Nonhuman anatomy and navigation?

Any games out there where the playable character's anatomy isn't human or humanoid? Games that will also let you explore, walk around, and navigate 3d environments or 2d backgrounds as that very character?

I can't think of that many myself. The Okami games, Spyro games, partially in Twilight Princess, that dumb Goat Simulator, and that upcoming fighting game, Them's Fightin' Herds. That's about it.

And uhh

Natural Selection does this pretty well.

Snake pass was a refreshing game and a new one at that.

Thanks so far, guys. These all look like interesting games so far imo.

It was just a little strange for me to realize that after decades of video games and playable characters, so few devs branched from the norm of using the usual "humanlike" character model. I think that every once and a while, a character with nonhuman anatomy might be a interesting change of pace.
Also, I just remembered about those genesis Ecco the Dolphin games. And I guess that experimental Noby Noby Boy game as well.

Behold, the works of one who consorts with bessts.
I feel your pain, it's really interesting when you get to play as a nonhumanoid.

How about Deadly Creatures on the Wii, the cover always made me think it would be shovelware but I've heard that it's better than it looks?

Aliens versus Predator 1 & 2.

3 campaigns, each with its own playstyle.

Marine plays like a regular shooter with a horror element and tense moments.
Alien gets to scale walls, roof and vents. Asymmetric gameplay.
Predator plays like a tank, having to utilize your weapons for specific situations.

Octodad, Ecco the Dolphin and in a way every driving and fight game.

Spore, for all of its faults, has an incredibly detailed creature creator. I've managed to make very appealing humanoids and other times downright retarded animals with 12 limbs and 2 mouths. This is what your looking for if you want non humanoid protags. The game is trash, but I still like it.

When the hell is that fighting game coming out? It makes my peenus happy.

Who can say at this point anymore.
It's been over 4 years now and development is still very slow. I'm still surprised that they managed to get the talented Lauren Faust (MLP Friendship is Magic's creator) onboard to help with the character designs and art direction. And that they also managed to get the license to use the Skullgirls' fighting game engine. It has all the potential to be an amazing game, but the devs appear to be moving at a snail's pace.

FiM is going to be finished before it ever comes out.

The various Kirby games where he's always a ball.

Why are their eyes inside their mouths?

Octodad does this kinda, despite the entire point of the game largely being flailing around like a jackass breaking shit.

That game that jim sterling literally ejaculated on his face for. Disgusting pig

Doesn't hasbro own the mlp ip? How is this being made?

It has no relation to MLP other than looking similar. The game was originally a MLP game until Hasbro fucked it over, though. Lauren Faust heard about it and designed the main 6 characters. It's quite a nice story, and the game is indeed looking good, at the very least.

Really makes you wonder, seeing all the footage, I thought it was already finished. How much is left?

Where is the porn?

Well there has to be more than characters than the ones shown. Seems like a small roster.

Its a free game though.

As far as I'm aware, the original rooster consisted on 5 characters, and last time I checked there was only one left, so I don't really know what's going on.

Pac-Man

Seeing how sluggish the development is i can say it would be released somewhere at 2020 and by that time FiM would be long dead since it only has 2 seasons left. Thank God.

Like that matters. Everybody stopped caring about the show in like 2014, and that is nearing 4 years ago.

Its the perspective of a guy eaten alive

they made an announcement

But Dragon Ball FighterZ release date is on February 2nd, I hope M6 is going to change the date again, the game is almost done except for the animation holes, placeholders and the future DLC character (a goat), 90% of the actual gameplay stuff is confirmed to be final

I was going make a thread about that game but everybody gets mad every time the game is posted, for some reason everyone in ((((the chan atmosphere)))) hates the game, that's why the game gets zero following here

Just to shill the game a bit more, if you are interested in more gameplay you can check the Fightin' FÅ“natics channel on jewtube and Twich, they make weekly streams

youtube.com/watch?v=EWBEA_A2Ijo
youtube.com/watch?v=fRzKF6aHGCQ

probably on e621

I doubt they are aiming for a serious Fightan scene or something of the sort. At this point, I'm sure they they just want to be done with it.
>for some reason everyone in ((((the chan atmosphere)))) hates the game
I've never seen that besides the "MLP IS SHIT!" shitposter, if something, the game looks good regardless of origins, I also can see people hating it for using the Skullgirls engine. As for not getting following, is MLP, so you'd obviously see people going at it even though the game have little relation to it at this point.

If you're actually interested with people reaction on the game, try posting about it in the fighting games general.

Honestly, make a thread about it after Christmas when the board is less populated by misanthropes who don't spend time with their families. I would like to get the opinions of people outside the FGC.

The people in that general are already as informed as they're going to be. The prevailing opinion is "it looks cool; I'll buy it if it's good" and the relatively minor gameplay adjustments made recently aren't enough to provoke much discussion.

There the Mega Drive/Genesis game The Ooze where you control a scientist who has been turned into a puddle of ooze.

WiiWare title Fluidity/Hydroventure and it's 3DS sequel Fluidity/Hydroventure: Spin Cycle have you controlling a puddle of water that can change it phase to ice or gas. While the first game it's just a generic bunch of water your controlling, the sequel actually make it's a water spirit named Eddy.

Geist for GCN was a FPS that has you playing as a ghost and go around possessing inanimate objects (keypads, gun turrets, explosive crates, dog food bowls), animals (dogs, mice, bats) and human soldiers. To access a something "live" you have to scare it first, so usually posses an inanimate object than live object, Eg: possess dog food bowl, make food fly out at dog to scare it, possess dog, get to next area of base.

I'm talking about the following here, but that's reasonable for an indie game still on development made by literally who's
Most of the pony fandom is not interested on the game because it's technically is not pony but the game has its own niche audience

the game is also banned on halfchan, and no one on /mlp/ is interested /pone/ could be interested but the board is dead

so they can taste you before they decide to eat you. it makes them hungrier, driving them further into a hunter mind set.

i dont know

Why is the damage so fucking small?
Why do you have to do MAHVEL combos to do 30%?

Sure thing, but the game itself have no relation with MLP, which is why people who likes MLP is not that interested on it, even when Lauren Faust designed the characters. Personally, I really want to play it.

Pretty sure they wanted to go with super combos ala Skullgirls.

They aren't, its just the camera. I don't think they have a bullshit justification for it in the lore, they just did it to save the gameplay from being a pain like how you don't turn upside down when walking on walls. Alien Versus Predator didn't do this and playing it makes me want to kill myself.

Am I the only one who absolutely despises Fighting games all about combos and shit dexterity?

I'm all for PvE brawler games or Super Smash. But I'm sick of tiring up my fingers having to memorize combos and become an ADHD maniac that knows when to block, throw, skip animation frames and memorize low, medium, high attacks and blocks.

I think this game would have been much more enjoyable as a brawler.

Skullgirls engine and the tastes of the devs being like that. Zoning is better than I thought it'd be because projectiles deal significant damage, so that's something.

While I personally dislike long combos, I'm not too offended by Them's Fightin Herds's system because most of the combos are very basic, just fast. I'm worried it'll be too shallow, actually, since most of the combos are ABC > Launcher > ABC > special move juggler/ground launcher > ABC > special move > super.

Well, at least you're honest about being shit at fighting games.
When you aren't inputting a motion.
When your opponent is blocking because you've conditioned him to forget about throws.
I really don't know what you mean here. Are you talking about special cancelling? In most games, it's just another step in going "up the chain" from light > medium > heavy > special.
The vast majority of 2D fighting games have most attacks be mids and lows, and overheads/highs slow enough to be reacted to or short enough they don't lead to combos. Perhaps if you got gud you might not have such trouble with it.

If you like spacing, then you can always play Samurai Shodown (2 or 5:Special) or Soul Calibur (2, personally). Yatagarasu is a more recent game with an emphasis on pokes and neutral.

It would have been a different project, and likely not had as much success with crowdfunding. People wanted a pony fighting game like the one which Hasbro C&D'd and nothing else would suffice. I'll wait until I get my hands on it.

Yes.

Dog's Life was on the PS2, I was going to suggest Rain Word but the SlugCat is pretty human like

Velvet's damage is shit but >>14030712
Na, the gameplay designers are HUGE fans of Melty Blood and UNIEL, the game is basically those 2 games but with cute animals

The new Fighting Game General thread is up. Maybe now's your chance to go ask them their thoughts on this game. Granted, it might be a fruitless endeavor in all honesty. It is a small indie title compared to the bigger fighting games after all. A small roster of just six/seven fighters and smaller damage output just isn't everyone's cup of tea. Least of all, the MLP-inspired art style which may have some anons up in arms.
While I am interested in seeing the devs pull through and making this game succeed, I also do have a "wait and see" attitude about it. If this game does come out sometime in February 2018 as you say, let us hope it was worth the wait.

This will sound pretty autistic but I'm really shy online, I don't like to post about things that other people may not like, I only posted about TFH here because the game was already mentioned here

They're very easy to memorize, especially if they have a juggling mechanic because you use light attacks to keep them afloat and strong attacks to conclude.

You mean like this?

Is this LocoRoco?

You call that shit skill? Because it's equivalent to APM in gookclick RTS.

there is an indie game where you protect your offspring as an animal (hedgehog I think)

Shelter. You play as a badger.
There was also a sequel where you play as a bobcat or something, but nobody gave a shit about that one.

in most racing games you play as a car

space marine detected

Trucks are not technically human

Quite a few of the AvP games let you play as well the Alien obviously.

I played this game more than I'd like to admit.

...

Horsefuckers have come a long way

The game is X because of the engine
You have no idea how game engines work, Guilty Gear Xrd, Gears of War and Rocket League share the same engine, Unreal Engine 3

Dragon Ball FighterZ, LawBreakers, Street Fighter V, Ace Combat 7 and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds were made on Unreal Engine 4

It's okay to like Spore unironically. You don't have to say it's shit just because vee hates it with an incredible autistic passion

so you are pretending to be retarded?

You haven't even made an argument. Explain your reasoning.

In Monster Hunter XX Monster Hunter Generations you get to play as a cat.

In many puzzle games you get to play as either an omniscient and formless god or an abstract geometric shape.

some Humongous Entertainmnet SCUMM games had you play as a fish or a car
since it's a point and click that didn't matter as much though
