Well, I have finally come around to emulating xenoblade chronicles 1 The only xeno game I never touched for some unclear reason. I don't think it does the "living on a titan" setting as well as 2 so far, but it could just be the starting area. Premise certainly seems solid.

I'm up to the mines of colony 6, I like it but I definitely didn't expect it to feel so different in design from X and 2. The side content seems to only exist to get enough exp and dosh to progress to the story rather than being a draw in itself.

The Mines are where the story gets real for the first time, the end is great. Don't be afraid to grind a bit first, it can be a wall.

Just now got melia, didn't encounter any significant roadblocks level wise so far, just doing a modicum of exploration and sidequesting. Mechons are people shenanigans are blatantly being set up. One thing though, the other two xenoblades are very good at establishing the need for villains to get a severe ass-kicking, but absolutely awful at actually letting you kick their ass. I'm already getting the sense XC1 set that trend.

As for the villains getting theirs, XB1 does it much better than just giving them rampant cutscene victories like 2 does. It either lets you beat the one you were fighting but drops in like, 6 more, or just kicks your ass.

I just got this game, how do I make some good money early on and how do I use the 4th art thing on each weapon?

There is no easy get rich quick scheme early on as far as I'm aware, mainly because one blade is a cold hard lodsofemone check. You can only equip three arts, the fourth is just one you can swap in.

Salvaging is the best way to get money quick. Until gold cylinders unlock in chapter 4/5 use silver ones and salvage in the main town in Gormott. Get like 10 canisters. Then go to the shopkeeper with the scales and turn in sets of salvage for cash. Your gains won't be super high until you get gold canisters but you will make a profit. Check the higher return salvage sets first and work your way down. Once you get gold canisters making millions is easy. Argentum has salvage sets that go for like 30,000 a pop, so yeah getting money is easy.

Yea I figured salvaging was the way to go but as far as getting canisters goes I only get like 200-300 gold per dive. I'll try selling the items like you said though.

Remember to salvage in different locations. Items sold in stores with a balance icon require parts from titans you're not in.

That's not really true for anywhere but Uraya because it has no salvage spots. Most of the time the scales shops specialize in shops from that Titan.

How do you equip the fourth ability? I go to the WP menu and there doesn't seem to be an option for it.

You can only swap it with one if the others. In the case of Rex, replace the second art with rolling smash. Reduced agro is way more useful than the nothing the other gives you. Anchor shot is useful for healing and double spinning edge is great once you get Mythra and lightspeed flurry.

Is this overdrive shit actually as much of a pain in the ass as it looks? I got a decent looking healer blade called Nim from a rare core and I opened her on Ex and want to put her on Nia. Are these overdrive things a pain in the ass to farm?

Kinda. You get 3 just by playing the game. You can farm as many as you want by drawing a 4 crown blade, raising it to max affinity and unlocking all affinity nodes, then releasing it.
Also, if you just started and managed to keep off any spoilers, just take this advice. Don't bother getting more than 3 rares on Rex

How exactly does bonding work, do I have a chance to get a rare from a common core crystal? How RNG is this shit?

Very RNG. I got most of my rares from commons because I used the bonding to save. However, 101 hours into the game I don't have a single goddamn four crown.

For the most part throughouth the main quest commons will give you enough rares. I'd suggest you keep ALL your rare cores until say chapter 8 or so, only using common cores. As you draw rare blades they are removed from the pool, and less rares means less chances to draw one.

If you want to go completionist we all do then yes. Not too RNG to disrupt most my main playthrough though. I did had to deal with some shit like characters other than Nia having healing blades until I had overdrives to undo those, but it evens out

Yes. It's pretty high though, and you can increase it by raising the level of your mercenary group.

Yes, it's determined by your merc level. If you didn't reach that yet, it's a pretty vital side activity which pretty much serves to justify having common blades.

One last question for now. Is there a way to get your party to shut the duck up during combat, because Jesus Christ. Why is this still a thing 3 games in?

Well, I never thought it was much of an annoyance and I hated that in Dragon's Dogma but there's a "battle narration volume" setting in the options, I assume it's for that.

I was actually devastated when best girl sacrificed herself to save everyone, even more so when the credits rolled and showed all of the moments with her and Rex. It didn't help that everyone was like "lol Rex quit being a bitch" while he slowly had his heart completely torn out. All I could think at the very end was "oh thank christ they aren't going to ruin this for me".

I just hit chapter 9. Dem feels, didn't expect to sympathise with either of those two as much as I did. How many more chapters are there to go? I know it doesn't matter since the game shits you out just before the final bossfight at the end, but I still want to beat it with all the rare blades on hand because I'm an idiot like that.

Dont bother with that, the time ot takes to grind all the blades will make you ridiculously overleveled for the final boss. Instead I decided to complete the while affinity chart of my main blades and do all the blade quests for the rares I had at the time, and the result is that I was a bit above what I think I should have. Final fight still took me down once, but wasn't too challenging in the end.

Xenoblade antagonists don't deserve to be challenging.

I don't get most of you guys praising the story of Xenoblade2.
The story felt like 80% filler until like the last couple of chapters. Almost nothing was going on, or at least felt like it made any impact, with you just traversing from point A to point B basically.
Some events I didn't even get the meaning of—like the priestess from Indol dying. I didn't even know who the hell that just was, was I suposed to feel some sort of emotional impact? It just left me very confused.
Xenoblade1, on the other hand, kept me engaged almost from the get-go and by the time Mechon invade Colony 6 you're already knee-deep in the story. The cinematography was also much, much better, with most cutscenes being exceptionally dynamic, while Xenoblade2 was just talking heads most of the time, and even the rare action scenes didn't leave that much of an impact.

Oh I know, but I spent so much time running around for confusion ivy for That Damned Quest I ended up killing so many mobs I was already about early/mid twenties by the time I hit Uraya. I'm already in the mid 70's now, and Nia and Xeke are closer to 80 than 75. Which reminds me, Nia was a weird one.

Tbh I think the main characters made it for me (not the villains - all of whom were pretty boring). So the story being pretty good, was good enough for me, as I was mostly invested in the characters and their relationships: which is a good thing given how melodrama-centric this game is (even for a jrpg). I've finished it now, and feel there's a xenoblade shaped hole in my life - thus I've just downloaded the first one, and am hoping for good things from that.

I see it more as a supplement to Xenoblade, since the close ties at the end, also everything revealed about the creation of the world and the gnostic mythology parallels they use in the series

The story is great. As in, if you lay down the plot and consider the possible interpretations of what some things mean, it's a pretty good story.
The storytelling, however, is average at best. Rex himself is a pretty poor character.

Rex's fundemental problem is, he's your Designated Shounen Protagonist.

Hell, the whole of chapter 6 I still don't really 'get'. So we need to go X to unlock the aegis' true power, we get there, he goes "Well, I get what I need to do now" which… doesn't seem to be anything different, except that this time Pyra/Mythra believe what he says this time.
Heck, Pyra and Mythra have a bit more character development and they're the 'Standard Designated Love Interest Model 1 and 2'. I think it's why I really like Nia and Zeke; Nia gets some development that actually changes how she acts later on, and Zeke doesn't really change, but realizing this bumbling tool is actually very, very politically astute and generally shrewd and smart was great. He's never really changed but he's complicated enough to get away with it.

Just remember that every time is Reyn time.

Rex is as bland as they come. No aspirations other that I wanna go to elisium with my waifu, no character development as you pointed out nothing actually changed after finding the third aegis sword, and no real backstory, I actually thought they would come up with something interesting about his parents, considering that the crucible and the aegis prision were designed to be opened by lefterians only and since he actually washed ashore with his parents, he maybe wouldn't qualify, so I was actually expecting there would be some blood bond between him and Adam, to tick the last box of the standard hero tropes list
Zeke could easily be the protagonist. He has more backstory and personality to expand on. The only problem is that for that story to work most of his past with Pandoria would have to change, and they make a very nice pair on their own as they are.

I completely disagree. I find rex a far more interesting character than either shulk or elma. I like shulk, and I think he is a decent character, but shulk's character is far more "adaptive" than "growth oriented". Like, shulk doesn't really mature that much, considering he is already mature, and most of his "character growth" is due to changes in circumstance rather than failure. (Spoilers because if vague plot references to xenoblade 1 and 2)

Rex spends a large portion of the game fucking up hard, and the people he cares about suffer for it. It's only in this realization that he grows as a character. In contrast, shulk spends most of the game kicking the shit out if everything, and his failures are related to trying to do everything on his own. Rex is a far more compelling character because he is constantly pushed to his physical and psychological limit, and even broken a few times, and he still manages to come back from it all. Even at shulk's darkest hour, he basically is the "leader everyone looks up to".

Shulk has the brains, the brawn, and the know how to handle almost everything his game throws at him. Even when he loses almost everything he bounces back almost immediately, and rallies his comrades to fight when everything is lost.

Rex is basically constantly propped up by his allies in both battle and wisdom. He has the charisma to get people to follow him, but his lack of real experience constantly ends up screwing people more than helping, and his major character growths all happen because when faced with something he fucked up and it IS all his fault, he needs to step back, adjust, and try again.

Dughall is corrupt but compared to other baddies does not do a single thing wrong besides standing behind his blade so he doesn't die and taking Bana's money, and the party kills him and nobody in the main story even questions it because he spoke mean. It even turns out he was actually competent so you really hurt Gormott by killing him. Meanwhile in the rest of the story, they try to spare faggots like Jim, Malos the planet destroyer and their friends, such as mr edgy glasses who wants to torture lolis, girl who exists but does nothing and a fag who is actually straight. What the fuck

Why doesn't she even speak and insist he gets arrested when it's her own homeland being threatened? It gets worse.

They didn't kill Dughall. They "defeated" him, just like every JRPG party does now a days.

He is defeated, but where is he afterwards? If he was alive, he'd still be governing stuff. Talking around the town makes it clear no soldier died, yes, but I think Dughall's gone. If the party didn't kill him, why do they feel bad afterwards when the town has no one to govern it and goes to shit? If he got demoted for being defeated, it'd be the fault of bureaucracy for removing him without a replacement, and it'd make little sense considering Morag failed as well. That really was the worst blade quest except for Ursula's.

Azami isn't so much an ally as she is a creepy stalker forcing her way into the party. The only thing she gives a shadow of a shit about is impressing her driver, so it makes sense for her to hold out on smashing the machine until the last dramatic moment.

The merc missions were a waste of potential and the clunky interface assured that they would be an annoyance rather than something fun.

Ursula's quest would be at least more tolerable to me if mercs had a "send same party" or "redo mission" button

I used to do this with almost every game i played. I did it with XB 1 i started it back up almost 2 years later. I still have a dozen or so games i still need to beat, Tales of the Abyss being one of the ones i want to get back to the most. I recognized that i did this so i don't do it for new releases any more but i have still done it a few times with anime i don't want to see end.

That entire chapter, even if it had fuck all gameplay, was actually amazing.

Stack up (and shatter) enough orbs on an enemy you fill that bar in the top left. Do it and you get a Persona-style-pilein where everyone lays into the enemy, then whichever character was next when it was filled gets a super-special attack with their blade. I've only done it a few times, and always with Morag and Bridgett.

Why does the RNG hate me?

A couple tips that I only started using late-late-game, so you might be missing those too:
Those really saved me, sadly I only started applying them on my last 3 rares. Untill then I was only opening rare and legendary cores if I could invest 5 boosters on them, which made the whole process very slow. Also, releasing common blades from the element you are aiming for had me drawing them over and over like a retard. Took me forever to realize the very simple principle of keeping them so I would stop drawing them as repeats.

i got kosmos last, user, it looks like getting a light blade is way more difficult, because fuck you.

I mean, I think Rex really kind of hits his "now he is a big boy" moment like at the last boss fight and right after it.

He is steadily improving over the game, but for me, his "you're the man now, dog" moment is like basically near the end of the game.

You'll be able to send Pyra and other driver-specific blades into merc missions. This hints to me that even if you get to keep your blades, they'll probably revert to 0 trust fuck Ursula, and also that We might be able to try more builds on Rex.
That those blades might be absent will probably be ignored in cutscenes, I suppose.
But yeah, a harder difficulty would be neat, and almost asured since that is kind of stable in games with NG+ that let you keep some of your progress

That or they want to make it easier to complete their trees by having it automatically happen on Merc missions.

I started the game 3 days ago and I'm at the 3 chapter going against malos and I'm stuck also I only have two other rare blades and they're tanks the lightening girl and ice guy. Also how the hell do you play that mini game for poppi? Everytime I play it I die because of the shitty controls for moving the weapon are synomamous with the movement of the character. Also any tips for someone new to the genre?

There is no point in playing normal other than bragging about it like some sort of autist. The only thing different between the two difficulties is you don't take damage from touching walls on easy, thats it.
