I'm not into fanfiction, but what is wrong with liking reading things written by hobbyist writers and writing things as a hobbyist? Is it just upsetting that it's using somebody else's characters?
I understand that the faggots who take the shit seriously are wastes of skin (especially the horrible shippers), but for the most part, people who read and write fanfiction just seem to be people who like fiction in general. Maybe I've just luckily never met a horrible fanfiction autist. At what point is fanfiction not allowed? Video games? Movies? Books? Is the book "Wicked" over the line, given that it's essentially fanfiction, or is that somehow a different category? What about fiction written about people who actually existed? The problem isn't "there are absolutely zero games right now that I want" it's that the larger trend goes towards dumbing down and casualization, and you will always see it doing damage to the more hardcore side rather than the other way around. Case in point, the new Monster Hunter which is being built from the ground up to appeal to people who don't like Monster Hunter by removing the need to be aware of your timing and positioning and overall just automates a lot of the things players needed to be constantly thinking about. There's tons of examples of beloved franchises getting torn down and losing what built their fanbases in the name of chasing down the normalfag because that's the bigger money target, hence why you'll also never see normalfag things like Madden or CoD or the like ever be good.

I could probably agree with this, with certain caveats. I just find it bizarre people lavish praise on Half Life and rant about Halo's adoption of recharging shields despite the fact Halo was mechanically a far more difficult game/series.
