Metal gear solid

Just played through 1 - 4 for the first time. Pretty blown away by the level of detail and craftsmanship that goes into these games. Love the humour.

3>2>1>4

I have to agree with you on that. I'm assuming you haven't played any of the other ones? The Metal Gear games for the MSX are also pretty good if you like older games, but I can't recommend the NES games. The thing I love best about the series is how connected it feels, yet how individual each game is. You could almost walk blindly into any of them, and it means you only miss out on how things come together, especially 2 and 4. There's always little glimpses about the other games, and it gives a great illusion to an entire world of espionage.

I know many people hate Peace Walker, but I honestly enjoyed it. It was a blast sprinting through many of the levels half naked, armed with nothing more than a banana and a love box. I loved watching MSF form from a tiny shed into a technologically advanced organization under your control. I found it great you started with shitty rations eventually that became five star meals in a pouch that could be seared to perfection while fighting dinosaurs in a supposedly stealth based game. Customizing my own metal gear was also pretty sweet, and the shear amount of weapons from humble pistols to assault rifles to various vehicles to crazy weapons whose only goal is to capture more people was awesome. I do have complaints about the game, like how multiplayer many of the levels were focused, meaning many of the boss battles were pretty difficult with one person that doesn't have the greatest equipment, but they need to beat the boss to get better equipment, and just how long it takes to get good equipment, such as having a proper R&D level, and how long it takes to research an item. Many of the weapons were useless if you don't kill anyone, meaning you're stuck with a shitty shotgun, MK22, Mosin Nagant, and a select few items for not killing anyone. To upgrade those weapons to their fullest usually meant spending absurd amounts of time grinding away for decent individuals for development. Aiming while moving on the PSP is also a bitch, and the installation at the beginning of the game was also a bitch. I didn't realize just how long I would ramble on about a game I haven't played in some time.

...

Are you planning to expand the experience or will take a break?

4 wasn't very good.

MGS V is a bad game, pirate it to "finish" the story but off the top of my head guns were fake frankemodels, Ocelot has no catch to his character, you can't kill kids, missions feel like GTA, there isn't any mujaheddin or any troops fighting each other like the war mechanic in MGS 4 where you could side with groups and they won't shoot you, missions are akin to GTA where you're doing them for random people. It's the CoD of the series basically and Ground Zeroes for what it was was a better game.

4's story was convoluted and cutscenes literally took up half the game with the departure of Tomokazu but the gameplay, multiplayer, and guns were the best of the series, all it needed was more elaborate levels.

KYS

Never played peace walker either but this makes me want to check it out. Good write up on the games. They're definitely very consistent.

Play Metal Gear Rising. I don't know if it's considered canon or not but it's as perfect a sidegame as it gets.

i like you because you know MGS V is a bad MGS game and not a great game by itself even

Is anyone curious about MGS SurVive? people are still really angry at Konami and not willing to give the game a fair look

What stealth games does Holla Forums enjoy? if you play stealth games at all wwww

You ask that question like stealth is a popular genre. Styx and Mark of the Ninja are good, Styx 2 has better gameplay but shittier story and is 40 dollars.

I'm sure as hell not after Konami's treatment of its IP's, fuck them.

peace walker wasn't bad, I kinda wish I had someone to play the coop missions with tho. 4 people coop sounds like a blast

fake and gay

It looks like a DLC to MGSV. Looks boring.

It's such a bummer that TPP could've actually been a great game if it wasn't so obviously unfinished. What's worse, for nostalgia's sake I've played and beat Snake Eater last week and it's amazing how much better the game is in every way (besides the outdated controls, but even then you get used to them in under half an hour) and how much more you get out of the 7-10 hours you spend on a standard playthrough of it compared to all the 100+ hours crap you have to do in TPP.

My biggest complaint with Portable Ops and Peace Walker, besides the fact that it controls like a motherfucker since it's on PSP, is that some parts of the game are purposefully made more difficult just so you're forced to play with your buddies, which wouldn't be so bad if all the people I knew who had a PSP and the MGS games weren't DSP-tier at them.

Snake Eater has the best gameplay, but 1 is still my favorite. V is dogshit, but Kojima fans eat it the fuck up for some dumb reason. I might actually buy Survive to help ensure the bastardization of a series by a beloved hack continues.

Good Lord, I'm a fucking retard that should invest in proof reading my ramblings! I can only peace together my thoughts in awkward, choppy sentences. How the fuck can I pretend to know what I'm talking about when every third word is in some random order. I apologize.

That really is my biggest complaint too. I was pretty much all alone since I didn't know anyone who also had a PSP or MGS. Many of the boss battles became tedious and long simply because I would resort to slow tactics to even survive the ordeals. It didn't help that I'm a faggot that refuses to kill people in a MGS game.

I hear ya, playing alone was a complete bitch and if you go non-lethal in that game it's a complete pain in the ass. Even when I had my friends backing me up it was basically like I was playing alone. To put into perspective how bad they are, I had to beat The End for all 3 of them because they couldn't go past him, what's more I did it with just the Mk22. They all looked in awe as I beat him in 10 minutes while they were stuck on him for days and they didn't want to take the coward's way out and wait until he kicks the bucket naturally. The End is such a pushover of a boss it's not even funny.
Though I will admit, I was trained in counter sniping during military service which is compulsory in my country, but it didn't really help THAT much since The End won't even change positions until you're either right on his ass and he spots you or you shoot him with anything, so it's piss easy to sneak up on him, hold him up, shoot him with the Mk22 3 times, play catch with him, rinse and repeat until his stamina runs out. Father of sniping my ass.

Like pottery

That's pretty sad. The End really is a simple fight, where all you have to do is spot him once, get close and attack, then follow him until he plants his fat ass down again. He's usually the one I experiment with the most, using the gadgets that seem pointless for most of the game, like the sleep cigarettes. They're pretty effective on him. It's also uncomfortably fun just to kick the old man around until he gives you his shitty gun.

i didn't say i was interested in survive, but as a lover of the MG/MGS series excluding V and most of MGS 4, i have been following news of Survive. What ruined MGS V was the bad story, the unifinished-ness of a lot of things and the repetitve-ness of uninspire missions and the foundations of good gameplay placed upon a barren and boring "open world" level design

A bit. Mostly because it's being made by the devs who kojima didn't take, who also helped make all the mgs games, they just aren't the face of the game like kojima, or its plot like fukushima.

but mgs v was fun tho

mgsv had topnotch gameplay, but Holla Forums becomes a muh storyfag when it suits them. It's hypocrisy but what can you do?

Is this negro for real?

yes, the toolsets and movement options are great, but since the level design is nonexistant it ruins all the potential. MGSV made me realize just how important the level design was to mgs1-3 and how much it helped make them such great games. It's also what assisted the failings of MGS4. MGS4 had great gameplay options as well but nowhere to flex them, especially once you hit act 3 onward and you are either railroaded into the objective or just have nothing fun to sneak around, such as shadow moses behind entirely inhabited by dwarf geckos and outer-haven just being a straight line to the boss rush

I absolutely hated MGSV and I've never cared about the story of Metal Gear. The movement feels very slightly better than in MGS4 and the controls are very responsive, but that's all I can think of that I liked. I really don't see what differentiates it from any other run of the mill open world game.

Only for a few hours. Then it gets repetitive quickly once you realize every base and every outpost is identical and most missions are the same shit over and over again.

the only acceptable order

I disagree. I have over 1k hours in mgsv, and It's barely from online things like the base invasions. The gameplay is great, and hopefully survive will be a good game.

Nigger you fucking what. I got MGS V for free with a graphics card and have a few hundred hours in it only because it’s one of the things I do to keep my mind off suicide. It’s a neurological deadening agent, no pun intended. There’s nothing to it. It’s not fucking DONE. The worlds are empty and dead. Even mods can’t fix it because FOX can’t render more than 25 NPCs at once, nor can it even add NPC allies for your character or so much as a third faction running around to give the world life.
It’s times like this that make me wonder if I’m not some sort of exception, because if the rest of the fucking world can put up with all the bullshit and kikery it sees (or ignores?) on a daily basis, why aren’t people killing themselves en masse?

gaylord

At least you have decent taste in vidya if you've played it a few hundred hours.
I've rendered over 50 no problem, that was a lie propagated by mgsv apologists.
Infinite heaven is getting close
Suicide is never the option user. If you die, the shit taste faggots who play overwatch will overwhelm us, we need your bitching ass here.

Wow,rude.

Ayyy, I always went in with a medic box because of the little siren on the top, but this was basically how my peace walker playthrough went past the endgame.

MGS V's gameplay felt like any other generic third-person shooter minus how wide the spread was after prolonged fire, level design was non-existent for at least 90% of the two maps combined being an Ubisoft map than a stealth playground. I will admit that whenever there was level design the game was fun as fuck, the game worlds should've just been the double the size of Camp Omega or something.

Also MGO 3 was also a piece of shit nowhere near as fun as 2 with less modes and maps and it's not worth discussing.

I agree that mgo3 was a disappointment. Which is why i'm hoping survives online component will be fun. I still miss mgo2.

Ok what the hell are you doing in this half-empty game for a thousand hours?

Just lots of missions, add in model changes, roaming in the free mode, toying with infinite heaven and doing a bunch of side ops. Playing with the enemy A.I, and trying out different gun combinations. I was actually surprised how many hours I managed to accrue by the end.

As long as you don't look absolutely everything you can do up before playing the game, going in as a blank slate is pretty fun; the game allows you to stretch your legs as long as you're willing to do so. You CAN just go through every mission the same way, but no game is really fun without putting in the effort to have fun, and if it is it's probably just a base level of fun that you get from eating candy or drinking a beer; your body tells you you're enjoying it, but you're not getting anything meaningful out of it, while with something like DMC 3 or 4, the amount of combo porn to be had is ridiculous to the degree that you can have that surface level fun and then dig deeper to get even more enjoyment out of it to do new things in radical and interesting ways.

This was the same problem people were having with GZ; people said the base game could be run through in 20 minutes, and then it led to an expanded idea that speedrunners are actually shit tier and just take away from the total experience of a game. We're looping back now and some how lost that realization that if you're just rushing through to beat it it's not going to be any fun. You can do the same missions to get them perfect, and that alone will take hundreds of hours, and with all of the side missions and alternate ways you can do everything, you have a great deal of variety that allows for hundred upon hundreds of hours of gameplay. On top of that, going through the first time is taking a while because I especially love going back to perfect missions and get all the lore I can from specific areas before moving on, because Koji always knows how to sprinkle story in my face in a way that even though I know the ending the journey is a wonderful experience. I'm cynical as fuck when it comes to games, and I have no hope for any future games being any good or any more than old concepts being painted over with a new skin, but I was hopeful for MGS V and it delivered a half-finished copy that is still better than most modern "finished" games today. Kojima might not know how to write something that isn't batshit crazy, but as a director and with capcom forcing the production's nose into the mud, he still managed to piece together a game that is on par with some of the classics.

Too true. One of the things that surprised me is when I shot a silenced tranq at an enemy but missed, he actually turned to look at me because the bushes I shot through rustled by the tranq bullet and alerted him to my location.

you can still play it you know

Yeah, but i'm too lazy to reset up my p3s and reformat and go through all the steps. And there's the lagging feeling that it's already dead because I waited too long to do it.

As metal gear games
3>=1>4>=2>>5
3 was almost perfect(the sorrow aside, the boss' retard kids were kind of unbalanced as bosses, being either unfun hard or unfun easy, depending on what you did), snake being a fucking badass motivated me to get back into exercising, I even listen to snake eater, way to fall and the main theme while exercising sometimes, 1 was really fucking cool and had crazy mechanics for the time.
2's story was pretty good, but the bosses were pretty weak, fuck vamp and I didn't like the gameplay much.
4 went full story, but the little gameplay in between was fine. I didn't like how they focused too much on the TPS part, giving you less visibility of the surroundings and better aiming with guns. The whole Shadow Moses part was some really fun shit, and the ending, from where you almost die in that corridor, to the fight with ocelot, was tight as fuck. I liked the other bosses as well, the aesthetic and gameplay Was something I enjoyed, thought I might be a bit biased because of my boner. Also, frog suits.
5 was a decent sandbox game. It's fun to play a bit, the multiplayer is kind of fun with friends. Though it's not good in any way as a metal gear game and the could've been leaves a bad after taste when you remember it during playthrough.
I really need to play PW and the MSX games. Quiet is cute though.
Otakon did nothing wrong, I'm glad at least Olga's daughter stayed alive, he suffered enough.

My personal listing is 3>1=2>4>>>5
I like some of the things 5 tries to do, but the game feels so rushed and unfinished. Especially that fucking abrupt ending, it's like a third of the game is missing.

I like the Thief duology a lot owo

I'm in the dsame boat.

MGS3 = MGS2 > MGS1 > MG2 > MGS4 > PW > MG1 > GZ > PO > (shit gap) > V

1>2>3>4>5

2=1>3>PW>4>5

3 is literally babby's first MGS and 5 isnt even in the same vein as the others. 1 & 2 are interchangable and anyone who disagrees should go kill themselves.
if you buy this you should have your hands chopped off, you are the cancer killing the industry

Doesn't matter how many user call you a fag, pal. You will be always right on one thing… MGSV made to much scars to enjoy the game good parts… But damn, it could be perfect! It could be! It had the chance!

Fuck them all! Fuck them to hell!

MGS1>MGS3>Ghost Babel>MGS2>MG2>MG1>PO>MGS4>PW>MGS5
my opinions>your opinions

2>=1>3>4>pw>5
Anything past 2 is non canon go fuck yourself. Writing in 3 makes me want to kill myself. The Boss is a mary sue.

Don't you mean Ghost Pabel?

4 was the peak of MGS gameplay, there just wasn't enough of it.

T H I S

Come on, that's a shitty AI and you're roleplaying.

I guess the only way to have fun in this game is to mod it.
The rating/leaderboard thing was one of the worst ideas Kojimbo has ever had. You can't do whatever you want in the normal game or you'll lose your rank.

Reminder to give credit where credit is due for why MGS1-3 had engrossing stories and that Kojima's success came from the people who worked around him.

Kill yourself.

Notice how he doesnt have any roles written for mgs3. That was the beginning of his work being wasted for stupid shit murata and kojima wanted to push.

What ever happened to Tomokazu Fukushima? I really want to know

My guess is he must've been a contracted worker for Konami, and after MGS3 and Acid, his contract was up.

you wont probably know what happens to people who disappear in Konami

This. MGS4 would probably be my favourite game ever if the whole thing was like acts 1, 2 and the part on the deck of Outer Haven in act 5.

He got a job at Sony.

I enjoyed GZ more than PP tbqh

Honestly the best one is the remake that they did for the Gamecube of the first Solid game. Also, if you're playing them in English, you're not really playing the game.

I've been telling people for a long time that Kojima just throws his name on shit and people disregard that it's actually the people around him that are making the great games. You can see what Kojima is like in really shitty games like Snatcher and Policenauts.

MGSV is by far the best game in the series from a gameplay perspective. When I was introduced to Infinifactory and other games from Zachtronics, which tend to gauge your performance for a certain play style, I then understood what I truly was looking for in a video game: creativity and ingenuity.
In other words, each problem should have multiple possible solutions, and it's up to the player to figure them out and optimize them. That's where the real engagement comes from, which is also an unique aspect of this medium.

People casually throw around the complaint about 'hand holding' in games, but that seems like an half-assed criticism when so many fail to realize the potential for replay value that comes from self-imposed challenges. If that wasn't the case, no one would ever bother with speedruns, no damage runs, "no dodge", "character in level 1", ghosting, or "I beat X game with only my erect penis and a Guitar Hero controller", etc (let alone watch those things).

Considering this, not only older MGS do not offer the same flexibility as MGSV, but they also aged like milk. Besides the archaic, clunky ass controls, those fucking games never had great level design; they're mostly composed of narrow, flat, linear, 'blocky', short areas and even have backtracking. And don't get me started on MGS1, which introduces mechanics like footsteps, spot lights, etc. in the first couple of areas and are never used again. MGSV's level design wasn't any worse compared to the rest of the series.

And it just cracks me up when people accuse others of being "Kojima cultists" when they defend MGSV, when Kojima was at his most pretentious phase with MGS2, when he basically went post-modernist to subvert the fans' expectations or some shit. Seriously, the way I've seen people shill for that game is outright insufferable.

Also "muh Fukushima is the unsung hero of MGS" has become a forced meme at this point.

1=2=3, all wonderful in their own ways. 4 obviously was held down by a weak story but the ending was still damn good.

By ending i meant the final battle. I think everyone should've lowered their expectations plot-wise for MGSV regardless of how it could've turned out but besides that one aspect I've no complaints about the gameplay in any of the mgs games. The first three mgs games felt like they had a story that might've left some unfinished business but each game also tied things up well enough to not really need a sequel that decides to tie everything together like 4 attempted to do

I agree with you about TPP but fuck you MGS2 has great writing.
But yeah the other games are all set pieces glued together. The upside is they're fun set pieces, but still. I.E. MGS4 would have been one of my favorite games of all time if tracking was a regular mechanic instead of a one time thing where Raiden holds your hand the entire time.

I absolutely love Metal Gear Solid with a passion, while I enjoy nearly everything about it, the thing that's stuck with me all the years is the music and sound effects from the inventory sounds to the best is yet to come. Grey fox was cool as all hell and the codec calls were cosy.

Honestly Survive doesn't look horrendous. They're trying to deliver on two big requests from fans that MGSV didn't deliver on (survival elements and co-op), but they're just not doing it very well. The zombies really kill the game for me, personally. There is no fun playing against enemies that are literally retarded. The whole "you can build objects anywhere" thing also seems very stupid.
Also, Kojima shitting on it was pretty unprofessional, going all "i wouldn't put zombies in my serious espionage game" when the skulls are already practically zombies and it has psychics and ghosts and cyborgs and whatever the fuck vamp is.

You're this guy

They're more useful on The Boss, since you don't have much time to aim with the tranq gun. Just keep running up to her and spray her with some gas and punch her with the handkerchief.

Do you think someone should play through the series in chronological order or in release order, Holla Forums?

Always release order faggot.

...

Well there was a lot of shit cut from MGSV development so it'd fit on the PS3 and 360. Survive is basically going to be reused assets, plus the cut assets and a really watered down remainder of the plot from MGSV. Of course since Konami is over seeing it they're not going to break new ground or even keep any of the out there plot points in the original script.

Speedruns are just a meme for masochistic autists and gameplay is rarely designed around it.

This! The most any games do to accommodate autist running is timed point scores/leaderboards.

Thank you, faggot.

delet this

Make yourself less obvious Kojicuck:

HOW IN THE NAME OF FUCK CAN YOU POSSIBLY ENJOY METAL GEAR SOLID GAMES MADE AFTER THE PS1 ORIGINAL!?
VR Missions is also extremely enjoyable.

MGSV was a rushed game the devs didn't even want to make, the series was intended to end several games ago.
The game was purely born out of greed, you don't need to defend it.

user..

the PS1 game isn't fun

I said SOLID
SOLID

I REPLAY MGS EVERY YEAR ON THE YEAR AND I LOVE IT EVERY FUCKING TIME
If you unironically enjoy Metal Gear Solid 2 and/or The Twin Snakes, kill yourself.
If you unironically think 3, 4, or 5 are anywhere near the quality of the original Solid, kill yourself on cable television.
METAL GEAR SOLID WAS A MASTERPIECE AND NOT EVEN ITS OWN CREATOR COULD FOLLOW IT UP

The PS1 game is the original Metal Gear Solid. Are you retarded?

yes

Sorry user, it plays like shit.

The ONLY part of the game I don't enjoy are the goddamn "mash the button" torture scenes, they're not any kind of fun with or without turbo.
I'll give the forced Nikita bit and the Hind-D fight and following Rappelling segment to you for being not fun on the first playthrough, but once you know what you're doing they're enjoyable.

THE REASON THERE ARE NO MORE REPLIES IS BECAUSE I AM RIGHT

Yes, you are.

The writing in MGS was never good.
