Still playing Assetto Corsa daily. Nurburgring Sprint GT, porsche LM 2015, getting good at it, can compete against 100% aggressive AI porsche LM's. I tried Nissan GTR GT3 and its sluggish, having trouble against AI, too inconsistant.

Motorhead is a pretty nice game. Arcadish and with a futuristic theme, but you're still expected to exercise proper cornering techniques. The tracks are also challenging, and this is the only racer I've played where the reverse versions of tracks actually play significantly differently because of all the obstacles and dangerous turns. Also, the lighting effects and optional motion blur give the game a very moody feel.

I don't know if I just git gud and play at 100% or I can start by playing at 80%

Dirt 2 or 3 are super good. Dirt Rally is more hXc realistic. BeamNG is good if you like the crashing cars aspect.

All the Group B cars are basically point and shoot because of the ridiculous engines and power to weight in combination with their shitty chassis. Each of them are a lot of fucking fun, especially the 205 which can actually negotiate corners and brake.

It's ok, until you get into a police chase. Which happens when you run into a random box placed in the middle of the road and you can't turn it off like all the other garbage. Or you run over too many fences, or make contact with a police cruiser.
If you don't have a wheel, I don't think it's worth playing. It's also incredibly annoying Ubisoft can't do mirrors.

Linear random upgrades. There's also a perk system for +3% more boost and all that garbage. It has levels, but once you reach max, you grind for ingame currency to buy more cars and unlock more perks. You also unlock paints and decorative crap at random.

Performance parts are rewarded to you for doing stuff. There is visual customization that you just pay in-game money for.

Ye I use my g29 on a wooden desk that has a bevel and the clamps almost don't work on it. And desk-space is extremely limited. It's fakken worth it though to have a decent wheel. I don't know if I could ever go back to racing on a gamepad outside of super arcadey stuff.

Does it save automatically? I can't find it, if so. I can't do the next LUT steps because of that. All interesting, never heard of these tests.

I use mid-standard file, with 100 Gain, 23 Vol, 22 Tone, 32 FX. It's heavenly. Very informative front-end feel. Weight transfer and tire scrub are clear as day. A bit light on low-downforce cars though. I won't tell you specifically which community I'm in, but it's in the results if you google "Project cars steam group"

Open the LUT generator program and it should point you directly where the file was created at the end of the test.

It's an OK game, not as good as the original, but hey, it was free.

Basically, the game wants to put out 1:1 FFB, which would be perfect on a Direct Drive wheel, but the mechanics of lower-end wheels can't represent the forces 1:1. Doing this test tells the game how to compensate for how the wheel interprets force. I had to do this for BeamNG because the FFB was janky and clippy and clacky. Afterward it was perfect.

I'm going to keep this new setup, no clips yet, and the curbs actually can be felt. Its probably a 30hz bump vibrate frequency on curbs, that's nice. Min force was at 12%, now at 0% so that might have helped.

No problem! I don't think it's possible or necessary on PC2. There are some slight technical adjustments possible in Jack Spades files, but it's largely unnecessary. You might want to add some Volume to my settings if you like a heavier wheel, but give it a shot first as it is very informational in its own way.

I'm looking for sim racing games that are PLAYABLE with a gamepad. I tried Project Cars, Dirt Rally and iRacing and I couldn't find a good setting for gamepad no matter how much I looked in forums. Am I doomed? isn't there a simcade Gran Turismo style that isn't Forza no I'll never install W10? are arcade racers the only way?

I've played PCars2 and Rally on gamepad and found it acceptable. Have you tried the Grid games? I enjoyed the NFS Shift games as well but I haven't touched them on PC.

playing sim racers with a gamepad is possible but you need to commit a lot of time into getting a gamepad config that works for you and getting used the physics

To be fair, Rinpoku-pc has bucketloads of world records on PCars 2 with a gamepad.

Definitely, been playing F-Zero Climax on a GBA Micro and it's amazing. Master class and Battle are beating my face in as Rick Wheeler though, and I don't wanna go full casual with Lucy Liberty.

How is that game?

It's a fun little arcade racer, it has alot of variety in terms of tracks and every region has 4 stages, one super special, and one epic stage that's 15+Km.
Car variety is lacking since it's all modern, but the simplistic physics and stage variety make it a good game to play when you have a controller handy and want something that's gonna be demanding but accessible enough that plays well with a controller.

So now that I finally bought an NC Miata( worst miata), is it wrong to feel a bit more confident after playing sims for years, or should I feel confident going to driving school and trying my hand at autocross? I know this is technically not vidya, but /o/ is dead.

I haven't driven in any sanctioned events, but I do believe getting good at sims helps the understanding of the physics and mechanics of driving. There are a lot of things sims won't help you with, but I feel like knowing how everything interacts while driving can definitely translate to the real world. I want to get a Miata myself for getting into circuit racing. I don't even like Miata's, but I feel like it's a good place to start in NA.

Forgot to mention that Whiplash is coming up in two and a half weeks from now. I've had a few others throw around the concept of touge races using rFactor or something a few months from now.

I played in AC today online at the Daytona track, with the GTLM/GTD cars after the real one finished. Was fun and there were 4 or 5 on sometimes, just a practice lap time. I got around 1:47, very fun track. Unfortunate people don't play this game much or follow the IMSA championship. Atleast one server made it Daytona.

Well that, and the fact they decided to charge you for it, least from what I remember. The whole reason the original took off like it did was because it was free in an era when the only other racing games you could grab off the internet for nothing were cheap Chinese knockoffs of more popular titles especially Sega Rally that entertained you for about 5 minutes and abandonware from the 80s. Put a cost behind it and suddenly all you're playing is a mediocre sequel to what was and arguably still is a perfectly-executed modern-day adaptation of Slicks n' Slide.

Also unless there actually is an established mod community by this point, it's highly unlikely you'll ever see mods for it. Certainly not at the volume the original got. It came out at the right time and got shittons of free publicity for the best part of 2 - 3 years. This is effectively dead in the water before it ever launches and about the same level of irrelevancy as Insane 2.

Huh. The popularity thing seems about right, along with the fact that it's pretty good game for local multiplayer. As for GR2, I don't know if it's worth paying for yet. So far it doesn't look like a significant upgrade over 1, so why bother? They could add weather or scrolling/moving screen or nights… Or online multiplayer. So far GR1 is still looking good, mainly because graphics are so simple they don't look bad and the mechanics are still fun.

1.05 was great for the longest time, then following the crash/exodus someone managed to obtain the source code which was then relocated among the most senior members of the community, who turned it into the 1.1x versions with the 64 bit support and new track objects. They should have left it at that, any more developments and they would risk discontinuity with a lot of the older addon content. They should never have chosen to work on a hamfisted sequel that immediately failed to recapture the lightning in a bottle that the original was from the second it was revealed.
or hell, they should just release the sauce so we can have proper flip physics or "realistic" damage (i.e. the nose gets bent out of shape and the wheels fly off), because there really is nothing else to do with the game at this point other than updating real life locations and cars/racing series

By the way, does anyone else unironically believe that GT Sport in its current form is the best one in the series since GT4 at least? The only real disappointing factor at this moment in time is the car list, but let's be honest no-one wanted to keep driving the same 3000 polygon "standard" models after how badly they aged in the previous gen.

Sure you did. They could've optimized the models or took off half a year to enhance them like they did GT6, yet they kept them in a worse form than they were in the game they originated from; all interiors were blacked out regardless if whether or not they were previously modelled. No AA on any of the blocky textures either.
Personally I want the cars from the PS1 games to return. GT2000 should have been a PS2 launch title with everything from GT2 fully finished and enhanced. Would've sold like fucking hotcakes.

The point is they did a horrible job at it. They didn't do anything to the models except make them slightly worse. They omitted cars from 4 that would have been fun to drive in the later ones (Model T, Benz Motorwagon) in favor of 5 billion Japanese sports cars that outsiders love to rib on the series with.

Yes, but Forza's quantity is backed up with quality. Every model released in the past several years is Autovista quality, and even the few that aren't are still far better done than PD's offerings. Not to mention the sheer variation that T10 has provided from the start.

Also there's hardly anything kart-related at this point in time, didn't even know there was a kart in the game until I won one as part of the license tests.

It's great, easily the best racing game on the PS2. Wonderful car selection, second only to the TXR series. Physics were insanely good as well, you could turn anything into a real drift whore if you wanted, and the developers really took their time into making a true automatic transmission that relied on how much throttle you applied rather than a computer-aided manual, as is the case in every other game out there. Suspension roll was awesome too, you couldn't flip the car but the game made sure you feel like you could.

One of the most underrated titles out there, it's sacrilege the most viewed YT video of the game has less than 50,000 views.
