Aliens versus predator

Just played this game and I am slightly disappointed, its really short and most of it was marine. I really liked being an alien but that was super short. Predator was fun as well but that was also pretty short.
I get that a lot of people want to be a marine shooting aliens but don't neglect the aliens man.

I really liked how the Alien crosshair always points in the direction of the ground, it was a great way to orientate yourself. Wallwalking is an awesome mechanic but can get a bit confusing at times.

Only way to play it is really on Nightmare difficulty.

The multiplayer was really fun though

All AVP games are a product of their time.

Fast-paced and frenetic, plays like an arena shooter. Came out during the time of Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Duke Nukem, etc.

Narrative-driven, focused on a story, very scripted. Came out during the early 00s when developers were experimenting with more plot in their games.

Came out during the "generic FPS" dark ages aka the dudebro CoD era. Consolized, QTE events and lackluster levels.

Despite all of that, each AVP game still nails the atmosphere of the movies perfectly. AVP99 is scary and suspenseful because you're alone. AVP2 is scary because of scripted events and good story telling. nu-AVP feels kind of depressing, it has that Alien 3 vibe.

Because everyone knows the best followup to an atmospheric horror/scifi movie is a shitty action movie that caters to the lowest common denominator.

if you're gonna make a tier list don't forget the arcade game by capcom. its top tier man.

Predators sounds like some pop rock band.

Hello Holla Forums

I really wish they'd stop using the same green filter for all their boxart it's all starting to look so samey I actually thought you were talking about the RTS for a moment before entering the thread.

why is that alien so hot

there is an alien versus predator RTS?

Yes, it was called AVP extinction. It was pretty fun actually. Surprised it wasn't mentioned on

Extinction was fucking great, but once you got medics and the smartgunners with you it was basically easymode at that point.

Console only.

Did PissyB wet himself during the AvP2 gamenight?

Yeah, same goes for the aliens.
The only thing that was hard to play as was predators, because their small unit amount basically required you to use guerilla tactics and think strategically, rather than swarm everything like the aliens or marines.

...

looks like im not the only one thta played this game

i thought the overpowered unit for the marines was the upgraded comm tech, they can launch orbital strikes and snipe evrything that pops on their radar,i got stuck at the 3rd level when i was young because i didn't use medics at all

That .webm was great, man. Truly great.

because you are a xenophile.

The gameplay almost seemed made with multiplayer exclusively in mind but then they were told to add a singleplayer campaign. I put like 60 hours into the multiplayer the month it came out, then for some reason it seemed the population dropped off the face of the Earth.

I enjoyed the ExoSuit unit upgraded, just seeing everything be made into swiss cheese by absurd amounts of bullets was very satisfying.I just wish they made a specific death just for that one instance.

Updated.

Didn't include Extinction and Concrete Jungle because those are console exclusives and I never played them. The AVP beat 'em up is an Arcade game.

LOL

got any toastas?

I honestly never played a AvP game in my life. Which ones are worth buying/torrenting?

The original AvP from 1999 by Rebellion software was good in singleplayer and multiplayer too.
The singleplayer was tense and difficult, before they patched it for the n00bs, there was no saving, which meant dying caused you to restart the level from the beginning, and the levels were long, and dark and death was nearly instant.
The aliens were lightning fast, the predator was very powerful, the human was a meatstick with some good weaponary - but only if you can hold your nerve and have fast enough reactions to use them.
All other AvP games afterwards are 'balanced' and have almost no feeling to them.
The original AvP represents the three species, their strengths and weaknesses in the most true way.
Hearing a facehugger but not seeing it caused most to panic and start shooting around the shoot in despair and terror.
I recommend playing it unpatched, without any saving.
If you can make it through all 3 difficulty levels, you will feel a sense of accomplishment.

Where's the porn?

This guy is good, he's clearly played a lot, but even he panics when things don't go right.

thanks user

That's about the one thing I have no problem with, sometimes I needed to do something and I didn't want to leave the game running in pause.

If you download the patch you can save.
It removes some of the tension though.

I'm getting too old and too busy with life to tolerate that type of level design anymore.

Yeah I'll take AVP2. The MP demo was funny as fuck though because Marine was far and away the most overpowered. Is that a space monster the size of Bigfoot with just as much strength? Fuck that, Imma swing my rifle butt and shoot you in the face while you scramble on the ground like the pathetic bug you are!

I never understood this. People can make decisions. Why not leave the no save challenges for people who actually want to perform them? Or are you just that undisciplined?

...

The opposite way around.
There was no save during levels, because the game was designed to have a tense atmosphere, in the level design, the game mechanics, music and that you can't just save/reload constantly.
This added value to your life in the game, it is like 'hardcore' mode in other games.

Because so many people were pussies complaining, they patched in saving some months afterwards.

When humans got railguns no xeno was safe.

So add saves, put a disclaimer at the start of the game and let the casuals be casuals. It's a better business strategy and you never know when life is going to fuck you and you need to save your game. I'm not opposed to the philosophy and in fact I try to play Doom levels without saving, but saving is a pretty critical feature.

...

There is allot you could criticize since some things haven't aged too well, but Predator Concrete Jungle is still one of my favorite games.

...

Olde is the best AVP2000 player.

He has over 1000 hours on it and has created tons videos/screenshots/guides for it.

I wish more games did this, where you had a limited amount of saves you could do per mission.

I wish Monolith or Rebellion had put this much effort into creating a fun game for the Marines or Aliens.

The textures, lightning and soundtrack on this game is amazing for its time. And I love the fact that the focused more on making it a fun video game rather than an atmospheric shooter/a cinematic experience wannabe.

Because AVP 1 and 2 already provide those Marine and Alien experiences, and Predator experience too.

I think most people realized that the game was broken as fuck designwise. Predators were overpowered by far and aliens could stunlock you with their tail when they were on a wall. I think if they had made some small changes, like making the disk not a 1 hit kill weapon on bodyshots and adding a longer cooldown to the alien tail swipe then maybe people would've stuck around with it. And also fixed the FUCKING PRESS E TO WIN COMBAT.
The only game mode I consistently had fun with was infestation. Nothing like a good old xenomorphs versus marines match.

How does it feel knowing that you failed at something as simple as bumping a thread on a singaporean weaving board?

I can't remember what patch it was but they fixed that pressing "E" was more of gamble, i.e. you had to get them down to a certain health or what would happen is that they'd throw YOU back and stunlock you. I remember doing that to a Predator as a Marine which was absolutely hilarious. You could also block it easily from the front using a well timed melee which again would stunlock the opponent.
But by then the game had died.

BLOOD FOR DA BLOOD GAWD!

Okay now graphics wise concrete jungle isn't what I'd call amazing. It's not Deus Ex tier where nobody even pretends the game's graphics looks good but I certainly wouldn't go that far as to say it's the best of it's time since it looks like it belongs on a console one gen ealier then it released.

So,would anybody be intersting in a xenomorph game that had lewds?

Its a ps2 game and it looks really good.

Players often complain about games and force developers into making difficult parts easier. The problem with this is that it removes tension from the game. When you remove tension, you cut off one of the most effective sources of immersion, fear.

Why don't we just give players the ability to skip scenes/parts of a game so they stop struggling 50x times to make that jump? They have a point when you get stuck like a retard at one part doing a puzzle and cannot be arsed wasting 3 hours trying to perfect it.

Confirmed for not minimum being a teenager when the PS2 and 360 were still hot. The predator looks great and the main characters also look good, but everything else except a choice set of areas looks like a PS1 game without pixelation. Looking at those webms I strongly suspect that whoever made them is using an emulator and deliberately upgrading the graphics through Modding. because there is no fucking way the shadows, lighting, or environment textures looked like that throughout the whole game.

There's something really appealing about crude little erotic doodles.
Especially so when they're aliums

You are just going to post lewds regardless aren't you?

Anyone ever played this? Spoiler its not good but still interesting

I want to get violently raped by a Xenomorph.

Naw,i'd get banned for rule 3 because i have a shitload of em

Disgusting I know who you are

The fact that you'd get banned for posting xenos in the xeno thread disgusts me. Should have posted them on the reflections bread for the COD:UO gamenight.
