Hey comrades, I'm thinking about starting a Democratic Socialist facebook group for my city...

Hey comrades, I'm thinking about starting a Democratic Socialist facebook group for my city. There's a giant drug problem in our city, along with housing issues, homelessness, and terrible traffic. There's a lot of issues to be discussed and I think it'll be crazy useful in spreading socialist ideas to be fixing them.

I'm going to try to organize activities such as Food Not Bombs, and maybe try to hand out flyers that casually explains socialism and the positive side of it.

What are your thoughts / ideas comrades? Should more leftypol users be doing this?

Thank god Holla Forums exists and has given me so many pictures that help explain socialist ideas, I hope I can help the cause comrades.

I dislike this picture

...

I mean, I'm not going to specifically use this picture, I'd definitely edit it if I did. What do you think of making left-ist groups for a city though? Is it decent activism?

better than posting memes on a message board where only leftists will see them

Please tell me you're joking.

If there already are local socialist groups then you should consider joining them

If none exist in your town then do for it, but if you want to build anything serious it will take a lot of hard work and a long, demoralising time

I'm pretty sure none exist around here, I just want to get something started. But I wish someone had some actual advice instead of making fun of a picture I posted

lmao

...

...

whew

God damn Holla Forums is shit, ask about trying to organize and niggas have nothing to contribute

Deleting your facebook is more useful than anything you proposed.

I don't really know comrade…I think you should draw attention to various problems within your city and give it a leftist POV on the situation (on fb or otherwise). I don't know if the DSA are socdems at most or what, but I think you should stay local to allow people to know that you are addressing their problems. Give support to local unions, homeless relief, that sort of thing.

Point out all of the things the current administration is doing wrong.

Thanks comrade, that's the plan. I'm not trying to start a big movement or anything, just trying to get the demsoc perspective out there. Even if the page becomes infested with socdems or left-leaning liberals, w/e, organizing will never be a bad thing. And besides, they will have a much higher chance of hopping on the socialism train once they are surrounded by more.

Yeah because not organizing is better than organizing am i rite

Why not just transcribe all your activities to the feds and Zuckerberg then?

nigga is doing shit well within the legal framework. It's fine.

Ever heard of personal autonomy?

How the fuck is a socialist fb group going to solve that

is a funnie picture, she gon burn her hand!

Dude what are you on?

pushing for better public transport shit nigga i dunno

No and I think it's a bit of a waste of time.

I mean, it depends. If you're talking about joining the DSA and helping create a chapter, sure go ahead.

If you mean you're going to start your own Social-Democratic shit there, I think it's a waste of time. Going directly to the people wherever you can is important, but the problem with picking up a fringe cause (Socialism) and moving directly to practical and local politics is that you're not going have the institutional basis or the funding to do shit. Most people who start things like that usually just end up serving as occasional chapters of bigger movements like BLM and organizing protests and start elsewhere like occupy.

Before we can start talking about problems of practical politics, we need a central organization that can help translate those into reality. Before we make that, we need a more educated working class, with a substantial amount of people with the right theory and the right grasp of history, politics, economics, etc. So if that "do something" voice is telling you to do something, start study groups.

But if you mean joining the DSA, I say it's a good idea. You'll probably end up disappointed, but when it comes to organizing there's no substitute for experience.

Yes, it's mostly a liberal meme that places individual agency above all structural problems in society and the neglect the latter's role in shaping the former

Saying drug problem is not a problem because they're within their rights is like saying poverty is not a problem because they can study and work harder if they want.

Hey user, do you actually think democratic socialists are brave enough to do illegal shit?

Yeah my city has a giant heroin epidemic right now. the deaths the past few months have been terrible. It's sad man, we're seeing crazy amounts of drunk driving, heroin deaths, and high schoolers dying from mixing drugs.
Is this supposed to be an argument? Nigga we have over 20+ million people currently addicted to drugs in the USA. 480,000+ deaths per year from tobacco, and 68% of Americans are overweight or obese. People are products of their environment, user. Capitalism is fucking trash

idk maybe replace "business" with "workplace" but the picture isn't that bullshit. This guy is also clearly retarded because he thinks "leadership" is a bad thing.

Marxism.

I'm not even trying to do anything serious here. I'm just gonna make a facebook group for my city and try to do city activism. Like food not bombs and gatherings and stuff. Not trying to create any label or icon

And if I ever do try to start something serious, I'll look into starting a chapter with DSA. Thanks user

Thats a great idea.

More of us should be doing things like this, can we have a follow up user?
