After having trouble getting the emulator set up properly, I finally played through Snatcher. Setting, art, and music are great. Stumbling onto miss-able character interactions might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I found it fun. The plot is the same story as many ADV's and VN's: Starts strong and putters out by the end. Investigating the Snatcher menace and putting them out of their misery is excellent. Devoting the entire final chapter to neatly wrapping everything up is less so. The game is too short to go from body snatcher terminator replicants ruining society's shit to everything being fine and dandy with any sensible progression. I was prepared for this, being a Kojima game and all, but still got a chuckle when "Muh Nukes" got hastily thrown in as a plot point. Still, the character interactions are fun and the cyberpunk world is well realized, so I approve.

About the game. Besides the game looking worse than many PS2 games, yeah it's good. I've been playing it on and off for ages now but I'm still enjoying it. The combat is like a much better Fire Emblem and I believe the new Utawarerumono games have their combat based off this game. Instead of having a weapon triangle, you have elemental affinities that are tied to characters so a fire character has a hard time against a earth character. On certain turns, every character that matches the affinity of that turn will have all their stats buffed so you need to plan around that as well.

Story is also like a better Fire Emblem plot. The woman in the OP betrays the MC's father and causes their land to be overthrown by the empire. MC pretends to be a spineless retard for 7 years in the hopes that things will die down while the empire rules over their land. Of course, the empire being the empire, doubles down on being assholes and they decide to sacrifice the goddess of his religion who came down to their realm to see why her temples were being destroyed. Thins get more crazy from there.

I like the characters, music, gameplay, and story. The graphics could definitely be better but it's good enough for this type of game. I really recommend it.

Overall the art is lessened but I'm still enjoying the game.
