It was decent for the time period. Unfortunately there wasn't really anything like it at the time. Going back and trying to play it today is a huge pain - the character movement is awkward as fuck, combat is clunky, traversing large spaces like the Citadel is a sleep-inducing task and the inventory management screen's previous job was ruling over the lower pits of hell. ME2 improved on some of this but sacrificed huge portions of the RPG experience. ME3 tried to fix that but was way shittier than either of the first two games. I don't need to say anything about Andromeda.
Sadly the series never really got the proper treatment it deserved.

Fuck if I know, user. I generally pay more attention to the feedback than the actual marketing. I haven't actually bought a game in a few years; don't have the money, and there's very little of anything coming out in really any field that interest me. All the movies coming out are uninspired trash or unnecessary sequelization, all of the big technology products are bloated garbage that was good 5-10 years ago and never really improved upon, I don't have cable and don't care, and the best games on the market are either free or old as fuck and therefore easy to pirate or available for a pittance on GOG or at a used electronics store.

The only game I have any interest in right now is Witchfire, but I won't hold my breath for it, and I probably still won't play it unless it's a gift since I'm so broke. CDPR's new Cyberpunk game looks interesting, but I haven't seen any gameplay, only random news pieces on it, so I don't have any interest in it yet, though that is likely to change as development continues. I've become so jaded and cynical about the market that I would rather experiment with cooking than play new games; at least I make better use of my fucking money that way. Anthem won’t bomb. It will likely be the most successful title BioWare has ever made. There is an enormous market for co-op shooters with loot and RPG elements, all done with high production values. There are millions of gamers who just play these games, often with their friends, and these games are the only games they play. That’s why, with few exceptions, nearly every game that comes out of this kind sells well and is supported for some time after launch, even if the games are ridiculously mediocre and aggressively boring and uninspired when played solo (like Ghost Recon Wildlands or the Borderlands titles).

Anthem will succeed because it is one of those that isn’t aggressively derivative or just an uninspired follow up sequel. Just the fact alone that you can fly around these big environments in jet packs with your friends in a game like this all but guarantees that Anthem sells over 10 million copies, even if there are a bunch of severe flaws in the game. I don’t like it, but that’s the way it is these days.

On the bright side, BioWare as we know it is effectively done for. There isn’t any future for EA letting BioWare do another single-player focused game after Andromeda bombing and Anthem likely doing quite well. They may have BioWare take one last crack at Dragon Age, but I doubt that will last if it happens because the money EA can make from a game like Anthem is too enticing to pass up, which is why they forced BioWare to go well outside their areas of “expertise” to make Anthem instead of another single-player story focused action-RPG.

I'd argue it could go either way, honestly. The loot box fiasco (which EA will try to re-implement in this game one way or another, mark my words) coupled with Andromeda bombing (even if it was because EA moved the main team to Anthem) will make even normalfags cautious. That being said, I do agree that Co-op games, especially ones with progression which you can easily play with your friends are usually heavily successful, but at the same time said games need to be extremely solid with communication between the devs and players. For this kind of game, I'd argue that even Borderlands prequel game and fell flat, and thanks to Bungie doing everything hilariously wrong, even a sequel titan of a game (Destiny 1 was pretty successful, good game or not notwithstanding) like Destiny 2 is down to about 20% of players. But it could also just be "The NEXT BIG GAME, PROMISE GOYIM" and people would just buy it up. At least the butthurt will be great.

ME1 is overrated. It introduced a great universe but the gameplay had so many design issues that I'm surprised anyone talks about it with reverence.

The three times I played through ME1, I always got the impression it was rushed. It just sort of ends. It could have been something special if it was at least 3 times the size, had plenty of optional side quests that took you on a tour of different planets, separate law systems for each faction that rules over a group of planets, options to join any of the government systems in the galaxy, instead of just the federation or whatever, have an underworld operating opposite the governments and give your character a reputation with all of them, have your character's reputation factor into the success of persuasion along with an actual set of persuasion skills that check for success with a dice roll based on a formula, have plenty of opportunities to betray one faction in favor of another, have a closing reaper invasion with the survival of the galaxy based on the strength of all galactic factions as dependent on you and your actions (or inaction). Choose not to be involved in politics and the factions will war and diplomacy on their own, with the faggot federation gradually dominating most. Or, be a harbinger of peace, bringing factions together in light of the coming catastrophe. Or sabotage the faggot federation from the inside, allowing outlaws and outside invaders to run rampant. Or take the head of the army and lead the gay federation to total conquest. Or go rogue, rob a number of treasuries, and flee the galaxy, leaving them to their doom. What will your story be in Actual RPG Not Shitty Mass Effect? Also, combat is turn based.

Quest for Glory was doing it in the early 90's, and while the choices you make amounted to fuck-all by the final game in the series, they did a hell of a lot better job of making your choices matter game-to-game.

That's why I never fell for the marketing in Mass Effect. Prior experience. Making any sort of meaningful and impactful decisions in earlier games gets prohibitively expensive and drains too many development resources to implement once you get past the first sequel. You're basically having to create dozens or hundreds of independent sequels simultaneously and stacked concurrently onto a single title. Basically, designing, directing, and programming an entire multiverse of alternate realities to account for all those changes. It won't be feasible until quantum game development where multiple teams in multiple realities can all just work on one version which will be compiled together and distributed across all realities.

after talking to Lori and Corey Cole during GG I could no longer appreciate that amazing game from my childhood knowing they where died in the wool hillary supporting SJWs.

Honestly, I'm not surprised they turned out being SJW cucks. The seeds of it were always in their games, and apparent in their interviews, but it didn't really detract from the games much - and it was hard to see exactly how much was genuinely their mindset and how much as just rub-off from being part of a small close-knit development community out in the backwoods of Oakhurst. The narrative today would probably be that Sierra was a really progressive company in the infancy of the PC game industry - but the truth of the matter is that Ken established the company in the middle of fucking nowhere tech-wise to save on his taxes, and they were forced to hire locally - which means a lot of family and friends got jobs there and were trained at home and on the job by their spouses/friends.

I kind of always expected this out of them, though not to the degree they've fallen. I'm far more disappointed in the fact that autists can put out a decent QFG clone and distribute it for free, meanwhile the Coles have been stuck in kikestarted development hell on what basically amounts to an RPG Maker game that looks absolutely devoid of anything even vaguely resembling fun, passion, or imagination. And the whole fucking time they string along their "loyal fans" and sell merchandise as if they ever actually intended to give them a product that lives up to franchise that got them those fans to begin with.

Glad to say, I never gave them a penny beyond Quest for Glory.
