FE awakening

how do I get into FE:Awakening? I've had so many false starts, play it for about 8hours then stop and forget it for months, restart, rinse, repeat.

There's just too many characters in the game and I don't feel connected to any of them, I wish I just had a small group of 5-7 to keep track of, not dozens and dozens.

Also why did they opt to make the 2D sprites so utterly horrible looking?
The battles are kind of tedious, maps are too big.
As the story progresses it feels like I'm just watching a movie, I don't get engaged or feel in control, just like a bystander watching shit unfold….

I remember liking FFT, but the story was so much more interesting and I didn't have to manage 6 million NPCs that want to talk all the time and get married.

I know the game is "objectively" good, and I spent money on it, but I can't seem to get into it. Everyone raves about how great it is…but ehhh.
Any suggestions?

What the fuck is this supposed to mean? Regardless I felt the game was a step backwards from its predecessors in almost every way. The absolute biggest deal breaker was how they spawn enemies in ridiculous places which ruins any strategy to be had from unit placement by turning maps into annoying trial and error exercises. This game is one of my most regretted purchases of all time.

I wouldn't say the game is "objectively good". If you aren't feeling it, just don't play it. Awakening is vastly different from the last great FE title, which was Path of Radiance. I'd honestly rather go play that again than ever touch Awakening/Fates/SoV again.

Is this your fire fire emblem? If you aren't a fujoshi, you won't enjoy it. FE7 is a good entry point, it's a decent game with some nice and simple characters but what makes it so much better than awakening is the map design. Each level has its own victory conditions from defending a throne or target from massive waves of tough enemies, reclaiming a throne or building, reaching a target, killing all enemies, or eliminating the leader.

Fire Emblem awakening has all maps being a matter of "kill everyone." which doesn't lend itself well to game play and the level designs in general echo this same laziness.

Sounds like it's not for you.

Do what newbies usually do. Give up and use a walkthrough
Why kid ourselves? You're never going to progress without one, noob.

You don't need to keep track of all your characters, just the ones you use. Most maps in Awakening have between 12 to 14 deploy slots, so you only need to use that many characters, you can ignore the others, they're just there as options so you can make whatever type of party uou want. Also, Pair Up is extremely OP, so rather than having a party of 14 characters, you really want to have a party of 7 pairs (Which make it even simple since you'll just pair up the same characters every time).

...

Just find a core group of strong characters and grind levels until they are practically invincible. You can ignore the trash characters. Protip; the farm boy pothead is actually the strongest character in the game of you can level him.

Walkthroughs only work for RPGs and Adventure games, tbh.

I like to RP in alot of games because it provides challenge but in story games it's a little harder so I do little things like this. Gave my sister the 3Ds to keep her company when she moved out and she needed money so she sold it with my permission. I wonder how close I got to beating the game. I was at the ship battle.

pick 7 characters you like and stick with them, ignore the rest of the waifu shit
if you find the combat long or the map big pick horse riders
The game is easy. you can beat it with whoever you want.
there you go. Avoid the DLC with the exception of the Free one that comes after post-game

You were about halfway through. Honestly, everything after the introduction of the future kids is a downward slope.

It's shit, I wrote a copypasta on why it's shit but it's not currently on me. I'll post it in a little bit if the thread is still up, but just know that literally any fucking game in the series is better. GAIDEN is fucking better.

OP, Awakening is just a bad game with the only good thing being the soundtrack. If you want to play a FE game, then just play 7 (GBA) 9 (GC) or Echoes (3DS). Even if you're not a Fire Emblem fan, you'll quickly realize it's heavily unbalanced, promotes grinding, and has an awful story that doesn't know what it wants to be with bland characters. I don't say "promotes grinding" as if I'm bad at the game. I say this as the game is based around grinding due to the design of the game.

Pairing completely breaks the game. Fire Emblem is the type of game where strength matters more than numbers and pairing turns 2 decent characters into 1 powerful character. Or 2 strong characters into a walking spiked wall that enemies will throw themselves into until you win. There is no reason to not pair up unless you have a cleric.

Map design is complete trash as everything is just an open field because some bitch who hates everything FE got in charge in directing the game and hated good map design. Most of the tactics comes down to making a choke point and letting everyone run into you. The AI will always rush you even if the formation they have is actually better. This would make sense for the zombie like enemies but not for human soldiers.

All this game really did was give us some nice fanart. Just play Langrisser instead.

Ya I guess so.
I've started it 3 times, each time stopped at the 8hour mark. I guess I got 24hours of gameplay out of it, worth the money I suppose…sort of

Awakening is shit.
Second worst Fire Emblem next to Fates.
At best its only average for new players coming to FE and spoils them; not only that but it encourages mechanics usually atypical to the franchise like grinding with how it handles difficulty combined with its shitty map design.
Characters were okay once you delved into supports, but the level of reading needed to do so for each character is absurd and you can easily see where they got lazy. Earlier Fire Emblem games managed to do so much more with so much less.
If you're going to play a nu-FE game, play echoes so you're at least supporting the old fanbase and style of game you'd like to see come out from ISIS.
Play FE7, I'm on my 5th run of that game, now on a challenge run where I had a few retards pick my units (had them be rough and pick the worst in the game) on the highest difficulty setting. Its been… very rough, but fun overall. I've gotten over 200 hours out of it I think, which is pretty rare for single player games for me.

awakening is odd i mean i put like 300 hours into but like after a few self challenges most of the time i was spent min maxing faggotry. cause it literally was wipe the whole map or kill the leader the game.

that said is Echoes any good? fire emblem fates was decent but had translation issue like being very bad.

is echoes replaybility good? can i breed and fuck whoever? or is it strict and no min maxing stuff etc

No.
given that your taste is the inverse of anyone with a modicum of it, I'd say it probably wouldn't hold much attraction for you.
You'd probably like Fire Emblem heroes a lot, I think.
Its meant to take in addicts with surface-level shit and fanservice. I think the girls' clothes rip when they're injured, though the artwork is very good.
Plus its a gacha. I'm sure it'd be great for you.

but you can't breed on the phone

Excuse me OP, but what the fuck are you talking about? You must not have seen any FE threads around here. Or even on 4chan when the game came out.
Play FE8, babby's first Fire Emblem.

It's possible the game might not be for you.
t. autist who did 5 40 hour playthroughs.

You don't. Go play a better FE like the Radiance games, Blazing Sword or even fucking Sacred Stones if you really want your experience to be casual as possible. Awakening is patient zero for everything wrong with modern FE.

Just play Kamidori Alchemy Meister if you want a lewd game like FE where you can fuck girls. It's also a fun game too.

Which is why you simply get the CG sets and move on like with every gatcha game that relies on fap bait.

I've played that

Other similar tactical RPGs then?

Utawarerumono. The first game is on PC and R18. The games that come after are on Vita and PS4. Both, of course, not being adult games anymore but it's heavily implied that lewd things happen. Both games improve on the combat of the first game greatly because they took a lot of it from Tears to Tiara 2, which is another great game on the PS3. Looks worse than PS2 games but plays very well while also having a good story with nice characters.

Langrisser is similar to Fire Emblem but I've also heard it's better. Why? I can't say honestly since I have yet to play it myself so take it with a grain of salt.

There's also Disgaea. Despite the grinding meme you don't have to grind once to beat the main story. The games give you so many tools and customization that you have to be pretty bad to constantly resort to grinding to win in the main story. Great if you love customization and thinking outside the box to win. You can start on any game but Disgaea 4 and 5 are some of the best in the series. Make sure to buy used as the localization company is complete cancer.

Front Mission is pretty gritty and a mecha. Lots of customization and tools to take down your enemies. Front Mission 3 for the PS2 is supposedly the best in the series.

How are the PC ports of Disgaea? I know it's NISA so I'm clearly going to pirate, I'm just wondering if there is any fucking awful dialogue/character changes/censorship/bugs.
Etna was my introduction to DFC, so I figure it's about time to play the games she's from.

haven't played it but the anime that was sub a while back put me off from the series idk
haven't seen anything new from it also think the 3ds one looks pretty ass
played them all and every remake outside vita games and have pc disgaea 2
never got into wanted to just couldn't

disgaea is probably the only other game i played heavily outside of fire emblem

haven't had any problems with disgaea 2 heard the first one had problems but a mod patch fixes most of them

No clue if it's even the best port or not. Emulating the PSP version is the best way to go. Etna's story unfolds in the first game but she's also in Disgaea 2. She's in every other game but just as a cameo character.

The Utawarerumono anime leaves a ton of details and plot important things out to vastly compress the story. Also you can just skip to Mask of Deception as that doesn't require you to play the first game to get into the story. While some characters return, it's based off a new cast.

I've heard that many fans were disappointed in it. It's definitely an old series though so you won't find many recent games.

Which is your favorite Disgaea anyway? I liked 5 the most purely because of gameplay. I think 4 had the best cast though. I wish they would bring the mounting mechanic from D2 back as well. But I don't know if NIS even has

Awakening is decent as an entry point. Its map design is atrocious, but the core gameplay and the likeable cast are solid enough to keep you interested in a playthrough.
If you can't finish it, though, I'm gonna play Shadows of Valentia before new years and see if that's any better.

The reason i downloaded it on Freeshop was for Tharja, when do you get her?

There's a rope you find in chapter one
You can use it to hang yourself for bumping this thread and being actual cancer

which disgaea is the most pedo and why
i need a new game to play

all of them

All of them have a loli in the main cast. Though I wouldn't consider Flonne and Etna loli. Compared to Hanako in 2, Raspberyl in 3, Desco in 4, and Usalia in 5, Flonne and Etna are taller and act less childish.

Don't know why people enjoy Disgaea. Despite what DDF may claim, you really do need to grind in order to progress in the game. The lolis are not worth it. I'd rather play Bravely Default which, while it does have a grind2progress element, isn't nearly as much of a pain in the ass as Disgayuh

Brace yourself for disappointment. Echoes map design is just as bad as Awakening's Inigo's Gaiden chapter was ripped directly from Fire Emblem Gaiden, by the way.

Despite that I still found myself enjoying SoV. Hard Classic felt "just right" when it came to difficulty.

then let them "die" as they're supposed to

The context you state this makes zero sense, in order for a game to be "objectively" good it would have to minimum be considered good by many people. I barely hear anything about this game outside the odd waifu mention or porn so it's obviously not even meeting that criteria. "Average" would be the best description for it.

Flonne and Etna are lolis you retard.

oh dear

Gaddamn.

People saying Echoes is a good entry point need their heads checked. It's a good game because it's a decent remake of the controversial "different" entry in the series, back when Ninty went through its experimenting phase with Fire Emblem II and Zelda II, FE 7 and 9 are best to start with. FE8 if you are too casual. Even with Hard Classic, the only true way to feel good about beating Echoes is to not use Mila's Turnwheel at all. Post endgame go nuts and abuse everything, it'll feel so damn worth it.

I liked Awakening when it was supposed to be the final game in the series and letting that series die after the disgrace of Dawn of Radiance and the Kris debacle game aka FE3 remake. It would have been a bit controversial but it would be just that. The fact that the turbocunt behind it made another game that is the most vile abomination on earth for the series only topped by the gacha shit is something to behold. Now it's a corpse that drugged through the piss and shit of fujos and turbofaggot normals who can't into JRPG strategems

Awakening is fine for an entry point game. Reinforcements basically ruin half of the strategy of the game. The game also introduced a wait that pretty much single handedly brought back FE from the grave, for better or worse, mostly worse.

Of the three fates games, one is basically awakening with a worse story and characters, but better gameplay, one has an atrocious and embarrassingly bad story, but some of the best maps in the history of the series, and the last one is bad in literally every sense and is probably the worst fe game period.

SOV is… goodish. The characters are fantastic and the story is pretty decent. The maps are generally creatively bankrupt at best and horrifically gimmicky at worst, and the post game basically just surrounds you with enemies with absurdly inflated stats.

Its more that its the only good 3DS FE game

This is an accurate post; its funny that the biggest problems with Gaiden was that it was too faithful of a remake in that respect

If you can't get invested in it enough to finish it. Chances are the game is simply Not to your tastes and you should play something else, instead of trying to force yourself to play something you don't truly enjoy.

pick a waifu, play on easy
when you're done, play an actual good game

look me in the screen and tell me that's good level design

it's great that it was faithful to gaiden like a remake should be. thus, shitty and barren map design are in order.

You can have a good time if you think of it as a eugenics simulator. There's an older game in the series that did that better and more though.
