Aselia_the_Eternal_The_Spirit_of_Eternity_Sword/

Maybe there's more to this game than I thought…

store.steampowered.com/app/250660/Bunny_Must_Die_Chelsea_and_the_7_Devils/
Interesting looking metroidvania but the concept art is a bit weird
store.steampowered.com/app/389870/Mugen_Souls/
Ehh…
store.steampowered.com/app/316840/The_Sacred_Tears_TRUE/

I think that's all I'll post for now
Really any obscure nip games would be nice, doesn't even have to be from Steam if that's too restrictive but I'd like to get these away from this cancerous storefront

some of the webMs were too big, rip

I kinda found that game annoying, but not as much as "Long Live the Queen"
My daughterfu grew up to be a warrior Queen

...

You're pathetic. I played that game nonstop for an entire day trying to max it out and beat that fucking faggot from overseas, eventually, I destroyed him with the magic shit but everyone was scared of me

LLtQ sucks because it's not actually a sim, it's just masquerading as one. It's completely trial and error.

Yeah, it is. I found it quite fun though.

You think you'd get the point that cuckchanners are not welcome here by now.

...

Mugen Souls was butchered by NISA. Remember to never post anything handled by NISA.

Ah, didn't notice that, good catch user. Thank you

I'm a degenerate weeb who went off the deep end years ago and even I don't recognise most of the crap that ends up on Steam.

Steam is for ironic weebs and learning the difference can save your life.

Some of them are not obscure but since they haven't been mentioned :

-Fortune Summoners (2D Action-platformer)
-One way Heroics (the only rogue-lite I've liked besides FTL)
-Gurumin (3D Action-platformer)
-Tobari and the Night of the Curious Moon (2D platformer with kirby-like gimmick. The last worlds get batshit insane in terms of difficulty)
-Rabi-Ribi (Metroid-like with emphasis on combat/bosses. I think it's by chinks, not nips, but very good regardless)
-Fairy Bloom Freesia (Beat-them-all)
-Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds (Beat-them-all. It's a spinoff of a versus fighting game and has more fighting game mechanics than your average beat-them-all)
-Ether Vapor Remaster (Shoot-them-up)
-Trapper Knight Sharpshooter Princess (TRPG heavily inspired by Fire Emblem, but with level design and balance that blows anything IntSys made in the last decade out of the water)
-War of the Human Tanks (Semi-realtime TRPG. Very interesting battle system, but the barebones aesthetics and somewhat long cutscenes can be a turnoff for some)
-Bunny Must Die (Since you mentioned it in , I very much recommend it, it's an excellent metroid-like, but the rather unorthodox controls can be bothersome)

Because most of these are doujin titles, the type of stuff you'd encounter at Comiket, not actual published releases.

Wow user, you really showed all those weeb poseurs.

My nigga.
Gurumin is a Falcom game, right? Its weird that I've seen it get so little attention and discussion when its likely good as hell.
Trapper Knight Sharpshooter Princess (TRPG heavily inspired by Fire Emblem, but with level design and balance that blows anything IntSys made in the last decade out of the water)
Is there any Fire Emblem game you could compare it to in terms of quality? It sounds like it'd be fun. Do the characters and story hold up and is there permadeath?
Sounds sort of like Valkyria Chronicles, or am I completely off the mark?
Care to explain why? It sounds like it might be worth checking out for me.

No, it is like real time minesweeper.

Not really, the game's a 2D grid of squares where you don't know what's in most of them but there's enemy tanks somewhere, so you have to work a lot with supressive fire, radars, educated guesses based on where the enemy last shot at, and (hopefully) disposable scouts. Similarily you don't want to leave units in enemy vision range because they'll most likely just get shot. Has ATB system that ticks in real time, and you can order units to take a turn as soon as their gauge fills up or hold their action indefinitely. More like Battleship if anything, but with more suicide bombers. Pretty fun but with somewhat limited replay value. Has a funky OST.

Oh yeah that's what I meant, not Minesweeper.

The first one bad part of the game for me is how it starts by playing like battleship with fog of war and ends up playing like battleship where you can see everything and have a nuclear arsenal ready.
The first one also has some grinding if you want to play all the content, AlteR fixes a few issues with the gameplay by escalating the arms race even further but the endgame ends up being monotone too but for different reasons although it does have a few good battle you actually have to think about along the way, also basically no grind if you're smart about it.

That's the one.

THE LEGEND OF HEROES TRAILS IN THE SKY TRILOGY

store.steampowered.com/app/251150/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky/

store.steampowered.com/app/251290/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky_SC/

store.steampowered.com/app/436670/The_Legend_of_Heroes_Trails_in_the_Sky_the_3rd/

Might sound a bit dumb, but has there been any attempt to rip and port the English script for the 3rd to the PSP version that wasn't cleared for the west? Just something I've been a bit curious about.

No idea. I'm only just starting chapter two in SC as it is. The anons in the nihon-falcom thread could probably tell you though

Think I've asked before and gotten no answer. I would assume the "implied" answer is to just play the Steam version. Considering that at least both FC and SC PSP saw undub patches ported over, it's made me wonder if there's been enough interest in the western Falcom fanbase to do the alternate (as 3rd PSP wouldn't need to be undubbed with the audio natively Japanese), or if maybe because it's not a "main entry" (being that I've heard it's mostly extras to the main plot) there hasn't been interest.

I suppose you can argue it as obscure, though it exists on GoG already.
They have all Falcom games there

store.steampowered.com/app/771240/YumeCore/

it's… something

eh it's relatively obscure. Trails in the Sky has been gaining some real recognition over the past few years, but it's not a mainstream RPG series by any means like Final Fantasy, SMT, Persona, etc.

eh i suppose there hasn't been. I don't exactly see people pining for it in the first place.

You mother fucker, why did you post that? My eyes are bleeding.

9 and 10. There are several mechanics that word exactly like them and the overall feel of the game is really reminiscent of these two. If you are a little bit experienced with the genre, I recommend starting on hard mode. I did so and had a blast all the way, the game does not play nice in the slightest and really encourages you to use every tool at your disposal (i.e. the eponymous "trap" gimmick, helping you control and earn time against overpowered enemies).
There isn't exactly permadeath, but a dead unit will be unable to be drafted for the next map, which can have severe consequences considering most maps in the game allow you to draft your whole army.
The story and characters are… not the best part of the game let's say. They get the job done, it's cute but that's about it. still better than awakening and fates
There is a path of radiance-like support system as well.

I forgot to respond to this, basically it's Shiren/Mystery Dungeon gameplay with a long sidescrolling, randomly-generated map. I compared it to FTL because there is an important part of resource management and deciding to be greedy or not will have a big impact for the rest of your run. It's also dirt cheap (2$ IIRC?) so I really recommend trying it out and see if that's your thing.

This game sounds great. I'll jus-
I'll play it user. But I can't support Sekai Project. They're pretty damn bad.

More than half of what you posted is western RPGMaker trash.

I get ya user. Consider supporting the circle directly if you like the game at least, they deserve it.

desunoya.sakura.ne.jp/index.html

One of the best fighters I've played with a great variety of unique characters and mechanics combined with a great deal of customization to support many playstyles. The cast of cute girls does push people away though.

I found Nitro+ Blasterz much better. Heart is in the game but she's shit.

Steam has so many games on it that it's very easy for many of them to become obscure.

I think you mean normalfags, user

...

huehuehue

I would add Trouble Witches Origin and Gundemonium.
store.steampowered.com/app/460630/Trouble_Witches_Origin__Episode1_Daughters_of_Amalgam/
store.steampowered.com/app/92200/Gundemonium_Recollection/

Both of these games are horizontal shmup games which share a few mechanics. TWO has you constantly buying power ups from a store to destroy waves of enemies while using your barrier to slow down bullets. Killing the enemy when bullets are on the screen will score you a ton of money. Killing enemies with powers you purchased nets you a ton of points assuming many bullets are on the screen. The catch is that purchasing the same power-up increases the price every time. If you're not careful, this can really screw you over in the final stages where you really need some of the more useful power-ups. Power-ups also have a timer instead of ammo. So waiting to slow down many bullets can actually cause you to get less points if you mismanage your power-up. It's pretty good and worth a pirate. It recently came out with more characters too. I believe there's 9 total.

Gundemonium is pretty great. The stages are full of phases that can change on the fly. If you've ever played God Hand, then it's similar to that. Graze bullets to full your meter faster to use your powerful sub weapons more which kills more enemies which upgrades the difficulty. Bombs lower the difficulty but there are many types of them. Instead of choosing a ship, you choose your powers that you can mix and match to make something to the playstyle you want. Each power also increases/decreases your weight. You need to be careful on doing so well though. Increasing the difficulty for a boss during the fight could case a move that doesn't home in on you to suddenly start aiming toward you with the next volley of fire. It's dirt cheap now.

I'll pirate and see if it's worth a buy. I don't mind supporting doujin devs. I recently got Rock Maiden 3 and can't get past the title screen.

No way man. She has plenty of great tools. The triple homing love balls, piercing laser, heartful kick, and homing that makes it so no one can run away from her and she can easily play aggressive. She can easily put people in the corner and has decent mixup options to boot. If anything, I think Muramasa has some terrible match ups in this game. Especially against Ein who shuts down her web attacks with uzi sprays.

I don't think AH has the best character designs but they're not bad at all. Normalfags will see "moeshit" and walk away. It also doesn't help that the game is pretty damn complex compared to many fighters. Especially modern ones which are simplifying everything.

Kirino a shit.

Kuroneko a shit

So is there any good site for doujin games and other smaller Japanese games?

Ironic weebs please go.

Oriemo isn't that good anyway.

They're all great 1 dimensional cocksleeves

Take that back.

Yes, characters must all be "one dimensional" if they don't have some edgy backstory involving rape or some shit.

Go watch Eromanga sensei you queers

posting best girl

I have watched it. What about it?

...

What the fuck are you trying to say?

both oreimo and eromanga were absolute trash

Why do you hate fun user?

No, only good thing thing about those is the porn that's made

ENEMY REINFORCEMENTS HAVE APPEARED

Pretty good so far. I like how weapons have low durability but recharges every stage. They brought back the shove mechanic too. And now there's a guard command which is really damn helpful.

the platform is such that anything that ends up there stops being obscure by default,it's like claiming to be an underground indie rock band when you're signed with a label like Universal or Warner

Even then, who knows about most of these games unless presented to them? Barely anyone even knows about some of the games in this thread. It doesn't need to be a JP only Comiket game to be obscure.

...

this was the newest PC game I bought on Steam, as the platform has nothing to interest me outside of comiket releases and other releases from circles. Anything with my daughteru Cotton in it I'd like to check out and was happy to have such a positive experience with this game. I quite liked the shop/cash mechanic where you stop firing to absorb money. You're constantly using new powers for tough situations and it's a lot of fun timing those careful dodges and shots to break a chain of enemy fire. It's not very hard but it's worth playing if you want a fun, easy STG.

Thanks Xseed good job. At least they made it easy to put in and its an old game so the contracts are likely FUBAR.

Goddammit Burgers and Muslims. Normal cultures are naked in a hotspring or public bath.

I hate migration.

Fuck off faggot.

Implying the Steam audience can tell the difference. I don't even understand why anyone would buy JPN games or VNs off Steam.

but that's not true at all, did you even look at the developer pages?
I think maybe 1 or 2 of them might've been western at most

...

Well meme'd. You are very good at repeating what you are told.

So how many people know of Miko Gakkou Monogatari Kaede Episode? I have never seen anyone mention it anywhere and it has 5 user reviews.

That may be the case 5 years ago, but these days anyone can put stuff on Steam.

Looks like he was a (1) and done.

Honestly what makes Oriemo good? I've only read the manga but I don't remember myself particularly caring about it. It was very average. Most of the problem they discussed over otakus comes down to "Of course people who watch anime and play video games aren't fucking serial killers you stupid fuck. That's like thinking because an accountant gassed a station, that means everyone who is an accountant must be like them. People knows the news exaggerates shit for views and otakus were just the latest craze so they were to blame. You would have to be a retard to dump a good friend over such petty shit that doesn't even effect how you two converse." And they kind of handwaved the whole "incest" thing by it not being blood related so it's not even a problem if they fucked.

Never seen Eromanga but I heard it was essentially another take at Oriemo with a few differences here and there. So I can't judge it. That aside, Kuroneko and Saori are best girls. Ayese is normalfag trash.

Kirino and Kyousuke are blood related.

The claim was that both are "absolute trash."

It is its own story.

You think Oreimo is a normalfag series? Really?

I thought it was discovered that she was adopted at an early age.

No. It's Ayese who's the normalfag. Not that she's for normalfags. Breaking a good friendship because someone is into eroges and a part of anime otaku culture is retarded. Kirino didn't tell her about that side of her because she thought she would over react. Which she did.

Bump

this is my fate. shoul've worked harder

AH3 is the pinnacle of Anime fighting mechanics at the moment. There's so many options for any given scenario it's pretty mind blowing. The game rewards every element of fighting game play. It's impressive I can think so highly of a game where a character has a 1frame active low command normal that knocks down and can be mashed during blockstrings (4C)

Makes me wonder how the game will change when the balance patch releases along with the new character. And what in the world will the new Parace arcana do? Maybe you get 4 elements but you permanently have punishment style glass cannon damage received modifier.

There is a patch to fix that, for people that don't want the girls to be dumb using towels inside the bath.

I have heard of almost all of them and even own physical copies of some of them. Just because the majority of Holla Forums consists of casuals who have to be spoonfed video games doesn't mean all of us are.

Why do you dislike Valve?
